perhaps 60 for a separate vote on a bill to dump the military clause but I suspect a good case can be made that this is part of the confirmation process and does not require 60. It's all about competence. Competent leadership uses the rules to get around obstruction, or changes the rules as needed...Ask Dirty Harry.

The stronger our military and its leadership the fewer.

When war is engaged yes.....DUH. You didn't enjoy the fact Obama enjoyed killing OBL and watching his claiming credit for it?

You think the more proper military leader to lead our forces against ISIS in Mosul to remove those barbarians who are committing mass murders and torture and attrocities is the one who would be sad about killing our enemies and reluctant to do so?

Ad the left has been trying to do for decades now? Why do you believe he will continue that?

Actually it is called reality as opposed to bromides and platitudes.

He is not named Mad Dog.

But as I have learned the Democrats can filibuster the wavier or change in that law. That being said I am hearing he is getting some Democrat support.

For the first time in almost sixteen years, both Russian Federation President, Vladimir Putin, and Russia's equivalent of "Secretary of Defense" (Russian Minister of Defence), Sergey Shoygu will see an American Secretary of Defense who is intelligent, honorable, experienced, and -- COMPETENT.

This is so very important! The Russians have made huge advances and improvements in their own military's organization, capabilities, and weaponry since Vladimir Putin took over roughly 16 years ago. But there have been numerous indications that the Russians were perplexed, puzzled, and at at times, astonished and amused at some of the peculiar antics they've seen in both "W" Bush and Obama administrations. Few things are more unsettling and disruptive than having to make contingency plans around a potential adversary who you think might now be, uh, mentally unbalanced.

Going forward, we can count on both the Russian Federation and China to continue to do exactly what each country feels is in its own best vital interests, but at least now they can have the confidence of knowing that the United States also has a Secretary of Defense who is worthy in every way of holding that position, and who will always do what is in our own best interests, too!

[IMG]. "Finally! Much better to deal with another REAL first-class military professional!"

Why is it every time the Green Berets find themselves in a pile of (*)(*)(*)(*) like at Leng Vei they expect the Marine Corps to come to their rescue ? The Marine Corps isn't the U.S. Cavalry.

    FYI: Nobody was left behind.

It was November 10th during the 1980's at the height of the Cold War. Some where in the Mediterranean Sea a U.S. Navy amphibious assault ship with a Marine MEU aboard crossed paths with a Soviet warship.

Over a thousand U.S. Marines and sailors lined the deck of the ship to observe the Soviet warship. What they saw was Soviet sailors standing at attention along the deck from bow to stern while the Soviet warship dipped it's colors in honor of November 10th, the U.S. Marine Corps birthday.

To make the waiver vote part of the confirmation process, all that needs to happen is for the Leader to declare it so.

I'm here because Mattis is a poor choice among poor choices the president elect is making. He's made a living off of duping the feeble minded and is proving that now through his cabinet picks. It's obvious for anyone to see the goldman insider for commerce, or the disgraced general who was ignobly fired for sec def. I really do wish you'd speak to the cabinet picks, because they are more important than you spouting off with your 3rd grade level grammar about some slight you perceived.

Like Trump university and his army of bankruptcy lawyers? How about a good accountant who made sure drumpy didn't pay taxes for more than a decade?
Again, I wonder what about the 1%, silver spoon, draft dodging coward who has never worked a hard day in his life makes you think he has backbone? It's truly mesmerizing to see middle class people find a way to identify with a trust fund billionaire who's never had to work a day in his life.

No, like the morons in the rust belt realizing that not only did their crappy manufacturing jobs not come back, the republicans got rid of their medicare and social security, too. It'll be a sobering look back on how trump duped so many people.

To be fair, a lot of brainwashing goes on in the military. When I got out of the Army, I felt a hatred for civilians who I felt didn't appreciate what the military did for them. The, I went to college and stopped being an uneducated, ignorant fool. A lot of people never go through that type of enlightenment.

    They're both long dead.

Tell your grandkids you were there when the great President Trump was voted in.

Sorry, but I have personal experience with this one. I'm sure on the whole the Marines are fine. Personally, I was in fallujah in 2004 with 2/2 infantry and we had to pull the marines out the fire a number of times. Like I said, I only have my anecdotal experience, but the marines there lacked speed and ferocity.

Well, we know he isn't draining the swamp like he promised. He's filling it with wall street types and science deniers. Looks like you were fooled.

I'm sorry, since we're talking about cowardice, where did you serve? I've found that those who talk the toughest about war and foreign policy have usually never served a day in their life. It's almost as if their insecurity about never actually serving is manifested in their tough talk about war and foreign policy.

Someone watches the lame stream liberal media. Cause, you know, those guys have proven how credible they are over the past year. I challenge you to find 1 single Marine with a negative opinion of Mad Dog. I'll wait.

Those generals still have thier jobs during peace time. What you think that when there isn't a war the military just shuts down and turns off until the next one?

I found long ago that the use of phrases like 'science denier' generally means one is simply using a talking point and hoping the reader is mind dead enough to accept the premise. Unless you are an actual scientist, you are just regurgitating political pablum created to produce a political end.

    - - - Updated - - -

I'm a military retiree and have found that the world is full of folk who have opinions verging on demands about the use of our military that seem to disappear when administrations change.

If IF Trump is the warmonger you think he is (or perhaps you hope he is) then General Mattis is exactly the person I would want to counter a warmongering president.

Malcolm might be a lot of things but he is no fool. We are watching carefully, as is the rest of the world. I have to say there are a lot of very worried world leaders right now and there are a lot of international discussions going on.
