Propagandist warns China could down Nancy Pelosi’s plane during Taiwan trip

First, Pelosi is no diplomat. Her job is to be Speaker of the House and there has not been a high level US mission to Taiwan since 1979.

Secondly, Australia's former prime minister Paul Keating labelled a visit to Taiwan by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as “unprecedented, foolish and dangerous” (1)

Any US administration that couldn't predict China's extreme hostility to a US mission to Taiwan with a US fighter escort by such a high ranking politician as Pelosi is grossly incompetent.

When it comes to China, or even Israel or any other nation, it really depends on the nation itself. With most nations, yes, we will do the public statements condemning said actions of that country, but most of the work to resolve our differences is done behind the scenes. You may want to look at Jon Huntsman Jr who was both ambassadors to China under Obama and to Russia under Trump. In 2017, he even described what it was like talking to young Chinese people and some of the work he has done. With China specifically, I can assure you that is the case here. No need to add gasoline to the fire in tensions that are high between the two countries. That is being prudent and pragmatic, not a hot head. And yes, Americans do not like hot heads, generally, except the five-year-olds.

Since you haven't noticed, our relationship with China has taken a turn for the worse. Ever hear of a guy named Trump?

That may have been what is called a "trial balloon". FDR did it a lot. You throw an idea out there and see how people react.

There was a freaking ton of this sort of thing during the Cold War. To give you an idea, one of our ships sat over a sub until the sub crew died. They didn't plan on that happening, they didn't realise the limits of the sub.

But when relations sour, you get this push and pull, and that's been there since Jefferson sent the Marines to teach the Barbary pirates a lesson.

My opinion, for what little it's worth, is that Pelosi should go. Letting China push us around is bad juju.

Trump soured the relationship, and now we have to deal with the consequences.

 

By dealing with the consequences, you mean provoking them? Does not sound like a good strategy in my humble opinion. Trump merely called a spade a spade with China on the Uyghur genocide, intellectual property and was working to balance the trade imbalance with China. He did not shat in their back yard like this administration is about to do.

 

Like I said how many months until Biden can take the reins of the Chinese relationship, since 19 months isn't enough???

 

Let me put it to you this way. If Person A uses name calling and other verbal attacks to rouse Person B to respond to such attacks each and every time, what would person A do the next time to get a response? Person A will get bolder and more direct to get said response from Person B. If other people are watching this and do not interfere, eventually the public will see Person A as the hothead first and not how person B responds. But if person B responds each and every time, with more stringent responses, then the public will see Person B as the hothead and Person A as the fool.

It's the same in politics. Yes, China will make statements that may "rile us" but China is doing this to provoke a response by us, namely the US government. It is unclear what the intentions are, but there is a reason. Thus, it is better not to respond unless it is absolutely necessary. Every time is not absolutely necessary though.

So, this is what we do, our response does not have to be statements. It can be sending an Aircraft carrier in the Taiwan Strait or to the South China Sea at some later point. It takes time to make this happen, but it can happen. Or we can use the back channels to see why China is making these statements. If a representative like Pelosi is going to China, I can assure you the back door channels are being worked right now and not the send an aircraft carrier to the South China Sea sort of thing. We would do this if China threatens to sink our ships, and they did make that statement in the war of words, the war that Trump started in 2017, in which the ship sailed into the South China Sea in 2018 or 2019.

Or it is like Putin when the Ukraine War just broke out, he put his nuclear forces on Alert. Putin escalated the war in Ukraine to a point that did not need to be. Even Putin's own advisors knew that Biden is very timid in sending troops in harm's way of their own volition just as Obama was. Except Obama was convinced by HRC to do so in Lybia. That was pretty much HRC and neocons at that time.

It is still the same China. Cosmetic differences may apply, like how Chinese men and women dress for instance, but their core values are still the same then as it was now. Economically, it was poor then, one of the poorest nations in the world. Today, not at all. But in the people, their philosophical principles are the same then as they are today.

To understand the Chinese future, you must remember the past and look at the present.

 

China is much stronger both economically and militarily unless you believe otherwise? China is not a democracy and what the people want doesn't matter.
