Hi. I'm from the desert southwest. I consider myself a constitutional conservative. ..looking forward to getting involved in some discussions. scotty
Its interesting that you say "American". Does that mean that you recognize this as an international forum? Wilkom, Bienvenue, Welcome...by the way.... I have never been to the Southwest. I hear that Arizona is very beautiful.
I do recognize that the us is not the center of the world, & that is why i described myself in that way. Thanks to all for the warm welcome. Soon I will post a synopsis of my views & hopefully some of my better arguments!
Ladies and gentlemen we may have one of that very rare species: an intelligent conservative. We have been waiting!
Now wait just a minute.. i never said i was intelligent.. "Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains." Winston Churchill A conservative is a man who sits and thinks, mostly sits. Woodrow Wilson
Judging from your post and the lovely signatures we also have another rare species: a self-deprecating American. Now I thought the age Churchill cited in that quote was 40. Are you by any chance between 30 and 40 and don't want anyone to think you are a lily livered liberal?
I never heard the quote at 40.. i'll have to research that a bit. I need my quotes to be accurate! But no, i am unfortunately both over 40 & unconcerned about how others view me. Fiscally, i am constitutional & conservative. On social issues, i tend toward libertarian.. as vague as that is. In time my views will become frustratingly clear, if i can find the time to wade through a lot of the posts here.. lots of arguments & name calling, it seems.. a lot of personal quibbling & not much discussion of issues. But i am not new to forums, & know the drill. I'm sure i will find a niche. Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain Reading furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge; it is thinking that makes what we read ours. John Locke "The conventional view serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking." J. K. Galbraith
There is something not right. A US conservative quoting Galbraith, a Keynesian economist, is not a common phenomenon on here. I will be interested to see if you continue to identify yourself as a conservative by the standards of this board. Being a supporter of a free market, democracy and the rule of law does not stop you being called a communist on here. If we ever clash, exchanging barbed comments where the mutual respect is lost (you know the way this happens on forums), please remind me that it didn't start out that way and that we are both probably capable of constructive civilized discourse.
Yeah buddy! You and I shall get along fine. Oh - and if you watch me, I'll show you some of the finer points on how to make a complete ass of yourself - but in a quasi-intelligent manner. .
