Our healthcare is mostly on base with military doctors who don't have the same costs as civilian doctors. The price has only really gotten more since we have been at war for over 10 years. Man, those selfish military folks always wanting new limbs they lost during fighting for the politicians and their business partners.

Guess that whole line about never treating returning war vets like they did during Vietnam was just bull(*)(*)(*)(*).

Obama should start by cutting benefits for one-term politicians (or <20-year politicians who serve their own interests than those of their constituents) who get full-benefits than those who served for 20+ years in the service of their country.

I keep noticing that when times get tough Obama goes after the troops but is unwilling to go after the pork bellied political bodies.

Their 'social contract', always touted as the reason for big government, only applies to the little folk. Government itself has no responsibilities for living up to their part.

If they had said they were going to apply the same cuts to all federal employees and politicians, then we would have a budget cutting reform. Instead they targeted one bit of government, the bit that oddly enough, is not a big democrat voting block or big contributor to democrat candidates.

The public service unions are not asked to take any hits at all....

I spent a lot of time getting folk who were lied to OUT of the service in the 70's as we went from a military of dregs and druggies to the professional one we have today.

I sat through scores of reenlistment efforts over the years and heard the government promise free health care for life as a benefit of an underpaid career. That they now lie about ever making the promise is not relevant.

It is one thing to change a promise, but to target one group of employees (the military) and then lie about the promise being broken....

 

do you really think that, up until now, non-military government workers have NOT had routine increases in their health insurance premiums?

 

Apples/oranges....government workers have vastly better working conditions and compensation than the military. They do not work under a promise that the government can change at any time, as they do.

 

I don't recall being PROMISED free healthcare for life when I raised my hand in 1968. I recall being promised free healthcare while I wore the uniform. I realize that you are a retiree as well, and I am sorry that you are disappointed with TRICARE. I love it and think that it is a fabulous benefit and, I do not mind one little bit having to pay a little bit to keep enjoying that benefit.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
