    Diplomacy is most always done behind closed doors. There are exceptions, but if it's serious, it should be private.

    Historians will eventually get their mitts on it, but by then, they're the only ones that'll care.

    Americans don't care whether we are in a recession or not, only economists care and of course politicians. Americans only care how much more they are spending.

    As I said the WH has talked about the conversation so now let's see the transcript. What is Biden hiding? He talks tough when it comes to Putin. Where's his tough talk when it comes to Xi?

    Do you think Trump would have been closed mouth about Xi's threats? Why is Biden so closed mouth when it comes to Xi but not Putin? Care to answer a few questions instead of trying to change the subject?

    A. China is not going to do that, not in the least. That would essentially be an act of war and the CCP is not that stupid.
    B. We are not sure if Pelosi is going to Taiwan or not. We do know she is going to 4 SE Asian countries. My guess, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and one of the following, The Phillippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, or Taiwan. She could even meet the Taiwanese ambassador to Singapore is she wanted to.
    C. China has always gotten upset from the times of Reagan, when we sold defensive equipment to Taiwan, like Knox class destroyers, or even try to do some trade deals. They want the One China, Two System policy back in place, view Taiwan as a "renegade province," and has been consistent with this for over six decades now. Sometimes an administration would back off and sometimes not.

    Because public silence is the best answer. That does not mean the back door channels, away from prying eyes, the media, etc, are at work here. If Pelosi goes to Taiwan, China will complain and possibly put economic sanctions on Pelosi and others. But that is it. If Pelosi does go, is it to help with the Trans-Pacific Partnership, or to give more military aid and equipment to Taiwan? Or is it some fact finding mission

    She will go to Taiwan because now she has to. We cannot be seen to be taking orders from China. <Mod Edit>
    China acts is if they don't care about losing their biggest customer. Guess what? They don't care. They are not entirely comfortable with the consumerism in their population. Pretty soon the population may get all uppity and start demanding freedom. They seek refuge in the security of the Han dynasty reminiscent China BC.
    If you wonder who runs America, look at that where nearly everything you own is made. We demand stuff so cheap we will sell our country down the river to get it.

    Xi may not be comfortable, but I can guarantee you the average Chinese citizen loves consumerism, the choices, and the opportunities to make money. Chinese people are extremely materialistic, generally, In addition, most of the CCP leaders, especially in the lower ranks in the provinces and cities love this. Just a few in the upper CCP with Xi and his cohorts may not. China needs us just as much as we need China, expeically in trade.

    The issue with Taiwan has to do with the one china, two policy doctrine. I think Xi is using this more to try to gain leverage with the upcoming Trans-Pacific Agreement that the US has recently been pushing, or maybe some other policies that Xi has been eying on.

    You may want to go back to when Hu Juntao was the Premier of China. He still did this type of stuff when Obama and Congress were offering to sell military equipment to Taiwan.

    Pelosi meets with foreign leaders routinely, it's part of her job.

    So it's hardly surprising that, with the chips act, she would want to see what they thought about it. What's surprising is Xi's freakout.

    So...unless you think a president has to be psychic, this has not a thing to do with competence.

    And unless you have something substantive, please don't babble.

    If Nancy wants to visit Taiwan, I am 100% sure she's going since the Chinese made it a Red Line. It would be dumb for global future, to not cross it.

    Remember the good ole days when Democrats were notifying our enemies that Trump was a threat to them (China) and advised them we would warn them in Trump did anything? Xi's rhetoric was vastly more docile under the prior administration, yet have grown a fairly large pair with this current administration. Strange, isn't it? How we just gloss over treason on the other side of the isle!
