Thank you. The errors were alcohol induced. I am a light weight and needed to chug a beer before singing for the first time in public. lol

I can understand that, I only sing in front of life long friends but it's my aim to go to folk nights and play / sing, so I have to man up to it.

I started working on bar-chords this week (having avoided them thus far), actually they are easier than previous experience. Part because my finger strength / dexterity has improved, part because I thought about the mechanics of barring and part because I recently bought a second hand Martin, which is so perfectly set up bars are easily made :)

Bar chords are a must, you can cheat by using X5 at first. Essentially the power chords.

By X5 I just mean any chord, Ab5, A5, Bb5, etc. X is just a mystery.... like algebraic equations. lol A X5 chord just uses the fifth of a note, so D5 is just DAD. E5 is EBE... etc.

That song would be easy. Check out Jack Johnson, he uses a lot of standard position and bar chords.

I play a few local gigs with my brother and a drummer/partner.
We all have day jobs and regular lives, but music has become an increasingly-important part of our lives.

One of my favorite endeavors is to play a nearby old folks home.
I'll go in with my Takamine electric/acoustic, Crate Telluride amp, mic and mic stand, and a ukulele, and I will sing to the oldsters.

They love spirituals and really old oldies, but they always enjoy whatever it is that I play for them.

It's just about once a month that I volunteer this way, and it is very rewarding.
I recommend it to anybody who is a musician and singer.
I can't begin to tell you how much it will enrich your life, and how much it will bring joy to some really wonderful seniors.

Just google 'retirement homes' and/or 'assisted living' on your computer, pick up the phone, and call the home's event coordinator.
They will LOVE to have you, and will generally let you come in any time that is convenient to your schedule.

I play a bit of guitar and bass, but haven't done it in any kind of a 'serious' way really for years (so I'm a bit out of practise these days, not that I was ever that great!). I've also been known to sing a bit (used to sing and play bass in a blues rock/metal band, and have done alot of amateur operatic stuff over the years), and do have a drum kit (bought a couple of years ago) which I'm really not very good at playing at all (although I can keep a decent rhythm going).

I don't have many recordings of me playing the guitar at all, but I did start playing around a little with a 4 track when I was in college (20 odd years ago now - before the days of readily available computer recording kit!). Never had the time to get further and do any proper recordings really (and don't have copies of the less rough recordings that I did do now, unfortunately), but this was a very rough audio recording of an instrumental thing I put together and recorded (me on guitar, bass and keyboards, accompanied by a really crappy drum machine) just while I was messing about with the equipment:

And here's a similarly rough (mistakes and all, and a particularly rough lead guitar track that I'm sure I re-recorded better, but don't have the improved version anymore!) audio track of a metal song I wrote (with me singing too) from the same sessions - it all seems so long ago now!

I am a Heavy Metal rhythm guitarist. Been playing since 1987. Studied Classical and Blues as they are the foundation for all Metal. I love to use the Pentatonic Scale for a good Hard Rock feeling, and the Minor mode for a more dramatic melodic feel. Been known to use Drop D and Drop C tuning as well as open G for some good old Delta Slide.

My guitar is an Ibanez Gig and my amp is a Line 6 Spider IV 15.

I like the 2nd song, reminds me of old school Hardcore Punk Rock! Although the tapping parts is more reminiscent of Metal.

You are a brave man, I have a vid of me playing but I don't think I would post it here. I am not the most popular person on the forum and there are a lot of crazies here.

I currently have the Line 6 Spider IV 75. Great versatile amp for playing in the house (which is what I do these days), but I'm not sure the effects would stand gigging with it. I bought one last year to replace my battered old Laney Linebacker (and to save me messing about with old and battered effects pedals), which I bought second hand a few years ago as something to replace (for the purposes of playing in the house) my 'proper' amp (which is a 1970's Japanese 100w Mesaboogie-rip-off valve combo, which sounds fantastic, but which is sadly in a very dead condition!). If I were to start gigging again, I'd get the old valve amp fixed, but that's going to be a major job. I also now have an Ibanez guitar (RG370) and Ibanez bass (SR300) that I use most of the time - my guitar choice is severely limited by being a lefty, and they are one of the few manufacturers that make at least a few lefties as standard!

Thats kool man. I have never had the pleasure, but from what I hear Meseboggie is one of the best amps out there. You are a lefty eh? Kool, but ya that would limit selection of guitars. I love to watch old Jimmy Hendrix vids with his backwards strung guitar.

I got to tell you I love the Line 6 Spider IV. Before I was using an underpowered Ibanez amp and a Boss Metal Core stomp box. It had insane distortion that could get a bit unruly without a Noise Gate... although that was part of the fun. But the Spider IV is just incredible, even the low line 15 watt model. I love the Crunch amp model, as it replicated a tube amp amazingly well. It is so responsive to my pick attack that I can very precisely adjust the volume and distortion level by pick attack alone. But the Insane amp model is where it is at for me. Distortion all the way up, with just a slight delay to thicken up the sound, and I am in Heavy Metal heaven! The Noise Gate makes the high distortion level very easy to control... almost feels like I am cheating.

I don't play a whole lot anymore, but am living in a new city and am hoping to find some people to jam with.

annnnnnndddd my "producer" (sounds so formal) released the music for his solo project (he does everything himself) 8-Bit Harakiri:

Sorry Your Princess is in Another Castle
http://youtu.be/x5bXmSGQk6c

The lyrics are spot on. Released on Valentines Day, very fitting.

I've been playing guitar for about 5 years now, more dabbling than anything else, a fair bit of songwriting and a somewhat decent half-original repertoire. Once the weather turns nice again (probably very soon) I'm going to be hitting the streets of Munich and playing street music. I do mostly folksy acoustic stuff (due to lack of good equipment and a band), but my real heart is metal:

That's me up front with the beard, playing my school's graduation. ^^ Skip to 40 for the music, or watch the intro if you know german. I think I nailed it (the intro that is, the song had a few glaring mistakes). :D

I double-dare you to whip out "(*)(*)(*)(*) Her Gently" by Tenacious D. :p

After growing up as a guitar player in bands in the 1960's I basically put playing behind me for many years. I have, over the last decade, resumed some interest. Always looking for a "special sound" I eventually settled for learning and playing the theremin that provides almost unlimited latitude in sound creation. Combined with modern digital sound technology the possibilities are endless.
