I have been around the Muslim culture in Asia and it is nothing like what you described at all. Whether it is Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, or China, for the most part, Muslims, both men and women, are hard working, honest, intelligent, tolerant, family oriented, and other quality attributes. Even in the Philippines, most Muslims are not fans of Abu Sayyaf and report on their activities with the PNP. Trying to generalize a small minority is like trying to generalize all expats based on the actions of just one.

Nothing in the article states $200 trillion as the actual debt. It states some other things about why the debt was downgraded including if, and if is a big word, we spent all the money based on all the promises politicians have given us given the current and proposed tax structure. But that does not mean we are actually in $200 trillion debt right now.

I never claimed we were $200 trillion in debt right now. I claimed we were $200 trillion in the hole based on promises we've made and based upon projected tax revenues, which is exactly what the article states.

Even if millenials aren't debt slaves, they will have to pay off the debt to a large extent but in particular-- there will be people planning on having Social Security and Medicare when they get old and it won't be there for them. It may not technically be debt, but it's just as bad and impoverishing.

Point is, what the federal government is doing is criminal and Bernie wants to make more promises, wants more people to depend on Social Security and the state as a whole for things when it simply can't cover it.

I also cited unfunded liabilities, not the debt. That's still stuff we have to cover. Either that, or we tell people we have their retirement covered and when it comes time for them to get their pension, we'll have to give them a big "F you" or run into hyperinflation.

 

All politicians are making promises that they cannot keep. Do you really think that a flat tax of 10% and a tax return on a post card is going to generate the revenue that is currently being received today? Of course not. But that is the carrot being dangled to all those people who want "lower taxes" so they can keep "more of their money" and still expect all those roads, bridges, interstate highways, and everything else being free to use. Well, for starters, I am not a Trump fan when it comes to his presidential campaign.

Second, SS and Medicare are not unfunded liabilities, not according to government accounting rules and standards. It is a pay as you go system. Supreme Court has already rules that paying taxes into the system is not a guarantee of the benefit received. Both Medicare and SS are debt drivers of our budget along with interest and defense spending, especially in the procurement process. Most of the problems can be solved if politicians on both sides stop playing the "what's in it for my district" game.

I am not a Bernie Sanders or Hilary Clinton fan either. Bernie Sanders is unelectable while Hilary has a legitimacy problem with those blasted emails. Even though the investigation is still ongoing, she should not be running because of the investigation. I am not sure if she violated law or not, but the FBI needs to do its job without political interference from both sides.

I want the state to do fewer things and tax less. I don't want them to maintain control of things and tax less. In order to earn a profit and continue providing a service, a private entrepreneur has to convince someone, somewhere that what he's offering is worth more than the dollars in that other person's pocket. In order to create this thing of value, he must take cheaper inputs than what he's selling it for. So to make money, an entrepreneur has to take cheaper inputs, transform them in some way, and create something that people value more than those inputs. That's how a market economy trends toward resources being put to their highest valued use, at least in terms of the subjective preferences to consumers. The ones who make the most money have most effectively done this.

Conversely, the government charges what it will for roads, bridges, interstate highways, etc. and the rest of us can stick it. We can't say no. There may be arguments to support this sort of system in a very limited number of cases, but generally we should attempt to minimize those cases and wrestle these resources back from the hands of the state so that they might be put to a better use in the wealth-producing market economy.
