China is militarizing and so is Russia and expanding out of their own borders. Looks like the new Axis powers.

Hmmm! So your thoughts then are not coming from a propaganda machine? Interesting! :confuse:

Agree with you Jeannette -it is from a propaganda machine. The veteran of World War II asked Putin - it is possible to rename Volgograd into Stalingrad. Putin answered - it is possible if to hold a referendum (to receive a people consent), but it doesn't mean that Putin wants to rename it.Whether the majority also will be not known to hold this referendum. But to tell good kind words to veterans at Putin made...I no see any problems here

I wonder why? You do know that almost all the territorial waters in the Artic, and the mineral rights they contain belong to Russia because of the Siberian land mass? In other words, there is oil in them there waters. Could that be the real reason the 'Empire of Chaos' :unclesam: is arming and sending troops to the Baltic nations? Are they pretending 'once again', that they are doing it to protect them? I mean how stupid do they think Russia is? They armed Poland even though they promised Russia they would not do so. The pretense at that time was that it was needed to protect from Iran. Then they tried to take over Ukraine illegally in order to put a Nato base and kick the Russians out of the naval base in Sevastopol. I mean come on guys, the Russians are not idiots.

Our policy was formed by Zbigneuw and Wolfowitz, and is now is being led by Kagan of Victoria Nuland fame. Their policies are very well known. Russians do read you know?

In your mind it is to arouse nationalism, which is really a reflection of how YOU think, not about how Vladimir Putin thinks. A referendum is going to be held on it, so the Russian people can choose the name they want for the city. It is up to the people, not to you or to me, now that's democracy Russia style, which somehow is a little different than the violent coup in Maidan, which is democracy :Empire of Chaos' :unclesam: style. :roflol:

Lenin and his Bolshevik ilk were a lot worse than Stalin to the Russian people, but you don't hear anything about it because he persecuted Christians not others.

When you have a country full of illiterate uneducated drunkards you can rebrand anything. Making Stalin's time seem like a unified Russian golden age only serves to consolidate Putin's power. it's in their textbooks, nearly all the gulag survivors are to old or dead by now, and all Russian television does is play porn and fake news.

Over twenty million died with the Bolshevik revolution, I guess in your mind that's nothing because they were Russians and Christians. Anyway sixty million Chinese died under Mao Tse Tsung so he was worse, but then again he had a lot more people to kill off.

So Litwin, why such an obsession with Vladimir Putin? You know he's coming for you? Hee, hee, hee! I would hide if I were you. :fight::hiding::chainsaw:

Russia has troop build up everywhere. Their arctic army is still quite small when you consider the Finnish and Norwegian troops who are along the border. Many are more concerned with their build up on the Caucasus. Guam initiatives are desperately scrapping resources from NATO to fight the Pro Russian separatist states in their respective countries. Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine have all intensified their war with Russia's "volunteer" run nations.

Russia will do what it always does. Train rebels and violate sovereignty.

Mao didn't commit large scale democide. The amount of people he killed is more around 10000. When people say he killed 60,000,000, they are actually referring to the famine that occurred during the great leap forward. Huge misconception.

    Oh the monsters !

Ah, How many Russians died due to the policies of Czar Nicky 2 the Imp
or China in pre revolution times policies or lack of them ?
I propose we look at the "net effect" and not the absolute numbers.

America was very, very lucky to have an educated population at the time of its' revolution
and the Enlightenment was the political philosophy of the day.

Stalin, Mao and Ataturk too were not saints.
They did jump start their countries into the 20th Century, skipping the 18th and 19th centuries.

Leningrad or St. Petersburg ? I vote St. Petersburg although Petrograd will do.
Volgagrad or Stalingrad ? I vote Stalingrad.
    Who was Volga anyways
And the battle deserves remembrance for the suffering and destruction experienced.

    "Terriblegrad" would be better!

Anyway, Putin has made a choice, now, what about Leningrad? He is going to "recover" the memory of Stalin and not the memory of Lenin? It's anyway a meaningful choice.

He is offering a reference which he thinks can be useful with .... with whom? Does he want to recreate a totalitarian Russia? Is there still some stalinism in some environments?

In any case it will be interesting to see how the referendum will go. I wonder if "Russian nationalism" is linked in some way to the memory of Stalin.

It looks like there's little need to "recover", as it appears that most if not all of the old Soviet era monuments are still there, and still being maintained in pristine condition. That's what I saw during TV coverage of events surrounding the Sochi Olympic Games.

If all those Soviet symbols were never torn down in the first place, it's pretty clear that Russia never actually gave up its old Soviet ways.

    Sure looks that way!
