Hey Shang, I am fine. Hanging in there. Speaking of cookies..I love to bake cookies, heck I just love to bake. Got a fresh batch of pecans from Texas, nothing like Texas pecans. I cleaned out my freezer and found some pecans from last season and I am going to use them first. My cousin gave me a date nut loaf recipe...can't wait try it out.
    How do you pronounce pecan?
puh cahn, pee can, puh can or pee cahn
Everyone has their own way of pronouncing pecan.

I like George Jones..ty for sharing the video.

Pee can is what truckers use. In TX, them's called Pecahns, and that's that.
Love me some spiced pecan, old TX recipe too. Yum. Baking is fun, just the eating gets you in trouble. You should see me when I sniff out a fundraiser or two. Perfect occasion to bombard people with baked goods.
Do you bake just traditional recipes or do you go around the world?

We're about 28 degrees under our norm of 68. Cold enough I stopped by Big Lots and bought myself some warm house shoes and fleece pajama pants. Feeling a little like Peg Bundy since I opted for leopard print.... but hey, I'm warm!

its puhkahn. Hate to hear pee-can. How hillbilly. (Wonder how he is come to think of it)

Dad's friend's daughter worked a trade show and came home with lots of random stuff... so I got a bag full goodies from him today. Strange mixture of fancy cake decorations like nonpareils and silver snowflakes... jars of pepper jelly, bottles of granny Smith apple rings (?). About 12 small bottles in all. Oh yeah, and a new dog dish for my lucydog.

Guess I have make something to decorate, huh?

If the owner here is so damned smart why don't they choose one name and stick to it? Would certainly save on signs.

Then again, if you're drunk, I'm open. God save Kentucky, no one else thinks we're worth it

Good evening, sir. Welcome to the forum dive. So many names because the landlords make me move every time we hit 750 posts. I fought their dumb rule, but you know how they are. ;)

Mighty cold in Big D. Speaking of Kentucky, let's have a little anti-freeze, shall we?

Why, it is a glass that is never filled, so it may never be emptied. I have been spiritually bereft these past months but now declare myself a believer, a generous god has provided my kind of miracle.

I am a river to my people, and as long as I don't go dry, I'll be happy. (I think I may go out for real now, I've nearly forgotten how much fun it is to play in bars )

I do mostly traditional but most of the traditional recipes have roots from other places. I love to bake bread. We had wheat planted on our land and I picked some winnowed it and ground the wheat. The effort was the only thing rewarding because the bread wasn't that good to me. The farmer that grew the wheat liked it...so it was a matter of taste. I loved the experience. Doing something from scratch. I hate mixes..cake mixes, cookie mixes and etc, for that matter any kind of mix, starting from scratch is always the best.

It is called variety. Smarty has a whole string of bars to her credit. The name changes but the liquors stays the same. Whatever you want she has.

Actually I think pecan is a southern Alabama and Georgia thing. Pecans are indigenous to Texas so they get to call the shots on the name. I change to whatever the region I am in. I buy most of my pecans from Texas they are the best..and they are expensive, this year..almost 12.00 a pound. Worth the money though.

When I was a kid, picking up pecans was a ritual in the fall. We'd drive around out in the country until we found a pecan tree, then scurry around like lil squirrels filling up paper grocery bags. Now I have a pecan tree in my yard... but the real squirrels get to it before me, so I buy pecans too.

Love spiced pecans... maybe Shang will share?

I will PM you who I get my pecans from. I am always pleased with the quality and they are nice people to deal with.

You be amazed what you can do with good pecans. Cooking, baking, snacking. Kale salad with spicy pecans, healthy and yummy. ;)

The Broncos play like they have never seen a football before. I need a drink.

I luv pecans in chicken salad. Esp with little pieces of mandarin oranges. Yummy.

Feeling my way around today. Eye doc talked me into trading soft contact lenses for gas permeable lenses and I forgot what it's like to get used to having a frigging boulder in your eye. He said take it 2 hrs at a time and I'm going on 3, so must be time to use the tiny tool to suck the things off my pupils. It's not vanity, but the inability to see outta glasses that drives me to endure this torture.

I could use a drink too, Shang... if you can see, pour us one, would ya?

Are you saying that it is easier to get used to contact than it is to glasses? I have bifocals and can only wear them when I am sitting down. Forget wearing and walking, that would be like drinking and driving...doesn't mix.

Oh, and it should be dripping soon. Get that jar ready

It's not a matter of getting used to them, I just flipping can't see. My eyes are way different (no cracks please)... and when they correct my vision with glasses, everything looks hilly... like your bifocal syndrome, except mine is with regular glasses. I can see OK with soft lenses, but there's a new scare out there about lack of oxygen getting to your eye with soft lenses and doing damage later. Gas permables don't have the same warning... so I'm back to gp's.

Grateful they can fix my vision... don't get me wrong. ;)

Mmmm, short ribs with potatoes and carrots simmering on the stove... just about done. Lots of carrots, good for the

    - - - Updated - - -

I was wondering which wine goes with short ribs... moonshine sounds just fine. Pour me a mason jar full, would ya?

My 85 year old FIL keeps us in pecans. He gets my 13 year old to climb up in the tree to shake limbs and pick what he can. They pick them up and my FIL shells them

Gotta be careful around here... if you put the word out that you need pecans, before you know it, folks will show up on your doorstep with grocery bags full. One of those things people hate see going to waste... but don't wanna hassle with 'em. I hated it when my mom did that. I'd be shelling pecans for days.

I used to go to Hines Nut Company on the south side of downtown when I worked in that area. Don't think they're even there anymore... replaced with yuppie condos. :(

Oh my, just checked the weather. 40% chance of freezing rain tonight. Low 28.

Could make for an interesting commute in the morning.

Yeah, that is a good question. Neighbors were without power for hours yesterday, and this morning we woke up to a dusting of snow. Who knew?
I want spring and I want it now.

Morning, Shang. Afraid we might as well get used to it... although our forecast calls for 62 later this week.

    Bah humbug, winter.
