What the hell are you talking about?

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), vice chair of the Jan. 6 select committee, on Tuesday reiterated that the panel is prepared to advance criminal contempt charges against those who refuse to comply with its subpoenas.

Speaking to reporters at the Capitol on Tuesday evening, Cheney, who leads the committee alongside Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), said that the panel will enforce subpoenas if those who receive them do not cooperate.

“In general, people are going to have to appear, or, you know, we will move contempt charges against them,” Cheney said, adding that the entire committee was in agreement on that point, according to Reuters.

I know that Hillary testified for 10 hours on live TV and made Gowdy, Nunes and Jordan look like a bunch of monkeys trying to fvck a football. Obama who understand the US Constitution did not order her our even suggest that she refuse to testify or ignore subpoenas. Refusing to cooperate with law enforcement and ignoring subpoenas were one of the earmarks of the horribly corrupt Trump administration. Then Trump rewarded those criminals who stonewalled and obstructed justice with full pardons. It is hard to fathom that so many people still support that crooked scumbag...

Bannon wasn't even part of the admin when he was advising Don on the insurrection so he has no claim of EP which is under the control of the sitting prez.

Yes, everyone knows that. But it is really enjoyable to see the forever Trumpers defending any attempt to obstruct justice by Trump and his criminal pals. It exposes them as enemies of the US Constitution, which they are.

I have today been reading some of the crap done by the Hitler regime to those who did not like Hitler. This all reminds me clearly that this nation is doing the same thing.

What makes you think Bannon was advising Trump at the time citizens protested at the Capitol?
    Executive Privilege
    Primary tabs
Executive privilege is the power of the President and other officials in the executive branch to withhold certain forms of confidential communication from the courts and the legislative branch. When executive privilege is invoked in litigation, the court should weigh its applicability by balancing competing interests. The Constitution is silent on the executive power to withhold information from the courts or Congress; the privilege is rooted in the separation of powers doctrine that divides the power of the United States government into legislative, executive and judicial branches.

Biden never will get the admiration that Trump enjoys. HE is a guy there because the media hated Trump.

Every hateful thing said by voters against Trump is due to just their brand of fake journalism working their minds over.

Everything I said in the post you are responding to is true.

    1) Hillary testified in front of Congressional Committee presided over by Gowdy on live TV.

    2) Obama never ordered her not to testify or suggested she ignore subpoenas.

    3) Trump ordered several people NOT to testify and to ignore subpoenas.

    4) Trump rewarded those convicted criminals who obstructed justice with full pardons. (Manafort, Flynn, Stone and Bannon)

Do you dispute any of these facts?

The criminal Hillary managed to escape Justice.
You did not quote Biden as to testifying.
Trump has the presidential right to evoke executive privilege.
There were flaws in the convictions you mention. But you can also cite when Clinton did it, when Obama did it and you will find Biden also doing it.

Main problem with your remarks are they are anecdotal.

Many Democrats dumped Hillary anyway. They say they do not like that shrill woman.

The ill placed admiration people have for Trump confirms their cult like state of mind. Hitler enjoyed the same kind of cult like status while he was in power and long after he was dead. There are still many who revere Hitler to this day. Many of those “fine people” in Charlottesville who were wearing Nazi regalia still love Hitler. They are also Trump supporters many of whom were rioting at the Capitol on 1-6-21. See what I’m sayin’....

As George Mason University professor Mark Rozell explained in a 1999 article for the Minnesota Law Review, executive privilege is “the right of the President and high-level executive branch officers to withhold information from Congress, the courts, and ultimately the public.” This power can be used in two circumstances: “(1) certain national security needs and (2) protecting the privacy of White House deliberations when it is in the public interest to do so.” The second part is especially valuable, as it allows presidential advisors to freely speak their minds without the threat of a subpoena.

One thing to keep in mind. The Congress already adjudicated the charges made against Trump and he was not found guilty.

See that? You call Hillary a criminal although she has never been arrested, much less indicted and convicted. Yet you dance away and make excuses for Trump comrades who were tried and convicted by juries of their peers as per the US Constitution. That says it all regarding your mindset and your credibility is 0.000. See what I’m sayin’?

Liz Cheney is already finished as a representative. She has to be representing Democrats.

While the haters are still full of fluff and guff, keep in mind all this would be decided by some court of law. Not the Democrats.

I am clueless why you stepped all over your own foot by bringing her up anyway. I spouted off as Democrats spout off daily. So when will you nail them?

The committee is investigating events leading up to the coup attempt. Why the heck do you think they want to talk to him?

If you read the thread as it pertains to our interaction, you would see that:

    1) You accused the present day Democrats who are conducting these hearings of being like Hitler when he was cutting off the heads of his opposition back in the 1930s. YOU actually made that ridiculously idiotic analogy. Did you not?

    2) I asked you if the Republican controlled committee who compelled Hillary Clinton to testify on live TV for 10 hours back in 2015 were also Hitlerian murderers. I did not step all over my feet but rather made a very good analogy regarding Congressional Committees.

    See what I mean now?

No, I am saying that the way these pardons were used is corrupt. These congressional hearings are convened to help our law makers write and pass laws that will be good for the country. Obviously when the power to pardon was granted by the US Constitution, the framers did not consider that someone as corrupt as Trump would be elected POTUS. These hearings could produce legislation which would prevent any other future President from abusing his pardon power by getting his criminal friends who helped him obstruct justice off the hook. That would be good for America. See what I’m sayin’?

The difference is the degree of substance and the degree in which the hearings are over a valid serious (especially security) matter. Don't mean to sound curt, but Hillary's testimony was over her role as a principal official in a military attack on US sovereign soil which should be priority #1 for any administration. By all indications it was thoroughly botched by the administration and demands oversight. The Jan 6 committee investigation is just another attempt to get Trump and as many associates as they can in any way they can. This should be government priority # 199,987,600.

How would you write an amendment that says the president has the authority to pardon, but only if it is a nice, reasonable and fair pardon??? The president either has the authority to pardon, or he doesn't. Period. The framers knew this perfectly well.

If Biden were to be charged with corruption regarding his dealings with his son and foreign governments I would fully support any legislation which prevented him from pardoning his son. I would also support an impeachment if he ordered his son to not testify or to ignore subpoenas in order to obstruct justice. I don’t care if he is a Democrat, a Republican, a Socialist or a Libertarian. To me, these issues have nothing to do with left vs right, but rather right vs wrong.

Trump has proven that the power of pardon can be abused in a way that corrupts the American justice system. If you will recall, there was a time when Manafort agreed to cooperate with the Mueller investigation in exchange for a lighter sentence. Soon after, it was ascertained that Manafort and his lawyers were feeding false information to the investigators and were scheming with Trumps team to lie and stonewall in exchange for a future pardon which would get Manafort out before any plea deal he might get for cooperating. In my opinion what was done is blatantly corrupt and should be criminal. Same with Roger Stone. I support legislation which would prevent any future President from gaming the system this way be he a Democrat or a Republican. See what I mean?

Don't mean to sound picky, but the Mamafort, Flynn, Stone, and Bannon cases had zero to do with obstruction of justice.
