Even Obama opposed it - according to his autobiography.

The only people who harmed them were their parents.

    It's 100% factual.

Not funding the federal government over illegal immigration = fact

Illegal immigration unrelated to federal budget = fact

One could equally say that the reason for the shutdown was that the President reneged on his commitment to agree to anything that "people in the room" came up with.
The point is that White House staff are not supposed to engage in political activities. The President and V-P, yes. But not anyone else.

That message was overtly political. It would be absolutely fine for the President to make that his own personal v-m message, but not for WH staff to make it the WH official message.

In 2006 Barack Obama said he became angry when Mexican flags were flown at pro illegal immigration demonstrations.
And he said it was frustrating when the people he encountered only spoke Spanish.

    Barry Obama...racist nativist!

What they came up with is a) a separate issue than funding the government of US citizens and b) was complete **** regardless.

But please, continue refusing to fund the government of US citizens so liberals can defend who's more important to them: illegal aliens.

Let's say for a moment you are right. The purpose of the Hatch Act is to prevent federal employees from engaging in political activities.
The WH voicemail contravenes that prohibition. Even if you agree with the message.

I am right, but I will allow you to move the goalposts and sidestep being wrong so that you can be wrong about something else.

No, the WH voicemail was dictated by a representative of the POTUS, who is clearly immune from the Hatch Act.

Anything else you'd like to be wrong about today, just let me know.

POTUS and VP are exempted. Their staff are not.

Please just stop using really dumb arguments like that.

If the POTUS directed the damn voicemail and his employee complied with that, then the employee was not violating the Hatch Act.

Why do you want to persist in this ridiculous argument?

It is not a ridiculous argument. It is the purpose of the Hatch Act.

The statute says POTUS and VP are exempted. It does not talk about their staff. The definition of "employee" in the legislation makes it clear that their staffs are not exempted.

It isn't a hanging offence. Just something that the WH should be careful not to repeat in the future.

    That's right.

If their staff, of their own volition, violate the Hatch Act then they are guilty. If they perform a function as directed by their POTUS, they are acting under his authority.

    You have zero argument here.

Well I will be interested to see you identify the section of the legislation that exempts not only POTUS and VP, but also "employees acting under their authority".

Feel free to run around telling whoever will listen to you about it if you want.

Not even the idiots at Morning Joe are advancing that argument buy hey, it takes all kinds.

    Democrats declare victory, end shutdown

Congratulations Democrats for shutting down the government.

That really showed Americans how much the federal government means to them.

I'm told by plugged-in D source that the CR is "good to go" in the Senate, says the caucus has been acutely aware of the "mixed polling" on who takes the blame.

    9:10 AM - Jan 22, 2018

Elaina Plott of Atlantic Monthly tweeted just before passage of the Continuing Resolution that keeps the government alive:
I'm told by plugged-in D source that the CR is "good to go" in the Senate, says the caucus has been acutely aware of the "mixed polling" on who takes the blame.By mixed polling, she means the tactic played like an Acme bomb in the hands of Wile E. Coyote.

It's as if the Democratic Party asked the Cleveland Browns coaching staff to devise their game plan.

President Trump spent the weekend laughing.

Popcorn manufacturers made a bundle off Trump fans watching this trainwreck play out on cable TV.
