Sanctions No More: Tehran to Purchase Sukhoi Superjet, Satellite Equipment in $21 Billion Deal with Russia

(JNi.media) Iran has signed contracts to the tune of $21 billion with Russia, to buy satellite-related equipment and the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) aircraft, Sputnik reported on Saturday. Manouchehr Manteghi, managing director of Iran Aviation Industries Organization, said “there is a large share of contracts for the purchase of this type of aircraft.”

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a modern fly-by-wire twin-engine regional jet with 108 passenger seats. It claims substantially lower operating costs than its comparable Antonov An-148, the Brazilian Embraer S.A., and the Canadian Bombardier. It also offers a lower purchase price of $35 million. The exact number of Superjets Iran plans to purchase has not been revealed.

Iranian Vice President Sorena Sattari told the Russian Kommersant daily in late August that his country was in talks with Russia for the purchase of at least two types of military aircraft. According to Sattari, Tehran is also interested in using Russian rocket carriers to launch its own satellites into orbit.

And so it seems Iran is wasting no time spending some of Obamamoney and with Russkies, of course. $21bln is not a small chunk of change, and notice how everything they buy could be considered of dual purpose (civilian/military)?

OK, so Iran got the money to spend, and what did we get in return? Peace of mind, at least? Now, that's a laugh :wall:

    Thanks, Obama.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 has no military equivilant.

    Boeing particpated in the design.

But thanks for the daily dose of paranoia from the Zionist press.

An passenger jet is useful in military operations; in fact, any airline agrees to give up its planes to military in time of need, something like eminent domain.

Anything else I can splain? :)

And you have exactly what evidence that they would use a nuclear weapon?

Why build it then? But using your logic we should be able to buy/sell guns to whoever we want because they're no evidence they'll use them.

No one. But they have to get their terrorists from point A to point B somehow.

They will not; nuke is a deference and not attack weapon. But any other country will think twice before making war on Iran. So, they would basically advance their regional agenda with impunity.

    1. Nukes are a deterrent against attack by another nuclear power.

    2. You seriously think Iran is going to be flying terrorists on commercial aircraft?

    - - - Updated - - -

No, another power in the region will admit they have nuclear weapons (cough Israel cough) and will act as a regional counterpoint.

Likely the Saudis will go nuclear too.

But they already have their own planes and other countries airlines also fly there. Or are you saying that these new commercial planes are going to be used to parachute their terrorists into other countries?

Maybe you should work on your sales pitch. Screaming "Axis of Evil!" at a potential customer isn't something anyone would learn in a Dale Carnegie Sales Seminar.

"Dual purpose"? You mean like the entire civil aviation fleet of the world? Yep, that convinced me:roll:

Well, we sell guns to the violently insane and criminals at gun shows, and the NRA wants that to be legal everywhere and under all circumstances

They usually move their terrorists on regular commercial flights, first class. They haven't yet started charters for them

I guess this means that American Airlines is the world's largest airforce.

You were quite happy to sell chemical agents to Saddam though, weren't you? 'Oh, but we didn't think he would actually kill people with them', won't hold any water.

I'm curious, general. Are they going to drop A-bombs and THEN a massive airborne invasion or vice versa? Either way it sounds like a novel strategy.:roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol:

I think some people have such a hate against Iran that even the purchase of some Ferrari could have a military background in matter Fast Attack Force or so…

    Joke away and honestly:
Since Iranian Revolution in 1979 what was in one step the total end of any influence of USA in Iran and the end of their criminal backing of the Shah regime … the USA is fighting the Iran as the evil in the world … and failed totally!
No one outside the USA is since long time really interested in this silly warfare of embargo and so on. In majority it is more economic as reason why the rest world is more following the USA in matter not to lose the US market here, but the will is losing more and more.
Sure, Iran did bad in the past (hostage of embassy, supporting Hezbollah, Killing call for Salman Rushdie, … only to name few), but on the other side did the USA not better with their previously support of the Shah regime.
Even their always told will to eliminate Israel is at least only jabbering. Even if Iran has suddenly Nuclear weapons, what is questionable, Israel is far away to be here defenseless as we all know, because they are nuclear armed too, aside strong conventional military.

And of anyone wants to thank Obama here should first switch on the brain! The messed up ME was caused by George W. Bush Jr. since 2003 and Obama administration threw after some further gasoline into the burning ME!
USA lost Iraq to Iran and was incompetent in Syria and now we have an alliance of Russia + China + Iran in ME … and major allies of the USA giving a crap on US willing!

Hmmm, many Nations have nukes, none have used them except us. The US is one of the largest arms suppliers in the world, thought you would know that.

They can already fly from point A to point B, seems like you are short on facts.

Just wait 'til someone explains to the OP all the "dual" uses that food and water can be used for in regards to war making. He'll be blaming Obama for not evaporating all the H2O and killing their goats.

You need to read and not just give a cursory look; helps to understand better. Nuke is not offensive weapon, its the deterrence weapon. So, if you have the nuke and some balls, you can pretty much raise havoc with impunity.

Unless you have someone else with a nuke acting as a counterpoint. That would be Israel.
