Say what? Sharia is an alien law code to America. Using the american political system to ban an alien law code must have motivation and according to those proposing the ban, the motivation is fear of Islamic takeover at worst and increasing muslim influence at best. I always thought that there is only one law of the land in America. That which is defined/empowered by the constitution. some other code of law simply isn't constitutional. Sharia isn't religious simply religious law, it is also criminal and civil law and therefore has no jurisdiction or power in America.

AS we have already seen with some of the extreme measure taken at the state level in areas like culture and labour, there seems to be a preponderance of irrational idiots holding office.

And this is precisely how the Sharia tribunals currently operating in Britain carry out their arbitration. Both parties need to agree to arbitration, and any decisions made by the tribunal are, at all times, subject to final sanction under British Law. In their scope and application Sharia tribunals are no different to the Jewish Beth Din courts, and yet I hear no hysterical calls for banning them from the gullible idiots who can only see beheadings and mutilation...
