The point of this is to be able to sustain life and produce food and provide very nice living accommodations. in otherwise completely unihabital land with no reliance on external energy sources.

This is a supperior design when compared to any current designs.

You should be chasing crowd funding then.

First phase is research and a grant.

My system would work anywhere, a modified reinforced version would even work on Luna, the earth's moon for instance....

Since steam is its primary power source, steam plants would be built to take full advantage of the extreme heat generated by sunlight on surface of the moon.

Maybe this thread should be moved to the science forum since it no longer has anything to do with the OP at all?

In one sense a good idea but then the political aspects of the question of population control vanish.
However, I can see the discussion with Doctor Who heading off into some esoteric areas such as ( forward to 23.48) advanced bio feedback/web connected/ variable spectrum LED lighting in hydroponics so maybe a move is in order?

That has always the chief complaint against me.

"VALEYARD: By order of the High Council, this is an impartial enquiry into the behaviour of the accused person, known as the Doctor, who is charged that he, on diverse occasions has been guilty of conduct unbecoming a Time Lord.
    DOCTOR: Not guilty!
VALEYARD: He is also charged with, on diverse occasions, transgressing the First Law. It is my unpleasant task, Madam Inquisitor, to prove to the enquiry that the Doctor is an incorrigible meddler in the affairs of other peoples and planets. "

Fusion (an energy with a future) could help solve some issues regarding power for lighting when growing agriculture indoors.

With lighting no longer an issue; it would merely be an issue of how many "sky scrapers" were needed to feed that locality.

My fear is that with unlimited amounts of very cheap, safe electricity nothing would stop our species from turning this planet into one, vast urban nightmare. I'm glad I'm soon to leave the planet.

Plasma as in blood plasma or as in nuclear physics?

Wow, that betrays a very scary mindset. Something that could vastly improve the human condition and lift hundreds of millions out of poverty? Ya hate it.

Lifting hundreds of millions out of poverty only to find yourself in a vast city covering the entire planet is my idea of hell, so if that's a scary mindset, that's me.

So cheap, safe, electricity will turn the entire planet into a single city?

Sounds like someone ate some spicy food and fell asleep watching Soylent Green.

Next time you're watching the evening news, especially politicians and commentators on the stock market, take notice of the way they intone that sacred word 'GROWTH'. As a species we have a powerful instinct to move towards making our ant's next ever bigger and bigger. A source of unlimted cheap energy will not be the cause of turning our planet into someting very ugly, it will be the means by which we do.

So you would condemn billions to poverty for aesthetics? I suspect morality must mean something totally different on your side of the globe than it does on my side.

Cheap or even free electricity would allow people in many regions water and agriculture.

To a degree that is true, but in keeping with the thread topic are more people needed to accomplish that?

Some on the left believe Malthus was merely, special pleading. Advances in technology, like evolution, seem to be sufficient.

Sufficient for what? Endless growth on a planet of limited size?
