You can't know how many didn't happen at all, or were stopped before they reached the "mass level". Those don't make international news. I know of one that was stopped without a shot fired, a single person injured, or any other problems, aside from a front door that needed to be replaced. But less than 2 dozen people know that story, and frankly that's being generous. But had my friend not been armed that night his entire family would have been slaughtered, and I would never have had the honor of meeting him.

He also posted a three-minute video on the social networking site MySpace featuring IRA fighters branding guns and wearing balaclavas. On his dating profile on the website Spiritual Passions, he wrote that he "doesn't like organised religion". His username on the dating site was ironcross45 – a possible reference to the Iron Cross, a German military symbol reintroduced by the Nazis. A user with the same name spent almost £100 on a Nazi SS officers' cap on a different website more than two years ago.
