Tonight, via tape delay and Alaska Standard Time of course, I witnessed Gabby Douglas beat her competitors and win the gold medal in the Women's Gymnastics All-Around competition. What a grand moment, watching her dominate and win it all with a smile on her face! I was cheering her on right through the end, when she went up to receive her gold medal and stand tall and proud with that same winning smile on her face as the U.S. national anthem was played in London.

Then NBC had to mar the performance by pointing out that Gabby Douglas is the first African-American to win the competition in its history.

Okay, why did that have to be pointed out at the end? Was it to win political points for the Democrat propaganda machine in this election year that NBC has so obviously been pulling for at least the past decade or so? Maybe to score some extra ratings from the black community by showing off NBC's "black friendliness"? Because I honestly did not even notice since the start of the Olympics that Gabby Douglas was an African-American; I just didn't see the little athlete that way. The only colors I saw her representing was red, white, and blue. But now, thanks to NBC, Gabby Douglas is representin' a "new" color: BLACK.

So here is a big "thank you" (tongue-in-cheek, of course) to both NBC and Twitter, who have partnered together to assist each other in ruining the 2012 Olympics by injecting race into the competitions, at first by branding the word "racist" on the figurative foreheads of both Voula Papachristo and Michel Morganella, respectively as well as bogusly; gee, I didn't know that Africans and South Koreans were "races" of people to be victimized by racism. Where have I been for all these years?

NBC and Twitter...you guys suck. :boo:

Black people are oppressed, they have to show that she's black to display Americas greatness to the world. We are the only white country that lets alot of minorities compete, more than their representation in the country by population.

Even though we are capitalist country, we are more enlightened than the socialist europeans who don't let blacks compete for them.

So when NBC does this, it shows how far we are ahead of the rest of the world in race relations.

Good for her. I assume she'll be just an American when the criminal headlines read "Man robs 75 yr old veteran" instead of needlessly including race. Not much protest when that occurs though...

Is it really that important that the color of Ms. Douglas' skin had to play a factor in her biggest night of her career? Has she ever once mentioned her own race during her Olympic interviews; that she had to win it all for her people? I never once heard her mention it for as long as I've been aware of her. Not until NBC made it a point of contention.

Couple that with Twitter's race-baiting and the media's bullying the Olympics into ejecting the two athletes for faux "racist" comments, and what have you got? *Mod Edit* for personal comments

i saw her kick ass for the USA adding another Gold to the column and tying us with China. if anything this shows that no matter what color you are you can do anything, so people need to stop (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing about welfare and how unfair (*)(*)(*)(*) is and go do it. race didnt stop Gabby Douglas or her parents from creating a meaningful and worthy life, so it shouldnt stop anyone else. you get what you put in, in Gabby's case she put in hard unrelentless work for a long time, now she is the top female gymnast in the world.

hard work, not free handouts get you this.

congrats Gabby, this go around you are the best of the best and its well deserved. Go Team USA!!!!

    You are correct.

Considering both American and Olympic history... having an African WIN something like that, is by its very nature A VERY BIG DEAL. It is especially important for other African American kids; she's an aspirational figure.

As an African American, it means a lot to me personally. Still, for America as a whole... we should all be happy!! Despite anyone's personal feelings about her ethnicity... Gabby is a product of the U.S.A. :)

Gabby is a beautiful and extremely talented young lady. She has a beautiful smile and her performance was amazing. She represented the U.S.A. well and, as an American, I am VERY proud of her.

    Thank you Gabby....and Congratulations!!!

BTW, this says a lot about how wonderful this young woman is. Maybe NBC should take a lesson from her on what was really important here: THAT SHE WON A GOLD MEDAL FOR THE USA....and not what race she is. She's a young woman of faith and she loves her Daddy who serves in our military.

"Someone mentioned that I was the first black American (to win the all-around gold), and I said, 'Oh yeah, I forgot about that!' I feel so honored," she told reporters via The Associated Press after her win.

Gabby was raised in Virginia and began training at the age of 6. When she was 9, her father, Air Force Staff Sgt. Timothy Douglas, went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan. "I just had to pray to God just to keep him safe and tell the angels to keep my dad safe and come home," she recently explained to NBC Nightly News of her father being away.

After having to miss many of her competitions, Gabby's father was able to attend her U.S. Olympic trials on June 29. It was the first time he had seen his daughter for the first time since October 2010, according to USA Today. Holding an American flag with "Go Gabby Douglas, Love, Dad" on the front, Gabby was thrilled to see her dad in the stands.

"I'm like, 'Who's calling my name?' And then I look up. It was my dad and his friend, and I haven't seen him in a while," Gabby explained. "They were holding up the flag. And I almost felt like bawling. I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, Dad!"

I did think that was really awkward and unnecessary. It seemed very out of place. Here we had just witnessed this great display of national unity and victory and all NBC could do was point out what color somebody is. Nobody was paying attention to that. It was all about what country you represent. And everyone was proud of Gabby for bringing home the gold and winning for America. It was an American victory. One that everyone could share and enjoy together.

It’s unfortunate that some people always have to make things like this awkward because they can’t just see somebody as American and be proud of them.

Hi. How's it going? Maybe you would care to show up in the crime threads that always seem to only mention one or two races and say the same thing?

She was absolutely magnificent. All America should be proud of her performance. She beat the best in the world in style and with class.

One can only imagine the amount of dedication, discipline, pain and practice she endured to reach her dream. What a rush it must have been to get that gold medal hung around her neck.

PS. she's a totally successful person who didn't do it alone, even tho she was the one who had to withstand the pressure and perform. Kinda like a successful american businessperson, wot?

So, when a black person does something BAD, ALL blacks are "savages" and "subhuman" and a reflection on their ENTIRE race, but when a black does something very well, ONLY that PARTICULAR person is simply a "good American".

Righties NEVER lose sleep over trying to have a consistent philosophy.

To leftists, its all about race. It could not possibly be because she is a great athete that performed to her very best ability to win a gold medal in a highly competative Olympic event. Its because she is black and its about time. But that is wrong, there was young black woman in the 96 Olympics, so she was first, they wom team Gold.

President Obama supports the idea of affirmative action, to which this olympic athlete has benefited from.

She was selected because she was the child of military parents and an african american, something both sides liberal and conservative Americans can be proud of.

Lest we not forget though, that progressive policies of affirmative action, paying for her training through the ranks, has established her position in such an elite class of athletes.

I would imagine that NBC wanted to point out that Olympic history was made. It has nothing to do with promoting racism or a political agenda.

corporate sponsorship in this case, she was trained by a china woman who trained the last olympic gold medalist in 2004. thats expensive but she has a good story for american morale so that is why she was selected.

either way it was progressive to pick an african american from a military family.

Nobody. amd I mean nobody, gets to that level of talent because of affirmative action. That young lady is a gifted athlete and won gold because of that, not the color of her skin. To say other wise is leftist loser racism.
