No. They'll do what all successful companies do when their profit margins are lessened. They'll sell their products at a loss.

    OK. That was sarcasm.

What facts? 42 billion in profits is enough money if you can't manage to run your company and invest without corporate welfare well.....Maybe they shouldn't be i business or they need a serious shakeup of personnel.

So going from say 42 billion in profits to say 36 billion is operating at a loss? Thats aburd.

Exactly. Supply and demand effects gas prices. Not taxes. They might try to raise prices. But they might find that if gas prices are too high people stop using gas. I started taking the bus to school the minute gas hit 4 dollars.

What is absurd is suggesting that if you take away tax breaks or raise taxes on a company that they won't forward these costs onto all of us consumers.

    This is correct...

Folks....what would bring the cost of oil down is A...get out of the mid east and stop meddling in all their affairs and B...stop devaluing the currency it is priced in....

    Problem solved.

And there is a case for allowing tax breaks for new tech industry. Just not for an industry which is over 100 years old and has the worlds more profitable companies.

Talk about woods and trees buddy!

Not if you keep on buying really expensive bombs to drop in the desert. No.

Again, the ignorance of foreigners is on display.

I agree that bombs cost money.

But even with the wars the defense budget is less than 20% of the federal budget.

So national defense can only be blamed for 20% of the Obama deficit.

While the War budget it way to high it is hardly the only reason we run trillion dollar deficits....

Y'know, if I were some evil Chinese Communist I couldn't boot up my AUTOCAD and design a more boneheaded US president.

Who do you suppose is gonna pay those additional taxes? It'll be the guy at the pump.

Montoya is aghast that a company makes $42 bill in profit. Better that than making a huge loss and getting the GM treatment. How many gallons of fuel and chemicals do you suppose they sold to make that profit?

A company does an enormous job and dares to make a big profit on it. what is wrong with that?

On a gallon of gasoline, government makes five times as much revenue as do the oil companies. Why don't we cut those taxes?

That's way too sensible for many of the libs around here to understand.

And most of the $4 billion goes to small land owners where the oil is located not the oil companies themselves.

I tell you what, you take a 20% cut in pay and let me know what you think about it.

Could the tax breaks for the 1% and oil companies also add to that?

Clueless. The tax breaks, if ended, would be added back into the price per gallon making prices go up. Simple math.

When you look at state and federal taxes on gas they make much more than oil companies. Is that too much?

I am willing to cut the US defense budget 20% as long as we trim the rest of the federal budget 20% also.

We should cut every corner of the US federal budget until it is balanced again.

Cutting 20% off everything, while being easy for people like you to understand, would not be the smartest path forward. Sure the maths would be easy, but the results not that good.

Obama voted for tax breaks for them back in 2005.

The problem is these tax deductions they can take will only produce about 21 Billion over 10 years.
