the Freedom Delusion

I see a huge problem with the American people being propagandized, mislead, and dumbed down on the concept of freedom.

First of all, there is no such thing as absolute freedom, except for anarchy, which no one in power wants.

Yet there is a serious problem in this country due to the manipulation of the right wing who have convinced the American sheeple that all laws, taxes, regulations, and government programs are anti-freedom, in spite the fact that many of them actually increase freedom for the majority of people.

Then this same group denies, deflects, and covers up the fact that they are constantly attacking freedoms for a large number of citizens, while demonizing their opponents as anti-freedom.

It's really amazing how audacious and devious these people are, but extremely sad that so many people are too dumb or lazy to figure out the truth. A good example of this is regulating industrial pollution. Providing clean air for millions and preventing them from dying of cancer or lung disease is freedom, yet the pollution lobby convinces them that it's tyranny. A better example is Social Security. Probably the greatest government program in history, social security gives millions of old people the ability to survive after they're too old to support themselves, yet conservatives have convinced many voters that financial security and freedom are tyranny, while gaining a few dollars a month to blow on beer or new speakers is supposedly liberty.

To paraphrase the founding fathers, those who would give up essential liberties for trivial ones deserve neither.

If the government cared about the people even one percent, you wouldn't see all the corporate welfare you do now. The FDA also wouldn't allow aspartame and high fructose corn syrup in our foods. Or allow the TSA to molest children.

So yeah, I'll take the libertarian version of freedom over the socialist or corporatist version anyday.

 

The American people are responsible for themselves in terms of informing themselves as to what is propaganda or fact, until they do so, we get exactly what we deserve...

Unless you are well armed and willing to kill, absolute anarchy is not something any sensible person should want.

The people elect the clowns and both sides are equally guilty in manipulation. Our nation is in shambles and no one side is responsible, the sooner we figure that out the sooner we can work to actually fix it. The true blame of our situation is voter apathy. If we fail to recognize that, no further efforts matter.

 

Acetaminophen is the number one cause of drug overdose and liver failure in the western world yet it has been available as an OTC drug for decades. The FDA is doing a fantastic job of protecting us from ourselves.

 

Libertarians are just a slightly more polite version of Anarchists.

All I know is that I work 70 hours a week and my wife works 50. We make a pretty decent living. However, between taxes and student loans we can't afford to have kids right now nor do we have time. But we are responsible people and work hard, live frugally, and pay our taxes and our debt and hope to have children soon.

Yet I manage people who have multiple children and live on my dime on welfare because idiot lefties are happy to take my money and give it to these deadbeats. I see people who abuse and milk unemployment. People who come in and apply for work just to keep it rolling in or because it just ran out. I have HR make my life a living hell in firing anyone because of unemployment.

I just want to keep my money. And I want to watch these social parasites starve to death after I fire them and the government checks stop rolling in.

No, it's just that leftist "truth" is colored by emotion based delusions like the idea the US/world is run by a shadow government, rather than cold hard objective facts like the Social Security and Medicare systems are completely unsustainable outside of 1-2 decades.

Today you have corporatism.

Libertarian is lose of freedom. The problem is that you can arrive to an intermediate point of libertarianism and socialism.

- public Universal healthcare
- public education
- public communications
- public fisic installations of telecommunications

In free market, without any intervention of the government:
- Private healthcare: that would give extra services to people that want to pay, for example, better rooms, better food in hospitals...
- Private education, the same as healthcare
- In telecommunciations the companies would be the ones that would give the services, using the public installations(network) competing in quality, prices...

And things like that, what is private and not essential for the life of people absolutely unregulated. You can arrive to a compromise between both worlds. That would be the best solution.

Obviously the corporations of essential services will protest, mainly in education and healthcare.

 

I am not sure who the TSA are in your country, however, had a quick look, and ...ah right, gotcha, yeah, to be honest, the airport stuff, esp in the US as Western countries go, is just too invasive, and totally out of proportion.

Also, I would not be surprised if there are plenty of sexual deviants in that job, that do get a boner at thinking they are god, and patting kids and people down often in places that no hands should be allowed to touch, unless there is absolute evidence of a given person perhaps having something dangerous or illegal hidden in that area.

911 was good for those that made new airport security products, everything from new types of scannners, to all manner of technology. For them, through purely corporate eyes, it was a licence to make money.

Who does manufacture most of the security technology and equipment, esp that which has been developed since around 2001.

As to toxins in food, I am afraid that is another downside to corporate plutocratic societies.

In short - they only give a hoot about making their brand as profitable as possible.

Yes, I respect those comments, however, I consider it a crime against your free press and free media, for corporates to have formed, that now OWN the media, and tell people their version of events.

They are the worse of people, putting out lies, misinformation, and propaganda, into the mainstream.

American people should demand that a New Commission On Monopolies be set up.

This would have the task of breaking up the media domination, of the five big players, and encouraging both more independent, and more old fashioned, investigative journalism, with truths.

1) You work 120 hours between you, every single week, and cannot afford to have a baby? Come on man, what do you expect it to be born with - a penchant for bollinger and lobster.

2) Don't go hating on a group of people, as if they were a mass, all the same. Why look down the way, and hate on fellow Americans, when you could look up the way, and you would realise the real reason why, no matter that you work all those hours, and I 100% empathise with that, you cannot somehow seem to get yourself into a better financial situation. That is terrible, and it need not be that way. I personally think you are working way too many hours, but that is up to you, and fair enough to you if you need to do it, chap. But please, try to avoid falling into the trap of blaming all your countrymen, who may need some sort of assistance. To paint them all as deadbeats is grossly unfair. Many of them might be girls who thought they could trust the man, but like a rat, he upped and left. They made a TOUGH decision to have the baby, rather than do what too many do and abort. Personally, if a bit of my money is going to help them, I am fine with that. It is true that you taxes do not need to be what they are, not just income tax, all tax. But you are blaming the wrong people, albeit the people that those up the ladder from YOU want YOU to blame. It deflects real scrutiny of them, and how they REALLY rob you.
