The voter has relinquished their power...but this power can be taken back anytime the voter stops being stupid...

I'll help educate you; Congressional members and presidents, etc. do not possess the education and/or knowledge to know everything. It might even be argued these are some of the dumbest people on Earth but that will be too political. The point is the impetus for very complex legislation might be rooted in information from lobbyists, corporate leaders, think-tanks, etc. but the actual legislation is created within our government...

There's only the left fighting the curse of influence costs. See, for example, the election of Ocasio-Cortez.

So you are telling all Americans don't bother to vote because it is of no value?? You should think about that some...

All voters have a vote...how they vote is an individual right...but no matter the BS we have today, all of it is rooted in voter choices. I can sum it up by saying NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE STUPIDITY OF THE VOTER...

A great many congresspeople have law degrees, and their job is to call people in to answer any questions they may have regarding legislative issues, -NOT to receive ready-to-vote-on legislation from lobbyists or corporate attorneys!

look at all those stolen elections

Funny how up to just a few years ago, the right wingers who said government has no right to impose its will on people thereby justifying the 2d Amendment, were all enthused about forcible regime change overseas. Yet, right wing government imposes its will domestically via gerrymandering and ballot suppression and that's ok to them. Funny, ain't it?

You can shout as much as you want, but the reality is unchanged: the US system is built on money. The individual voter is irrelevant, except in the radical left that you don't actually support!

no I have never owned a mega corporation, but many of them are greedy

we are not talking about mom and pop stores here, but min wage does best when it keeps up with inflation, it has not done that, that is the problem and to catch up now it will hurt mom and pop stores as it's harder to absorb all at once - so lets do it slow over the next 5 to 10 years

right now small businesses are hurting cause mega corps are shipping jobs over seas and consumers are buying products from over seas which leaves less money to be spent at mom and pop stores

Trump needs to crack down on the Microsoft's, the Telecom's, the Automobile Manufactures, ect... that ship jobs overseas - bring the jobs home

Trump should of gave those huge tax cuts to small businesses, not mega corps that ship our jobs overseas

the food Pyramid is a bad way of eating, it's bad for your health, it's a failed experiment by the Nixon Administration - it's called the S.A.D diet for a reason = and yes, Trans fat is bad for you, as is the other fake processed seed oils

If you don't vote, or you tell other people not to waste their time voting, then you should remove the US flag from your member photo...

Such a hardcore critique! My comment was an exercise in the bleedin obvious. The political system is geared by money. An oligarchy no less. Blaming the individual voter typically makes no sense.

It is true that you can buck the system, as shown by the recent radical left election victories. However, that takes a politics that you don't like. Lets take that further. Sounds like voters like you are the problem?

They and their resource people know how to write legislation. That's why they are called "legislators".
    Preamble to the Constitution
    Section 1
All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.

    Section 8
The Congress shall have Power: ....
To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever

    Amendment XV (1870)
Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    Amendment XVIII (1919)
Section 2. The Congress shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    Amendment XXIII
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    Amendment XXIV
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    Amendment XIX
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    Amendment XXIII (1961)
Section 2. The Congress and the several States shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    Amendment XXVI
Section 2. The Congress shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

It's all about legislation. This is Government 101, first day, first chapter.

Consulting with independent attorneys is fine. But taking ready-made legislation from corporate attorneys is something to object to. I know this. You know this. Everyone else knows this. So why pretend ALEC is ok? And if Democrats have the power they should pass laws against what it does.

    I do vote.
But you right wingers need to apply your "principles" on a consistent basis.

As for your avatar, well that's a typical reflection of Republicans so I won't comment on it. ;)

Two things; First, what's the point in you trying to GUESS my political party affiliation? Second, I have never been a right-winger or left-winger...I'm independent and vote for candidates from all parties. My avatar has nothing to do with politics and has everything to do with my outlook on life!

I guess you are wrong on all counts...when you remove that flag you might also consider another user name other than Mr. Truth...how about Mr. Guess...or Mr. Bias...

I am not a right winger or left winger either.

In my working years I wore a suit and tie and wore a small USA flag pin on my lapel.

    Your outlook is your business.

From the link of the link:
"They also have a similar cause: more than three decades of disinvesting in government’s capacity to keep up with skyrocketing numbers of lobbyists and policy institutes, well-organized partisans, and an increasingly complex social and legal context."

The politicians might have more time to pay attention to their business of governing if they didn't have to "dial for dollars" every day, and if they worked a bit closer to the number of hours a full-time worker works.

The article didn't support your position very well. Didn't you read it?

It's mere logic. The only voters who have bucked the gravy train are the radical left. You don't support the radical left.

You don't seem to grasp reality; Congressional members, Cabinet members, presidents and VP's, DO NOT possess the knowledge so they rely on outsourced information to ASSIST in creating legislation. It is then the job of Congress and the president to review proposed legislation, to modify or ratify proposed legislation, then to vote on it, and only then might it pass into a law. You are barking about a non-problem...
