PLO did train IRA (I saw that movie). Two years is a second in the general scheme of things. People were still talking about... heck... folks here still talk about our Civil War. RAF worked with the IRA? Huh? Why would the British Royal Air Force work with the IRA?

RAF = Rote Armee Fraktion. You said you were in Germany and never heard about them ????????????.
What were you doing hiding under a rock, or a US barracks ghetto.

Red Army Faction? Yeah... I seem to remember... long ago and far away. Not a big deal in my world. Do you track the New York Yankees? I lived in US Army housing, had fun in the Officer's Club, and worked hard. We enjoyed Rothenburg, Heidelberg, Mainz, etc. But German civilian news wasn't a big part of our world... any more than the Yankees are a part of yours.

I think baseball is rather boring and not a sport, if one can call it that, that I keep track of.

But RAF was not a sports club, it was a major terrorist organization and US soldiers were part of their targets, or US instalations.
Not knowing after having been in country for such a long time, raises some real questions, don't you think so?

    Hiding under a rock.

Sorry... it simply wasn't high enough on our list of priorities to worry about. We trained to handle our weapons, tactics, etc against the Russian hordes. German criminals were not in our bailiwik. We weren't effected by them so they weren't a priority... just a blurb in the news.

did they..???.....I'd be very very doubtful of PLO training the IRA....they probably just used the same locations....the IRA active duty teams were paranoid about security...they worked on the old soviet style 4 man team compartments so I'd be pretty sceptical if active duty units were mixing with active PLO types....open to discussion on that point as it's outside my field

Jo, they did. Like the RAF they got some weapons and explosive training in those camps. Additional Bulgarian and East German specialists in terrorism were available for Urban terrorism training and targeted murder, car bombs, shootings and so on.
It was all part of the idea to undermine West Europe with terrorism, they had quiet the network.
Bader Meinhof was a home grown outfit, brutal and murderous but not really professional. The RAF that came afterwards were rather professional. In the late 70s that evolution started with all terrorist organizations in Europe and they cooperated with each other, with the help from East Europe/Soviets.
We watched that evolution rather close.

    One more thing.
West Germany got rather badly burned at Munich Olympics. Federal police and Bundeswehr got card blanch to built units, that were meant to prevent anything like this to happen again. The lead organization became GSG9, Federal Police, they were in the public. What Bundeswehr did was not public and most of those special outfits vanished when the wall came down and were buried under classifications.

A lot of things GSG9 did, was never really investigated, in my eyes good so, it was different times, same for outfits of the BW that vanished

...yeah...but from the PLO? I didn't know that....on the direct operational side I thought it was just Al Fatah that they had contact with and only as a weapons pipeline.....I was of the oppinion that at that time IRA bomb making techniques were quite a way ahead of most others...especially with timers and timing circuitary...

Those were Apostles, not mates. I don't think Jesus even had a ship.
