Had to chuckle at the way Spicer handled this at the presser.
HALLIE JACKSON [NBC]: Is he expending too much political capital on a race that Republicans should be winning easily?
SPICER: Well, you know, it’s interesting. I thought that some of the coverage was a little intriguing as I watched it. Suddenly – the Democrats went all in on this race. They spent over $8.3 million. They said on the record that their goal was to win this race. They lost. And the reaction has somewhat been, you know, that they almost won. No, they lost. They made very clear what their goal was in this race. They spent $8.3 million and threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at it and lost. And so –

JACKSON: Technically there’s still two months left though, right?

SPICER: No, not in terms of what their stated goal was. They said that their goal last night was to win the race with over 50%. They spent $8.3 million. They didn’t run for a runoff, they ran to win last night, and they lost. And so, anything sort of describing that as a loss is – is sort of inconceivable to me in the sense that that’s literally what they said their goal was to do. And they said, “We want to win Tuesday night with over 50%.” They came up short of their goal. They put all the money that they had in there, they put all the firepower, and they came up short. So, it’s a loss.

Sometimes, stating the obvious is difficult for the MSM. Guess stating their case as Ossoff "almost won" eases the pain for them, but reality is he what it is, he didn't win, he LOST! Kinda a like lefties who cling to the "Hillary won the popular vote" to sooth the fact SHE LOST! Laughable, but kidda sad, too.

The headquarters of Mercedes Benz US has just moved to this district from New Jersey. Why? They were being taxed to death in NJ ! Ossoff is a, "raise your taxes," liberal.

Meanwhile, the voter rolls are being checked for fraud before the June election. Evidently quite a few folks claimed a recent move to the district.

Ossoff couldn't even vote for himself because he doesn't even live in the 6th District.
And Ossoff has been caught in a lie about his political experience.

Ossoff is about to get hammered by the Georgia Republican Coalition.

This is the one where the RNC went full-court press and barely scraped by. No matter how the right-wing desperately paints this as a "win" for their side, nobody has won yet. They now go to a run-off election where the right-winger will probably win in this heavily red district.

However, threads like this as well as the narrative that is pouring out of Trump talking heads like Baghdad Spicey speaks volumes to how freaked out the GOP is about the results of recent special elections as well as cracks showing in many others who will be up for reelection in 2018.

technically, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades

but squeaking by in what should have been a blow out is definitely something to give one pause....if your one who likes to think long term vs short term that is.

I believe the left is looking for victories these days and will take what they can get. I also believe the left, like me, doesn't really think the polls reflect how the country feels about Trump in that he is more popular that those polls indicate.

Spicer is dead on. The goal as stated by the DNC was an outright win. Now, they will face a run off where the Republicans' won't be choosing between 11 or so other candidates. There will only be one. And it will produce a win, and a hold.

Democrats spending time on these races is encouraging. It shows their desperation.

yeah, and I remember the right doing all of this around this time 8 years ago. The cycle will continue to spin and the pendulum will sing back the otherway.

Also I agree that I find polls to be dubious at best, no matter which side is pushing them, but I do think the accumulated average of all the pollsters tends to give one at least an idea of where the public sentiment stands. And that number is slowly going down. Most Presidents enjoy a nice honeymoon phase, but I think that Trumps isn't going to last as long as usual.

And in other Trumplandia news, the Wall is almost built - ahead of schedule and paid for by Mexico.

Shouldn't this be under humor and satire?

Poor Baghdad Bob Spicer. A sock puppet day after day.

Why should it have been s blowout. Trump carried the district by 2. There has been a habbit in thr liberal press to interpret the vote that popular incumbents got with the true voting patterns of thr district.

We have had two very purple districts where a popular incumbent retired and the district reverted to its normal voting pattern. That is not a sign of some groundswell. Its basic game theory. If there were some huge groundswell the candidate should have been able to do better than Hillary.

Yeah it's the same reason we have "but she won the popular vote!", "it was misogyny!", "Trump supporters are Nazi racists!" (not sure how that one applies to Cankles).

I don't think "honeymoon phase" could be attributed in any way to the Trump presidency with a straight face.

They came unhinged election night and have been insane since.

This is yet another GOP win in a long line of complete destruction to the Democrats. Every time you all have hope, the GOP just crushes it. This. Is. Hilarious

I'm not talking about those who were against him from the get-go, I'm talking about the non-partisan independents who decided to vote for him over Hillary due to opinion vs party choice. Every politician has one (even Trump in his first week or so), some last longer then others (my own PMs lasted about a year and has started declining)

What? Rep had what, 11 or so candidates, and spent half of what the left spent, who shoveled $8mil into propping up their "Trump slayer" and you're claiming the RNC went full-court press? you've got to be kidding!

After that closer-than-expected result in backward, deep-red Kansas the other week, and now this close call in GA, the hapless pubbies are clearly running scared.

Which, of course, is great to see.

Would be a MAJOR embarrassment, not to mention absolutely hilarious, if Ossoff punks that republican loser in June...

As a GA resident, gonna play devil's advocate on this one. I can't really count getting 48% by a 30 yr old, somewhat unappealing Democrat candidate in a pre runoff as a "loss," no matter how much money was wasted. Nor can I count it as a win for the GOP. The runoff will determine whether the millions were well-spent or not. It -may- be that the millions encourage more Democrat turnout in the runoff because they got "so close." This election is very much up in the air at this point, and Handel is faaaar from a dream candidate. I would rather the Press Secretary own the shills in other ways, they are such easy targets.

Just saying. Roswell isn't inner loop ATL. Totally different demographics. Ossoff doesn't stand much of a chance. the DCCC can spend all the money they want. I'm sure the local ATL media outlets will enjoy the windfall.

Yes. Right-wing money came pouring in, Cruz dropped in to support the main Republican, and they even had a Trump robo call.

The Democratic Party candidate was less than 2% away from picking up a seat out right with no need to go to the runoff in a red state district that was gerrymandered to make sure the GOP has an easy time holding it.
