They should also add mandatory drug, alcohol and tobacco testing - if you are taking taxpayers money you better not waste any money on cigs, booze or drugs!

what if they spent all that gov money ( every single cent) on appropriate items, but had friends that 'turned' them on or gave them a bottle or illicit drug for christmas/birthday/whatever...

That's OK. And bombing other countries and the billions that costs is OK. But feeding hungry people is wrong!

bombing them is ok, it's the monies used for rebuilding afterward that should be used for domestic homelessness

They already tried that before in florida? I think. Only a small percentage tested positive. The tests themselves are costly. Bottom line is that it cost more to test than to just give the 5% or so of people that would test positive benefits.

If they have friends like that then maybe they should ask them to hook them up with a job.

    Total BS.
Test costs $70-$150. Finding 1 in 10 would pay for itself via savings in health insurance, rent assistance and food stamps.

c'mon, really... so everyone that you ever gave a gift to, should also be employed by you...

we're speaking about drug testing recipients of gov assistance, and you honestly think that not one person in their neighborhood, friend or family circle, ever offered them a drink or a smoke... and that wouldn't mean they abused the system!!!

Nicotine leaves your system in 3-4 days, alcohol within a day.
A 5 day warning of upcoming test would be enough to get them to stop smoking and drinking, even temporarily. If they can’t then they shouldn’t be eligible for taxpayer aid.

that still wouldn't prove that they used gov monies for that stuff, they may well be addicted to drugs/alcohol/tobacco, but that in and of itself isn't proof of fraud nor misuse of funds...

yeah, i know, it's prolly why they're on assistance cause they can't hold a job... and if that can be proved, then bounce them off the gravy train...

Casual drinks are ok, but if you are on government assistance and caught with ANY illegal drug in your system you should be kicked out of the program, period!!
If you are taking taxpayers money you should not be able to sit at home and get high!!

Feeding able bodied adults who won't work takes food away from those who are truly in need.

Why don't you want to feed more of the truly needy?

Which soup kitchens and food drives do you volunteer at?

Exactly! If you have arms and legs and are younger than 60 and don’t have a disability or dependents then there is no reason why you cannot work. People like that should have a strict limit, say up to a year after unemployment ends. After the limit expires - sorry, but go live on the streets.

    I only volunteered until I was 18.

Now I just pay 50 a month, and go to the same food bank to see what they are buying with the money.

It was only a decade or so ago that I was living on 10 bucks a week for food, in california.

50 bucks a month can go a LONG way.

and many of those 'banks' are not subsidized by our government...

i routinely donate food items to the local banks here...

i gave up donating cash money a few decades ago... no way to know where it went, as for the food, it either went in someone's belly or the garbage can, i'm kool with it being either one...

Good charities are both more efficient and not govt funded.

I still get gift cards for christmas donations, but its because I don't want to go buy toys.

It's like the crack dealer that gives it away till people are hooked, Obama gave money away till folks were dependent and would vote for the guy with the handouts.

I was ejected from the back of a 28,000 LB Armored Car (Money Truck) during an vehicle accident and the back wheels ran over my foot an leg. That was in 1994, after many surgeries and nerve blocks in my back I was working again in 1995 and have worked almost continuously since then. After taking time off to be a family members full time care giver, my current employer hired me at age 51....part time. I out worked the youngins (everybody get a trophy) crowd 2 to 1. It didn't take them long to give me the next full time opening ahead of some lazy butts who had been there longer. If I can do it......anyone can.

That must be it. I’m sure there are ALOT of welfare recipients that really care about their diet and overall health enough to WANT to buy nutritious foods but unfortunately they aren’t given enough free money. Why don’t we give them high end exercise equipment also?
