I thought that the mechanism of becoming a zombie explained by the doctor at the CDC was reasonably sound. With a poetic license, there is precedent in nature (i.e. “zombie fungus”). The problem that I have with the show is time. If it is assumed that the zombies are “dead”, it must be assumed that the zombie can not process food to regenerate muscle and tissue. The basis of the zombie biting another organism would be to propagate the virus or fungus and mass attacks are simply self-defeating in that the fungus can only primitively control the brain and not create zombie cooperation.

In Georgia, USA, the weather is reasonably hot so decay should set in and render the zombies immobile after a month or so due to muscle and ligament deterioration. For a two hour movie, endless zombies are reasonable. For a series that appears to span many months, I think the show directors should focus on how the zombie decomposition rate is slowed down.

You just explained away the entire zombie genre. I've had the same problem with it as you. The solution would be just to hold up somewhere until the zombies have all deteriorated to the point where they're no longer a threat, and can be easily disposed of. What keeps them from decomposing has never been properly explained.

I agree and its why I prefer versions where the genre has infected live zombies, which several books and movies have used. You would have more agile zombies and less shamblers that you could simply walk away from, however on the plus side you wouldn't have to have a head shot to put them down.

There was a short story that I recently read called "Extinction Theory" which had zombies infected similarly to how the fungus species of ophiocordyceps unilateralis infects insects. It was not well written but I liked the concept because it used something we know in nature to occur and be true, which in my opinion always makes the story line more credible. I do not recall the CDC in the walking dead giving a similar explanation for the zombies I will have to go back and watch that episode again.

So glad dale got killed, was seriously getting tired of his whiny ass Dr.Phil bull(*)(*)(*)(*).

One less person to cut too just to hear them sad about something the better.

And to be honest I wouldn't mind seeing Ricks son get killed followed by Sophia's mom, both of them are straight up bummers and make me sick to watch them as they are annoying and bore the hell out of me lol.

The show would be pretty awesome then.

    Yeah, Dale was a PITA.

"It's not like it was before, Rick." -Shane

The kid is an interesting character tho-
Rick - is what's just and noble in us all - but he's changing; adapting to the new normal.
Darryl - I can relate to, being in a family that hunts and understands "you're on your own" more than city folk.
Shane is a survivor. Me first/middle/last. Dangerous. But ultimately practical.

And since I lived the first 36 years of my life in big cities, I get the mindset of both sides. It's all interesting. Good show.

Reiver, this LifeForce film is starting. I wanted to watch it with the family, my husband muttered "No no no. Not for mixed company" (that is us and younguns, not men and women). Then something about "read the reviews" and "unsuitable, nudity, that's not a banana she's eating...":wtf:

Daryl is my favorite character and I'm praying to god he doesn't hook up with Sophia's mom as I'm hoping she gets killed off.

The kid, eh he is annoying me more than anything now, his scenes are highly boring and of hardly any importance other than what happened last episode. Other than that he is just a dud in my opinion.

I didn't like Herschel at first because it was like having to listen to another dale, but ever since he got some sense knocked into him I think he is a great character and prone to kick some real ass in times to come.

Glenn, I like him too, he is a true asset to the group and he don't sit around moping. Plus he bagged a hottie in a world where I'm sure they are in very short supply, gotta give him props on that lol.

Shane?? Eh sometimes I like him and sometimes I just wanna kick him in the face and tell him to get over ricks wife. But he is a bad ass and even though he is probably a bigger threat to the group he is equally needed for the groups survival.

Rick is also a bad ass but he is worse about making up his mind than any woman I have ever known lol. But even if his leadership skills have been lacking a bit lately I'd still feel better in a zombie fight with him on my side, dude can think well under extreme pressure and does damage.

And just for kicks I'm making bets that Daryl's big brother is with the group Randall came from. We still don't know what happened to him other than his hand was cut off, and its about time for some good surprises towards the end of the season and I'm betting he is one of them because I doubt a lot of people remember or think about him.

    Just food for thought.

I think you got some real good observations there. I think Carol does need to get gone, unless she wakes up, stops acting like a victim(boring!) & becomes somewhat interesting somehow.
The kid & the women need to be somewhat front & center, 'cause they are a reminder of why it's worth fighting for survival, IMO. But agreed, the kid is annoying at times.
Great takes on your part about the guys.
I haven't forgotten about Daryl's brother, & if/when he'll pop up(for real, though, not in a dream). I didn't consider that he may be with the other group, though. Now, wouldn't Daryl have an interesting choice to make? We'll see how it plays out.

There's an idea... Daryl's brother as part of the other group.

If Merle did pop back up, my guess is Daryl wouldn't be as eager to join his brother as he may have before the whole Sophia debacle.

    Dale!!! NO!!

Is that even physically possible? I know that has never stopped a TV show but seriously? With it's bare hands?

I loved Dale he was brilliant. I was so looking forward to the Andrea/Dale story line.

    Daryl is class. More Daryl.

And less Shane who needs to be walkerfied.

And can the two groups meet soon. 'Cos that has to be an eventful episode.

Does anyone else feel there have been far too few zombie hoards this season?

i honestly dont see Carol's character getting too interesting, she was kinda boring from the beginning and is somewhat of excess baggage on the group and story line. its like they keep her around to fill in for a few scenes which are boring and drag out. but seriously if her and Daryl somehow hook up like some people are talking i will quit watching the show.

i understand about you saying the kids and women should be front and center, they are very important to survival in a world such as this, but that (*)(*)(*)(*)ed kid to me is getting less and less worth saving haha. he went from a smart kid at the beginning to a total wreckless moron who is gonna get people killed....oh wait he got Dale killed already lol, and eventhough i thank him for that :headbang: id hate to see a good character get disemboweled because of another game of tag with a walker lol.

and as far as Daryl and his brother meeting up, it would be very very interesting indeed. but i think Daryl has become a totally different person now that he probably believes his brother dead, he drifted from being like his brother and i think he feels his family will be the group overall. i think what ts gonna come down to,if it happens, the 2 groups get together and obviously fighting for control ,supplies and land and Daryl's new instinct to protect the group he is with will kick in and it will be brother vs. brother. i only say that because of how he defied his brother in those hallucinations, and i think it would be the same kind of thing in real time.

oh and Shane and Andrea need to go on and hook up, they are perfect match considering they are both a lil off the deepend and both are thirsty to kick some ass, they would make a great team lol. and to be honest it would be good for both of them, they wuld relieve alot of stress for eachother and i think it would get their heads right and with something to truly look forward to for both of them they would be 100 times more useful and deadly, they would be tough to stop.

it appears these zombies are quite strong, and to be honest its not hard truly to rip someones throat out with your bare hands so i dont think it would be hard to do it to a person who has no muscles in his stomach and laot to try and rip on if you were really wanting too. wouldnt be easy but im sure with enough strength and pressure you could rip into someones stomach.

i honestly got tired of Dale, the writers took his "voice of reason" role way too far, felt like i was watching a crying woman honestly. and with that im sorry but the Dale?Andrea story line got old fast, he aint her daddy and didnt need to treat her like a little girl all the time. he only held her development back IMHO.

cant have less shane now, the story is way too thick considering Lori is most likely prego with his baby. plus he has a few tricks up his sleeve to try and take over control of the group, thats another story developing all in itself and sure to lead to some good episodes. someone is gonna die, have no worry about that.

everything else, its obvious the 2 groups are gonna meet up and its gonna get real nasty considering Randalls story of what men from that group did to those 2 teen girls and their father. a bloodbath is in the near future.

and yes, way too little zombies, but they have picked up since the first half of season 2 which was basically a drought and nothing but talking and whining. hopefully we get to see more action like in season 1 very soon.

Why am I so sad that Shane was killed by Rick? It's strange that it makes me sad.
I wasn't sure of the circumstances, I (& others) predicted that the farm was gonna be overrun by zombies & sure enough, here they come!

They can't be all badasses. It would be to monotonous. There has to be personality conflict.

im not honestly, Shane was never gonna stop his pursuit for Lori after all so this saves us all from more pointless whining about it from Shane. cant wait to see who dies in the next episode and who shows up to help hehehe.

crossing my fingers that atleast Carol gets ripped.

but uhhhh i think i truly understand the meaning now of "The Walking Dead", cant believe i didnt realize it before.

we have way too many personality conflicts that lead to wayyyyy too many sub plots, a few more need to die so things will run smoother instead of the writers trying to cram 10 different stories into an hour.

next week, DINNER IS SERVED :skull:

    No you won't, LOL.
His character is a good plot device - he's a catalyst.
Yes, and wouldn't that be predictable?
    Maybe not.
