    Okay.

Opinions can be incorrect; aren't you aware of that? (Ever dealt with certain medical professionals?)

Your view is not particularly germane to the issue, because you are taking a passive position. You seem to be under the notion that others will not fight to have the "Pledge" changed or affected in some legal way. If that IS your notion, it is clear that you would be "incorrect"... as a serious court case is underway as we speak.

    Okay.

Just so we're clear, there are multiple definitions of the word opinion...

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/opinion

See, my opinion in this matter falls under definition #2...

Your attempt to prove me wrong falls under definition #3, a very different type of opinion...

But, I digest (sorry, had to throw that in...lol)

I have yet to say that no one will attempt to get it changed...

Obviously, people have taken challenges to the Pledge of Allegiance to court, otherwise, this would not be a discussion...

My point was, and this is another opinion, because maybe someone is deeply troubled by the inclusion of the phrase "under God" that they are not required to say, no one is going to be greatly affected by this, and, as such, is a waste of time in the courts...

In any case... people (enough of them) DO CARE about this "Pledge" issue.

It is in court now; I'm hoping that the most beneficial ruling for ALL will be the outcome.

It IS worth talking about... in my "opinion". :)

Of course somebody cares about the issue...

    That much is obvious...

    I said I don't think it matters...

If people care, then it surely matters. Otherwise it would not have led to a court case. It definitely "matters".

Stop trying so hard to disprove my opinion...

I don't think it matters simply means I don't think it matters...

    That is my opinion...

There was a massive group of people that, for quite some time, believed Elvis was still alive...

    Should that matter?

    Numbers don't equal importance...

I'm just challenging it. That's all.

    I didn't say that.

This issue matters and it's going to, until they fix the problem.

Fair enough, and, my opinion is that there is nothing to be fixed...

Just don't "under God" or don't say the Pledge at all...

Nobody really ever has to say the Pledge, unless one were in the military...

    "Under God" is never mandated...

    It's so easy to fix...

I believe we should remove it from the pledge as well as our money and all else, not because we are offending us but because we are offending God.

Look at the things this Nation does now and tell me we pay any reverence to God.

So many don't know, don't understand or simply don't care that our Nation was founded on Christian values. So let us forget about our History, at least until we can get this Country back on the course that our Founding Fathers intended.

    You are wrong.

People who Naturalize as U.S. Citizens are required to say the pledge when they are given Citizenship.

It doesn't surprise me that you don't know that.

It's because they're gaining citizenship in our country, and one should be required to pledge allegiance to a country that they want to be a citizen of...

    No big deal really...

Other than that, nobody is required to say it...

So now you admit "allegiance" is important to Citizenship, but won't recognize the allegiances one is given at Birth by your parents, and hence the term "Natural Born Citizen"?!?!?!?!?!?

    Holy God...

How could I have forgotten the allegiance I swore immediately at birth as my umbilical cord was being cut!?!?!?!?!?

Do you realize how ridiculous this sounds?

Nice attempt at derailing the thread though...

As most people understand we are "given" Citizenship, at Birth, by our Parents.

But I am not surprised you don't understand that. You seem to think it comes from the "soil", I guess.

As for this thread, again, I believe we should do away with any reference to God because it is WE who have lost our way, not God.

I was simply pointing out that you seem to understand how allegiance works with Citizenship here, but didn't seem to in another Thread...

I find that interesting that your understanding seems to improve, depending on the Subject being discussed.

That's the only reason I brought it up. And I didn't say anything about Obama, you did. I was simply pointing out that you now seem to understand how allegiance affects Citizenship.

Again, I believe we should remove God from any Government reference simply because it is "We the People" that have lost sight of God.

Yep. That may be an option for some. But if you are going to have a "Pledge" that is supposedly written for ALL, then that is the way it should be period.

We cannot pretend that the way something is worded and meant to represent ALL Americans ("...one nation, with liberty and justice for all..."), and is mandated to be said DAILY in America's schools should merely be opted out of.

It is amazing to me that we act as though teaching kids about other important things (such as human sexuality) is going to damage their little minds (just consider not being able to even 'mention' homosexuality in TN schools).

We've got to stop pretending that we are NOT catering to 'religion' here in America. And it won't stop until one or MANY laws literally goes after "Christianity" or other religion in this society. But be certain... those who favor the promotion of religion by Government (to any degree), will have the table turned on them; either by direct enforcement of proper restrictions or considerations of certain 'minority' religious beliefs, in light of what they "ignore" or want promoted/backed concerning their own favored beliefs.

Having kids say or listen a "Pledge" which refers to "God", in a school/classroom, is a form of indoctrination and it is an 'exclusive' (as opposed to inclusive) practice. There is no good reason to subject families that DO NOT believe in God to that; and it ultimately endangers/erodes the civil rights of all Americans.

I understand exactly how it works...

A grown person swears allegiance to a country to obtain citizenship...

A child inherits from a parent or parents, depending on the citizenship laws where the child was born...

It's a shame you don't understand how it works...

And you certainly did try to make the thread about Obama...

You're familiar with the term "imply" correct?

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/imply

    See how that works???

    Anyway, stop trying to derail...

God has been intimately tied with this country since its founding. To exile God is against the traditions which made this country great and what our Founders established.

You are the one who continues to bring up Obama in this thread...

I simply pointed out that you seem to understand what allegiance means, only when it suits your argument.

By the way, "Natural Law" doesn't change from Country to Country, no matter how much you wish it did.

Constitutionally, what you say is only true as it relates to "individuals". There is no reason or way that "Government" should or must promote religion of a "God" of any sort.

Anything else has always been questioned or challenged in our courts, just as this "Pledge" issue is being challenged.

You are the one calling for some "exile" of what you refer to as "God"; I say your claim is LUDICROUS overall. No one has called for ripping some "God" away from the people in this country (though I'm certain some would like to).

And yet the uber secularist push for the exile of God is a new phenomenon of the recent decades. Our Founders, while they were against a national, government ran religion, were still men of God and understood that He didn't have to be exiled nor that it was some "4-letter word" to say his name in a political setting. From our very first founding document, they recognized the Creator or God. Many state constitutions even recognize God or some kind of Supreme Being.

The oaths of public office as well as military service swears an oath to God, binding his word.

I'm not calling for the exile of God, I'm saying its occurring and I get this from my observation of the banning of religious display from public view.
