I don't care what services we provide, exported goods is the only thing. They can do all the services they want in Canada. I don't care if they come here for medical procedures. And fine Canada can do without us and we can do without Canada and what we both can't do we will pay a premium tarrif added.

    Non sequitur. You're anti-trade and that's a mistake.

You may not care about services, but they're an important part of what we produce.
We got to Canada for medical procedures, too. Is that okay with you?

Many services we produce here and make them available across internstional borders.
Why would you put a tariff on something we can't produce but need?

What can't we produce? And you put tariffs on "weak" points in the onters economy. And again tariffs are not needed forever they are an inducement to negotiations. The tariffs are needed to bring about change. Canada, Mexico, China, what ever country- they are not going to give up any advantage willingly. How do they sell that back home. Tarrifs on imported goods in these Negotiations are the hammer. We asked China nice for 20 years and now we import 3x more than we export to them. For instance we place these tarriffs until they agree to import 100% more goods from us than they do know. They will still have almost double what they import but being able to export 112 bill more would be a boom to our economy. All we want is the same ability to sell in thier market that they have in ours. Nafta had holes, this closes some holes- not everything we wanted but at least we are going to get something.

This is before the trade talks start again

China opens rice market for US exports for first time ever
    https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2017/07/21/china-opens-rice...
Jul 21, 2017 · The world’s largest rice market is about to open up for American farmers. After years of negotiations, China has agreed to open its domestic market for U.S. rice exports for the first time ever …

For the First Time in 13 Years, US Beef Is Sent to China ...
    https://munchies.vice.com/en_us/article/payvz9/for-the-first-time...
China currently imports around $2.6 billion of beef per year, and American meat producers obviously want in on that market. Greater Omaha Packing Co. is one company that already has its food in the door .

BEIJING — China is buying American soybeans again and has cut tariffs on American cars. It is offering to keep its hands off valuable corporate secrets, while also allowing foreign investors into more industries than ever before.

Beijing hopes all of that will be enough to let President Trump declare victory and end the trade war between the two largest economies. But the offer combines some real concessions, like lower tariffs, with nebulous promises, and it will be hard to ensure that China sticks to its commitments.

That could make it a tough sell in Washington. The Trump administration’s trade hawks are still pushing for a lot more, while even the doves fret that the new promises need effective enforcement to make sure that China follows through, according to people with a detailed knowledge of American policymaking

These are minor concessions and our accepting them as part of a solution would destroy any consensus with our allies on forcing China to behave. We will be on our own if we cut a deal with China that only looks out for America. Our economic health depends on our allies supporting international rules protecting intellectual property.

Not minor and not part of our negotiations. We cut a good deal with China, those we haven't struck a deal with will be that much easier to get a deal with them. Protecting intellectual property is one of the priorities of making a deal with China. She has been stealing to many of our company's trade secrets.

It is minor in terms of the amount and part of negotiations if market access is to be permanent.
There's no evidence getting a deal with China will be easier after we get a bilateral agreement.
What makes you think other countries will continue supporting Microsoft or Apple collecting a premium for their software sold with computers worldwide? Or worse for them, vultures like Facebook violating their privacy laws? Why should Canada continue paying premium prices for prescription drugs if we're not working with them on international trade?

After WW2, we had half of world production. We're down to half that amount and dropping...

I am skeptical that tariffs or trade wars will do any good. Tariffs are paid by American consumers, but they are intended so that we pay more for American products instead that hire American workers. Also, they do hurt China because Americans will buy less Chinese and reduce exports. We have a trade deficit with China so reduced trade will hurt them more than us.

I think we should do something about their mercantilist BS and thieving. Trump seems to be angling for a bilateral agreement and he's making a short-term, good-for-Trump move that would work against our long-term interest.
