I'm not kidding about this "new safe" technology GE is proposing. Want to know the sickest part of all? This snippet comes to you courtesy of Homeland Security! Tell me GE dosen't own our nation... Here it is:

So there you go folks. GE, er, um I mean "our country's leaders" assure us that we are safe because Japan's tsunamis were "unbelievably large". Come to think of it, several of last week's tornados were "unbelievably large". And hurricaines in recent past were also "unbelievably large". The earthquake predicted for California in the very near future, near two active, crumbling invisible death machines [aka nuclear reactors] is supposed to be "unbelievably large" too. And the flooding in the Midwest/Mississippi is also "unbelievably large".

What the hell are we doing? Nuclear reactors in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA where sunshine is so plentiful it is actually a menace? There are vast regions in that state where hundreds of fresnel or other solar plants could be installed [and controlled by GE, why not?]. In Japan there's a thermal vent around every corner. Why the hell were they sold on nuclear? Nuclear heats water to steam to run turbines...when there's already steam AT OR NEAR SURFACE all over Japan!

And speaking of the Mississippi, why aren't we harvesting the energy in that endless and massive current?

Like I said, we will be remembered as one of the worst plagues that ever lived on the face of the earth. Plutonium, a substance we know not how to control, the genie out of the bottle, sitting as the most toxic substance known to man for 24,000 with all we have is a hope that future generations are capable of dealing with it. And if we stopped building reactors today and shut down every single one, we'd still have a nightmare on our hands. And we're thinking of more...oh my yes...why not more!

This is a good sign for another reason: Germany is always the leader in science it seems. And I like the comment from the Environmental minister Roettgen that their decision to eliminate nuclear plants is "irreversible".

That's a strong statement. For some reason it is revealed in that article that energy companies plan on suing Germany...lol. On what grounds? Lack of ability to render the nation crippled and in the Third World forever because of one cooling mishap?..lol.. Lack of ability to lie and send children to regions hopelessly polluted forever at 20 times the safe level of radiation exposure for them???

I hope Germany calls their bluff and countersues for wilfull intent to harm Germany. I'm not sure if they have the death penalty over there still or not. That level of treachery should get a reception on par, no matter what the law.

At the store, turn every product over and look for the GE label. Then don't buy it if it's there. It will only take you a few moments longer to shop and you won't be financing killing children. Think how good you'll feel! And when GE gets behind Germany and announces it will scrap plans to build not-safe new reactors, then double up on your purchases of GE products. Of course only do so when you see the action of GE's switch and not mere words.. The entire nation of Germany should boycott any subsidiary product of any "power company" who sues it for the "right to harm Germany".

Thank you for staying on top of this subject! Our media does a poor job of doing any real investigative journalism, keeping our public oblivious to the realities of this nightmare modernity we have create over the years.

Yeah, no problem. Well it's not a real puzzler why "the media" on NBC or MSNBC is staying mute about the worlds worst nuclear disaster. Their parent company GE has given orders. And that's that.

And sitting at the right hand of the President is GE's man in the hole. So you will get a clamp down coming from that channel too.

Now that Germany has come out in an uncompromising stance against nuclear energy, all GE can do is threaten a lawsuit. I hope Germany counters that with a brick upside the head. GE doesn't own the world, although they may have deluded themselves that they do. A good boycott will trim their wings until they start to fly right.

I'd be perfectly happy to buy GE if they abandoned nuclear like the trend is going to be anyway. They should look like innovators instead of cavemen. It would be less of a financial hit than trying to control the media, lying, getting caught and being countersued by a high profile country like Germany.

Give it up GE. The jig is up.

Nuclear energy is cavemen technology, right. I suppose you want us to be stuck in the fossil fuel mire for all eternity, right?

Germany's stance on this matter is nothing short of idiotic, brought on by a bunch of risk-aversive conservatives in the Bundestag. Meanwhile, across the Rhine, UDP is planning to expand France's nuclear energy capability.

Yeah, it's "idiotic" to want to avoid Chernobyl and Fukushima in a country the size of a US state. You know, they have so many thousands of square miles to spare of arable land to feed their bulging population.

You render it uninhabitable and you ruin the country. Third world status overnight. They are right and proper to get rid of nuclear. And I hope GE sues them. Because the counter-suit will be a pleasure to watch unfold..

GE looks like a villain right now. They could look like heros. It's all up to them. Good business men know how to spot trends. I'd say the world's fourth largest economy announcing it's canning nuclear is pretty indicative of the time$...

Thinking would involve considering the fact that neither France nor Canada have had any meltdowns.

Would it also require that Ukraine has which is a nextdoor neighbor?

    So what?

The point is that nuclear technology is safe if you take the right precautions.

People are really getting far too hysterical over this.

Meltdowns happen when you mismanage things.

Let me give you another example.

Do you think the BP oil spill means that deep sea drilling is too dangerous to ever engage in again?

    In a word, yes.

I don't know how many animal die offs you need to see to understand that. Or are those because of "GLOBAL WARMING!!!!"

Or even when you don't. See the recent news on killer tornados. They aren't "managed".

The number of nuclear mishaps allowable is less than 1. We've had three, two of them have rendered entire regions uninhabitable.

Germany is the trend-setter. Investors take note.

How about a 6.5 earthquake in the gulf of Mexico or off the coast of Alaska? Do these precautions protect against that?

Anyone even attempting to draw even the faintest of parallels between Chornobyl and an American or western European nuclear power plant falls into one of three categories: ignorant, dishonest, or stupid. So, which is it?

That's right...because the physical properties of radioactive plutonium, caesium and iodine don't apply in the US. A meltdown here would not result in abandonment of hundreds to thousands of square miles of land for thousands of years. That only happens in other countries.

So which is it? Are you ignorant, dishonest or stupid?

How about irrelavent and demonstrating that his point was irrelavent and you're a little behind on the conversation.

You might as well end all coal mining too, considering how many recent accidents we've had with those.

From a plant built in the 60s which still managed to go through the shutdown procedure, albeit ineffectively.

I hear in Canada they've built meltdown-proof reactors as well.

The containment vessels were supposed to be "leak proof."

Nuclear industry tells the truth about nothing.
