Did you just "forget" that statement originated with Obama as a rationalization of inflexibility in negotiating with Congress, and that when nonleft say it now, they are mocking/backlashing Obama's statement? To the topic, hilarious blast from the past, "prescient" Pelosi early on at 15 seconds in and again at 2:58 But maybe her crystal ball is shinier this time
Tell us about that again on November 8th. Trump has already been slandered. But it's like the attorney who's abused wife left him to sleep with you, so he charges you with kidnapping.... Nobody believes him. The Articles might as well have be stamped with a bright red "BS" label. The real residual effect here will be that the president was slandered by the dems, that they abandoned honor and abused their office and justice to try and destroy him. He will be the hero; the dems will be the villian- and history will record it that way. If you could look inside Pelosi's mind today, it's logic and path of reasoning would be similar to watching a ping-pong ball in a paint shaker. She was once an astute politician who knew how to play the game. Now- nothing makes any sense in her mind, and everything will be different a second from now. She's lost it; sucked into the black hole that has evolved out of the hate the left, the liberals, the progressives and the socialists have saturated themselves in. It continues to destroy them- and it's not Trump, not the right..... they are doing it to themselves.
House, but not the Senate. So why does Nancy believe she has the authority to makes demands of the Senate? I'll go with 'dementia' as the correct answer.
A president cannot be criminally charged while president. Clinton's obstruction of justice charged stemmed from actual obstruction of justice as defined by the statute. In Trump's case his charge of obstruction does not comport to the statute, and obstruction of congress is not anywhere part of obstruction of justice and is not even illegal per se.
I don't get the 'Trump will always be impeached, it will forever stain him, MWAHAH'. Seriously, who cares? Like with most things, it seems to make Trump stronger.
Trump could only hope to be "forever stained" the way Bill Clinton was. Bill and Hill went on to make $240 million after the "shame and tinge" of his impeachment. This impeachment is a nothing burger. Pelosi has just gone insane. Now that's a stain.
It means nothing. Imagine being the first impeached President to win a second term, now that would be something special.
Any who think this *impeachment reflects badly on President Trump is missing the forest for the trees. It makes Democrats seem worse than vindictive, children.
Not indicting a sitting president is a DoJ "policy," based on opinions. It has never been tested in the Courts. I disagree with the policy. If the President shot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue, in my opinion, he should be arrested and prosecuted under criminal law. Congress has the prerogative regarding whether or not to impeach and convict him on impeachment to remove him from office, or allow him to remain President while being prosecuted. By the same token, removal from office on the basis of conviction on impeachment charges is a political process which doesn't need a criminal violation to be pursued. High crimes and misdemeanors are political crimes against the state, which in turn represents the sovereignty of the people. It MAY consist of actual criminal violations, or may not. A "high crime and misdemeanor" may be whatever a simple majority of the House votes it to be. The Senate then "judges" the House's impeachment and either agrees (with a 2/3rds vote necessary for removal) or fails to convict, with the President remaining in office.
You certainly have a right to your opinion and that is fine with me. But no court will overturn the DOJ legal opinion -- which is not the same as a policy -- that a sitting president cannot be criminally prosecuted for anything. If he could it would end the constitutional republic. The concern is not some clearly egregious crime like murder in a public setting but it is that the 92 US Attorneys ( and hundreds of other prosecutors) could prosecute him every day of the year for whatever they dreamed up. You are off a little in describing the impeachment process. Any rudimentary understanding of the Constitution from understanding what high crimes and misdemeanors means and reading the debate notes, etc will clearly show that the House cannot constitutionally impeach a president for any reason they dream up (though you are correct that an actual crime is not necessary). This is why the current impeachment is unconstitutional. The problem is of course that impeachment relies on virtue and absent that there is nothing that anyone can do to stop an unconstitutional impeachment. SCOTUS might rule against it though that is very highly unlikely, plus, if they did, who is going to force compliance with the ruling. It is also unclear what happens if a president is impeached and removed from office but doesn't leave. Would the executive branch including DOD continue to take the president's directives or would they follow the VP?
It should be noted however that the Articles drawn up against Nixon included what amounted to obstruction of congress. So Trump is not the first to be impeached for something that is non-impeachable. Though Trump is the first to be impeached for nothing at all other than winning an election.
Impeachment is one way miz Pelosi, what's the other, an assassination? By who the FBI, the CIA, or the Clintons? the only thing people will remember about your phony impeachment is your phony impeachment.
the 'standout' statement was "we haven't picked our nominee, who ever she may be"... speaks volumes of that party...
ah ummmmm... nope... there's no impeachment... being 'charged' is not being guilty... when's the trial...
Let's get to reality here. Trump stands impeached, the trial will, or should, be an examination of the charges. Additional witnesses, especially first hand witnesses like John Bolton should be called and challenged. Trump's, like Clinton's most notable historic event is that they have been impeached. This is their legacy. Did Trump commit a crime, absolutely. Contempt of Congress can get one sent to jail. Abuse of power is an all encompassing charge that invites additional witnesses. The Mueller Report alone provides a rich harvest of illegal actions by Trump.
