Oh wow, home schooling!! Isn't it great that we parents now are allowed to do that? I must say, the education system really tries to accommodate a broad variety of students. Now there is an opportunity for the quitting teacher from the video on page 2... she could offer home schooling for children who can't survive the bullying in the Public School. She either uses her own home or the home of some other desperate parents. Of course, the money is a mayor concern.
This is part of the problem. Too many people would dismiss the game as not very instructive, but from what I read in the post, it hones analytical skills. It also seems to give students a bit of that x-ray power. The tech guy you mention probably has seen the same problems many times, and like a good mechanic, can identify the problem easily.
You put your finger on the sore spot... something that has to be endured, monotony. Some teachers are just not cut out for the job, they are in it for the security and status, perhaps.
School vouchers don't do a damn thing to help. You'll still face with the public school system. You want private school?? Pay for your own way.
Who needs to bash teachers? The results they are putting out bashes them enough. Schools, no longer a place in society for them. All they do is make good little factory workers. Not a place for smart people.
That is what the commies say. Who needs schools? Let's keep the population stupid so we can control them. You sure you don't live in Noth Korea??
Oh yes, he was a computer whiz right from the beginning as a teenager. Most of it is self-taught, but I know he went to college for two years. He has been building, revamping, stripping and renewing computers, retrieving data etc. I trust him completely with my PC problems! Yes, I can imagine that I should actually see and try myself to move those squares around before voicing an opinion, but I am not that interested... I'm happy as long as technology works for me. It is the same with cars. I can spot a flat tire, yes, but that is it!
That would be ideal! No, it would be utopian!! Same with health care... really c a r e !! That we don't have that, has to do with the elite! The elite has enough money to pay for all sorts of fancy care, therefore, they don't give a hoot about the general working class, be it education or health care. They rather spend money and resources on military power to ensure their continued life style of luxury and surplus.
Yes, there are some who should just move on. I would say that's a minority. Most teachers I know want to do their job, but since the politicians have turned education into a scapegoat for all that's wrong with the country, they have essentially destroyed what teachers love about the profession. Teachers need to be enthusiastic about what they're teaching, and it's really hard to be enthusiastic about standardized tests. Yet that's what administrators expect to see being taught when they do observations. At some point, most teachers get discouraged and struggle to find value in what they're expected to do. Imagine doing all that you're supposed to do to the very best of your ability, only to watch students zip through end of course testing without trying to pass the test. They know they don't have to pass it, so they don't really take the time to do well, often just bubbling in the C answer on all. As an English teacher who was told repeatedly to stop making students read books, stop teaching grammar, stop using essay exams to test knowledge, stop being so hard on kids, I felt a bit disillusioned. But I turned my disillusion into a kind of rebellion against the system, and encouraged the natural rebelliousness of young people by assigning banned books and using my test prep time as a "How stupid is this question" kind of routine. The system is totally f'ed up and isn't getting any better, but we have to take what's there and use it to our advantage.
Did it become part of the National curriculum, and are you suggesting that is the cause for lowering of test scores? A link would be helpful.
If it is not politics then what is it? Perhaps I don't quite grasp your sentence. Being an average working family, in an average working class subdivision with two or three kids, would not likely inspire a child to be spurned to reach for higher education and better paid job. Kids are kids, occupied with their peer- and school survival. It is the parents who have to encourage and push their children to do better than they did. Jewish families for example make sure their kids get good schooling and higher jobs... the whole Jewish community works together on that goal. That is what we Americans and Europeans have to do too. Yes, of course, it's the power of the masses. But it is not happening. Why not? No understanding and support from the parents' side? I am not in that category right now and can't make an intelligent guess.
Yes, read my book on classroom management! I taught in inner city Brooklyn and if you are a talented teacher, it’s so rewarding. I truly believe teaching is a talent...some have it, some don’t . I keynote to teachers and I encourage those who are miserable to leave. But the reality is we cannot get the best of the best because we do not pay them what they deserve. For generations it was easy to pay low wages because it was predominantly a female profession. I know so many people who would be incredible teachers but don’t go into teaching because it doesn’t pay enough. Paying them more money would help a great deal because it would bring more talented people into the classrooms
Yeah, we only have one of the most Important jobs ....educating the future of America. Not that Important.
Then quit screwing it up and teaching kids that socialism is OK, joining ANTIFA, assaulting other kids and all that other nonsense you "teachers" are involved in.
I don’t k ow what kind of hospital you saw people not being washed. That’s what aides do. I guess saving lives isn’t that important.....just looking at computer screens, must be watching porn. No wonder there is a shortage of nurses. My granddaughter wants to be a nurse practitioner and they get paid over $100,000
How do we get that additional $15,000? Why should an accountant get more than double what a teacher gets? Teachers get paid for ten months and if you think a college grad who has the responsibility of educating your child and keeping her safe all day is on,y worth $4,500 a month it shows your lack of respect for education.
Thank you so much for giving us a privileged insight into the system. I find it hard to believe they forbid you to have kids read books, stop teaching grammar, stop using essay exams to test knowledge, stop being so hard on kids. Unbelievable! Is that our so called "soft society?" Don't you find that strange, when later these kids have to go to war and kill and torture and destroy whole countries? What kind of devil is riding our politicians? You know, I could point out so many contradicting flaws in our North American democratic Utopia, we should be ashamed feeling superior and believe we can teach other, of course lower, societies some lessons.
There it is “socialism”. Hey we’re all commie pinkos too lol..I know you don’t want kids taught science and history....we should just teach them what Stalin did ....the press is the enemy of the people . By the way public education shouldn’t be for everyone...after all public education is socialism..let’s rid of cops and firefighters too...too socialist
What is your experience? I work with thousands of teachers every year.and I don’t hear that problem. I am very often hired in June to motivate teachers to stay because they feel they don’t get enough money and enough respect and they can get a lucrative job being a computer programmer or an accountant
