U.S. troops posed with body parts of Afghan bombers

Been watching "Young Soldiers" about some soldiers from The Rifles and their preparation for Afghanistan. I recall their Major Boswell reflecting on the Taliban in the field, "they're good", he was referencing their fighting ability not their character of course. It was a soldierly evaluation of the skill of an insurgent force. I think what we occupiers fail to realise is that the Taliban are fighting at home, for home and that gives a huge motivation to their ability to fight.

 

Of course they are good,they are being trained by people who have been fighting there for the last 30 years,they are more experienced about their own country than an occupying army will ever be and they have support amongst at least some of the population and the rest of the population is scared of them and they know that one day the Americans are going home but the Taliban are going nowhere as they are home.

 

The Taliban these days seem to be mostly from Pakistan. That coordinated attack a few days ago? Done by Pakistani Taliban.

 

Not really. They are Pashtuns and they come from both sides of the border,they do not recognise the border as it was set up by the British,they consider it their homeland and they are right they have lived there forever.

You wanna know what would win the war in Afghanistan? Nuking the (*)(*)(*)(*)ing place.

All this "hearts and minds" bull(*)(*)(*)(*) doesn't mean (*)(*)(*)(*). Nation building only matters when the country involved has a culture worth dealing with.

Nation building Germany and Japan made sense. Those were cultures worth dealing with and which had potential.

Afghanistan is a (*)(*)(*)(*)hole. It's worth nothing. Even bombing them was a net loss financially, since we were using bombs and missiles worth far more than the caves and tents we fired them at.

I'm not interested in breaking an enemy's will. I'm interested in killing whoever the bastards are and then leaving. Since we've been there for 10 godforsaken years, I'd prefer we leave them to whatever the Taliban has in store for them.

If they try anything again, we should just bomb them to pieces and leave again.

The whole nation building part is useless and far too expensive.

 

What created all this american rage at nations like afghan?

911 was over a decade ago. The americans who saw it, have lived, had kids and should have moved on. Or has their rage turned into bitterness and with that, how can the usa 'nation build' as you put it. When americans hate everything about the afghan country. And the afghans are not stupid, they can see the usa contempt and hate, and fight against it.

What will it achieve? alot of dead on both sides.

USA needs to calm down, maybe koffi annan can give a shoulder to cry on, but this current mood won't go anywhere.

I guess that depends on how you define genocide. I don't consider war to be genocide.

The term gets thrown around a lot, but it seems most applicable to a short list of historical events. The Holocaust is the most infamous, and the Armenian one seems most controversial these days.

I once saw a kid from afghan on the bbc. A highly intelligent lad, he sumed up usa foriegn policy in a few sentances. Also passionte to fight the invaders as he put it.

Now not this kids fault his nation was invaded, although his actions some won't agree with on this forum, if he indeed did do something drastic.
