Isn't this rather what the US is asserting regarding those dredged up islands in the South China Sea? That the South China Sea is our national interest?

Western powers are contaminating weak minds by fake news, false indignance and double standards - for the purpose of winning our support for their next war - whether it be in the Middle East, South-East Asia, Africa, Latin America or Russia. Putin's Russia has done nothing that cannot be negotiated through to satisfactory consequences for Europe and its own population. The US (whose nose is way out of its jurisdiction) is stirring the pot rather than offering suggestions through the proper channels: the United Nations.
