Sarah Palin is filing a lawsuit against The New York Times for defamation, based on a June 14 op-ed the paper wrote. The lawsuit charges that the op-ed “falsely stated as a matter of fact to millions of people that Mrs. Palin incited Jared Loughner’s January 8, 2011 shooting rampage at a political event in Tucson, Arizona, during which he shot nineteen people, severely wounding United States Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, and killing six, including Chief U.S. District Court Judge John Roll and a nine-year-old girl.”

There had been rumors of Palin filing a lawsuit; the Times had offered a correction of their story but no apology.

As Townhall noted, “An FBI investigation, whose findings were revealed last year, found that Jared Lee Loughner was a disturbed young man who may very well have been obsessed with Giffords. His social media postings suggested he was undergoing a ‘mental breakdown,’ The Arizona Republic reported. In conclusion, he was the sole author of the carnage.”

But the Times op-ed, which was referencing the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise, ignored the evidence and wrote:

Was this attack evidence of how vicious American politics has become? Probably. In 2011, when Jared Lee Loughner opened fire in a supermarket parking lot, grievously wounding Representative Gabby Giffords and killing six people, including a 9-year-old girl, the link to political incitement was clear. Before the shooting, Sarah Palin’s political action committee circulated a map of targeted electoral districts that put Ms. Giffords and 19 other Democrats under stylized cross hairs. Conservatives and right-wing media were quick on Wednesday to demand forceful condemnation of hate speech and crimes by anti-Trump liberals. They’re right. Though there’s no sign of incitement as direct as in the Giffords attack, liberals should of course hold themselves to the same standard of decency that they ask of the right.

    ======================================

The murderer made it clear in interviews that he had NEVER seen Palin's advertisement and that, in fact, she had no influence on his crimes. It is easily provable that the NY Times knew for a fact that Palin had zero part, yet they smeared her name anyways. They lied, and they knew they lied about her. That is character assassination. This is Libel. This is Defamation of Character.

The case is a slam dunk. They would be smart to settle with her out of court or she will rape them like the lying little bitches they are in court and publicly. This is really bad for the NY Times.

CNN busted today and now the NY Times is going down. These Liberal media sources are proven liars, yet the believers keep on following them!

And this is why I don't trust the media. They don't care about journalism anymore, just a biased agenda.

And the Faux News cult membership lives in their own reality bubble, which cannot be breached by any known means. They literally hate math, history and science, for starters....[/QUOTE]

I'm trying to figure out why you posted this. It doesn't defend the Times and it doesn't offer us an opinion on the lawsuit. Instead you attack Fox and its viewers without any proof whatsoever to back up your claims, and even if some sort of lame attempt at proof was offered, what does it have to do with the OP?

It's a solid lawsuit. CNN is screwed either way. I am actually hoping Palin does not settle for any amount, just so she can put CNN publicly on trial for lying and propaganda. It would be amazing!

CNN is doomed on this one.

I have to admit, going for a deflection on the second post in a thread is pretty good. I mean, you gotta work hard to look for threads to derail that quickly. Good show! :applause:

Finally! I find it ironic that the WP had its header "democracy dies in darkness", yet they're the ones releasing false information and thus killing democracy. First CNN, now the NYTimes and eventually the WP. And we can have a restructured and truly fair and balanced press. Those journalistic ethics are needed for a peaceful, civilian government.

    What exactly was brutal?

And "slime" actually equates to sociopaths allowing people to die so that the rich can get a few more pennies in tax cuts.

Go Sarah! News organizations simply can't toss anyone's name in the mix to disparage them without any proof especially in murder cases. Hope she retires off the settlement. Either just go full Enquirer so everyone knows it's always a joke or be professional and do your jobs. You can't straddle the line between real and fake news esspecially when it's always one sided. All those "news" organizations need to go down.

Never heard the ugly witch from Wasilla attempt to tone down the viscous rhetoric so stop the hypocrisy already.

    And no one recalls this?

Please just try to follow along. Just once. It's really not that hard.

    1. Jared Lee Loughner NEVER saw any Sarah Palin collateral. None.
    2. CNN knew for a fact that Jared Lee Loughner NEVER saw any Sarah Palin collateral. None.
    3. CNN reported that Palin inspired the murders that day knowing that Jared Lee Loughner NEVER saw any Sarah Palin collateral. None.

Is that too complex to follow?

If you did follow, CNN committed Libel and Defamation of Character. They even retracted their lie, admitting it was a lie, but never apologized for lying and defaming Sarah Palin.

This is what is called a "slam dunk" law suit. CNN is 100% screwed here. The only questions are...

Will Sarah be gracious enough to take a settlement out of court with an apology?

    or

Will she take them to trial an utterly destroy CNN publicly in a prolonged smack down where this obvious lie, and other obvious lies CNN has told, will all be paraded one after the other in a slow grueling pace to make sure the public knows without a shred of doubt that the organization is corrupt?

Either way, the minimum she collects is about $5 million. I would guess it could reach near $50 million if she wants to be harsh.

Sarah can start shopping for a new mansion and boat. I would get my boat CNN red to always remind me that I took them down and they bought my boat.

    :tombstone: RIP CNN :tombstone:

^^^^^ Can't explain the massive layoffs that keep happening at the NY Times.

The NY Times can thank the Trump Market for its gains. :D

    My thoughts exactly.

    Oh, now I remember.

Maybe Ted and Kid promised her she could sing backup on a few songs if she could help finance their next albums?

She is probably using this suit to raise a few bucks to fulfill her lifelong dream of being Ted and Kid's backup singer.

As of March, the NY Times stock was up 30% since the election, so they are hardly "failing".

I wish Palin well. I met her once - very nice lady.
