From what I understand, Mike Pence’s political career was finished in Indiana. Trump picked him up from the political dust bin and made him the second man on the ticket. Perhaps Trump figured that a compliant Pence would not steal any of “The Donald’” limelight. When Trump asked him to exercise an obscure aspect of the constitutional elective process, Pence got the nerve to say, “No,” and ended the relationship.

I have never viewed Pence as a viable presidential candidate. He comes off as a nice guy who would sit the While House, petting his gold retriever and looking presidential in the passive 19th century sort of way.
