I am not really looking for reparations from blacks, but I would like a little more recognition for white culture.
white culture gets lots of recognition, just look at all the first person shooters and war movies your industry creates and promotes and ppl play and watch, what more do you want
/Right, because there are no white artists and never were. Will Shakespeare, Leonardo da Vinci and Mozart were black./ sarcasm
Technically corporations are people. Corporations are owned. Ergo, corporations are owned people. Owned people are slaves. Slaves are owed reparations. QED corporations are owed reparations.
corporations are not people, they are ideas. you cannot physically touch a corporation with your hands, more and more corporations are defined electronic signals that pass over peoples heads.
Yes. Just as I would deny 'gangsta' crap is crucial to understanding black culture. But if violent games and movies were crucial to defining white culture, they would be preferable to having 'gangsta' violence and misogyny defining black culture. The fact of the matter is that there are more than one or two facets to a culture, as you should know. Oversimplification is a type of lie. - - - Updated - - - You disagree with the Supreme court of the US then. Corporations are legally people under US law.
i dont care what the us says is law idont live there thank you. 'gangsta' rap is crucial to understanding 'black culture'. you can deny violent european culture all you like it makes no difference to me. just another person.
But if you don't care about conditions in the US, why are you posting about reparations to US Blacks? Are you indulging in a bit of race-baiting or trolling in general? 'gangsta' rap is crucial to understanding 'black culture'. you can deny violent european culture all you like it makes no difference to me. just another person.[/QUOTE] Again, you say you don't live in the US, and don't care about conditions here. Not caring implies unwillingness to put forth the effort to understand. How would you know what's crucial to understanding segments of our population and what's not if you are unwilling to understand us? For the record, gangsta rap is not only violent, it is misogynist. I do not deny violent European culture. All successful cultures contain an element of violence. A truly nonviolent culture would be destroyed by the first violent, aggressive one it came across. So what you're really talking about is a matter of degree.
such a defeatist attitude. european culture is not successful it just only lasted 400 years and that is off the back of slavery, shameful and already resigned to the dust bin by the looks of it, no doubt.
More likely to make the whites think a little about their assumptions. Reparations deserve to be considered, but ultimately they will be left on a far back burner until they are no longer necessary. Despite the fact that we still have a long way still to go, we have come leagues from where we were a few decades ago.
I only support reperations if it would be used to fund institutions to help educate black folks, fund investments in their communities, etc. just issuing checks to families will not do.
Big true there. But who will be in charge of the distribution? Who will decide which organizations are worthy of the funds? Honestly though you are jumping way ahead of the current situation. As of now the argument for reparations is dead, on its own merits, nevermind the complexities of implementation. - - - Updated - - - Big true there. But who will be in charge of the distribution? well, if the reperations were in the USA, several large organizations would be set up for job training, funding college tuition, funding day care, creating middle class jobs in black areas, etc.
The race of the people in charge would be relevant. I am going out on a limb but without oversight distribution would be problematic, and with oversight it will still be a problem. My anecdotal experience (which I will not detail here) has shown that people (of any race) do not do well handling group funds. Should the person handling the funds be someone beyond reproach? People beyond reproach are nearly twice as likely to abuse their positions. Should the person be vulnerable to everyones scrutiny? Those tend to be taken from power quickly by the weakest of the ambitious. So the whole thing is likely to be rife with graft. But this is only if anyone took the whole thing seriously, and as of now they do not.
Hilarious! Texas County Commissioners Accidentally Vote In Approval Of Slavery Reparations Dallas, Tex. (CBS HOUSTON) – A group of Texas county commissioners accidentally voted unanimously to approve monetary slavery reparations for African-Americans whose ancestors were enslaved in the U.S. The Dallas County Commissioners Court declared on Tuesday that African-Americans deserve “monetary and substantial reparations” from the U.S. for 400 years of suffering caused by the enslavement of Africans over the course of the country’s history, The Dallas Morning News reports. Commissioners thought they were honoring an annual holiday when they voted for the “Juneteenth Resolution” – sponsored by the county’s lone black commissioner, John Wiley Price. Price, who read the resolution aloud, appeared to deliver the broad speech on slavery history and Jim Crow to a group of seemingly uninterested commissioners. And it was the last line of the resolution that did not draw attention from the room. “The United States of America is derelict in its promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to the African American people,” Price said. “Be it further resolved that the dereliction that has caused 400 years of significant… suffering to the descendants of those who have been enslaved Africans who built this country, should be satisfied with monetary and substantial reparations to same.” Immediately after the reading of the resolution, a commissioner seconded the motion and the court passed it unanimously.
Okay, how the hell does one manage to "Accidentally vote unanimously" for something like this? Yeesh.
...But seriously folks, it was probably political correctness. They were probably like, oh I better not vote against this bill. Otherwise, I'll look racist. African Americans are very fashionable these days. The only group that isn't fashionable these days and therefore racism is encouraged are white males. I mean there are actually laws that discriminate against white males today, just like there were laws that once discriminated against African Americans when they weren't fashionable.
