The problem is, when you have rigid, uncompromising views and positions on what is good for the COUNTRY, nothing gets done.

Which is bad for the COUNTRY.

And why we have $15 trillion in debt.

We need leaders who will COMPROMISE to get it done. For the good of the COUNTRY.

If tax revenue collections were just the same proportion of GDP as they were in 2000 befroe the Bush and Stimulus tax cuts, revenues in 2010 would have been about $800 billion greater.

    That would really help.

Early on, I thought that Obama would likely not be elected for a second term.

I no longer think that way, unfortunately.

    *sigh*

False conservative propaganda we've seen regurgitated on this board countless times.

It would not pay off our debt, but it would eliminate the deficits and begin reducing the debt.

According to the most recent data from the CBO, just the richest 1% alone take 18% of gross income (it may be higher now). Gross national income is $13 trillion. 18% of $13 trillion is 2.34 trillion in income the top 1% take.

They currently pay an effective tax rate of about 21%. 21% of $2.34 billion is $491 billion they pay in total federal taxes. That leaves $1.85 trillion left in untaxed income, more than enough to cover the federal deficit.

Just from the top 1% alone. Expand it to the top 10% and its easy.

Without cutting spending a dime, which they do need to trim.

Source data: http://www.cbo.gov/doc.cfm?index=8885, historical budget data.

And we've seen twice now the disaster caused by tax cuts resulting in exploding deficits without any improvement ine the economy.

It hasn't worked, and it won't

So why are Republicans going back to the same old tax cut well over and over?

The answer is obvious, isn't it?

..and as busted as you are, you would rather support your neighbour than yourself.

We are SO grateful that we can live in luxury on the dollars that you don't have to resolve your busted economy.

Depends a lot on the economy.

Which is why our conservative friends here try so mightily to convice us that

more than two years of steady economic growth, 3.6 million new jobs created by the private sector, stock markets up almost 100% from their recession lows, and the unemployment rate falling from above 10% to 8.3% really means the economy is doing worse than when Obama took office.

    Somebody else will be elected.

    We will all survive.

There will be policies that I disagree with and policies that I agree with.

There will be stalemate in Congress as Democrats copy Republicans who copied Democrats by stopping every Republican proposal in the Senate.

The new President's nominees to the judiciary and other appointed posts will be blocked by Democrats, just as Republicans are doing right now to Obama's appointee's.

The new President will emulate Obama and do as much by executive authority as he can to get around the legislative impasse.

It only takes rational thinking and a determination to fix problems rather than scoring political points. Then the problems get fixed in months, not years.

And in 2007, the USA was doing as well as its ever done. My math says that was NOT 30 years ago. Loony liberal math, of course, differs.

In 2007, the US was pinned down in two wars and standing on the edge of the precipice. It still had deficits in the 1/2 billion range if the costs of the wars were included.

The US in 2007 was very unhealthy. 6 years of mismanagement, lack of attention to regulation, and unbalanced budgets were coming to a tipping point. The disease had just not taken its toll yet.

If you weren't so quick to attempt at points scoring instead of claiming that I am, you would see from previous threads which you have obviously not read, that a reference was made to the Carter years and those subsequent. It is to that I was responding, so if you want rationality, do your research first.

I wonder if Americans, all Americans, realise how utterly stupid they make themselves by claiming that anything they don't agree with must have originated from a liberal mind, as if those who claim it make any sense with their own lopsided posts.

I really don't care where or how you form your erroneous opinions. When I start telling you how to run Canada, I'll start paying attention to your ideas about the USA.

You are obviously bothered by mine but not by those of your compatriots. I wonder why? Could it be because of that unlimited supply of propaganda that is so prevalent in the US media?

And no! I won't be posting any examples. I doubt you would acknowledge them when they stare you in the face.

How odd...the financial disaster seems to have been caused by people who avoided personal responsibility and rewarded failure...:reading:...before Obama came into power.

If the next President is Romney my guess is that there will not be a huge change and I don't think it will be a disaster (still prefer Obama). Any of the other GOP choices would be very bad for USA. I also think Obama will be reelected. 2016 is too far in the future for me to guess what will happen then.

How expected,,,,,,,that you have been totally brainwashed to believe lies that even rudimentary research would prove false. But that's the story of liberalism.

Didn't rudimentary research indicate there were no WMD's in Iraq?
Didn't the Bush administration choose not to believe it?

Who is attempting to brainwash who?

And, the old 'liberalism' dig. It doesn't work anymore. It merely shows up people who believe one thing but write an opposite view.

I see the economy crashing and burning if Obama is not elected again. Gingrich and Santorum want a bigger military costing billions if not trillions instead of a smarter military costing much less. They both want to attack Iran, stay in Iraq and Afghanistan and have said as much. How much will Gas cost then?

Besides war, they're focus will be on abortion, religion, and the rights of pregnant women.

It makes me sick thinking about it.
