We have 616,087 bridges in our nation which support vehicle traffic of these 47,052 (8%) are structurally deficient needing urgent repair.
Overall some 235,020(38%) are in need of some type of repair or upgrade.
Average age of the structurally deficient bridges is 62 years.
Americans and tourists drive across structurally deficient bridges 178 million times per day.
We are a nation in decay.

Dont worry amigo, with the state of the world as it is now, it wont be long before every country
on the planet will be closing down their borders with walls and fences..63 countries in Europe have
walls and fences already...open your eyes....sorry I meant to say there are 63
walls and fences around various countries....

    Agreed.

Let's stop spending all our money on vote buying schemes and pet projects that only benefit politicians reelection campaigns and start spending money on boring things like infrastructure.

Which absolutely pales in comparison to social welfare spending.

Here is your arguement in micro terms.

"Oh my God, we have to fix the roof on the house! It's in very bad condition. We need to stop eating out once a week and save money!" - while simultaneously ignoring that you buy a brand new car every month.

The bridge count is for the nation and is pretty accurate. In addition to our decaying roads and bridges we also have 250,000 ruptured water main pipes across the nation every year wasting millions of gallons of water as they age in place generally getting patched or retro fitted but rarely if ever replaced and updated.Just another bit of our decaying infrastructure.

Things are worse than they seem:

    https://www.weeklystandard.com/christina-hoff-sommers/no-country-for-burly-men

Have linked this fact-filled account of how the great "shovel ready infrastructure" Obama stimulus was so easily diverted into the coffers of the progressive feminist Left and other toxic LW ratholes. No LW poster here ever comments on it. Wonder why? (I don't).

But sure, let's give them more and more power and control. What could go wrong?

    Thoughts OP?

What you think a bridge is and what a bridge, by definition, really is are two different things. There are several hundred bridges in my county alone, population about 120,000.

I suggest you research it doubting Thomas you'll find it is pretty accurate. It is only the bridges which support traffic.

In the Obama stimulus ONLY $15 Billion was appropriated by congress for infrastructure in 2009 and another $15 Billion in 2010.The majority of the total $800 Billion was mailed out to people as checks to get them spending and recharging the dead economy.

Do you mean those mailed out to the bankers who caused the calumny?

The reason I ask is that I never received any checks.

Yeah because trump hasn't spent any money on bridges. He has given it as welfare to corporations and the 1 percenters.

Maybe you guys should let in a 100,000 refugees thru Mexico and get them to fix the bridges...and then...guess what....they can all live under them...problem solved...just give them a cardboard
box to live in and some curtains...maybe a broom to sweep up the place...you know keep it tidy, just in case the neighbors decide to visit....and then tell them where to register for their free benefits...
oh...and point them towards the nearest liquor shop....and gun shop...no...sorry...theyve probably got their own guns....

Of course our brand new pedestrian bridges crossing highways aren't too well constructed either, since within the past two years we had one of them collapsing killing people in Florida.
