This is an honest question and I want you to think about it REALLY hard. And I mean taking a good fluorescent light bulb to yourself to see every knick, cut, scratch, bruise, pimple, boil, scrape and rash since birth to assess what you really do when you step into the booth. What I mean by 'what do you vote with', it's in essence asking you what forms your decision and why do you go with one candidate over the other. I've several options, but still left 'other' and you can explain what you mean in a post.
I used to vote for the person least likely to inflict harm. Next time I'll probably continue in that vein by voting for anyone that isn't batsh!t loony and/or dedicated to some agenda guaranteed to help turn the place into Detroit. [Edit: Better yet, maybe someday I'll actually get to vote for someone that isn't a lying sack of (*)(*)(*)(*).]
The only choice I ever have is "the lesser evil", because there is never anyone in any political party who represents me or what I want. I'm probably going to change my party affiliation to Libertarian, though, even though that means throwing my vote away forever.... If it doesn't make any difference, then why go on voting for RINO's? They make me want to puke almost as much as hyperliberal Socialists....
So far, this is really telling. And people wonder why we're dealing with the (*)(*)(*)(*) we are... Let's see how this poll plays out over time... I bet lesser evil dominates all other options. The funny thing is, you vote for lesser evil, you're still voting for evil. So do you want to vote for the gremlin or the devil? Both suck ass....
Lately I haven't been given much of a choice. McCain, Paul, Romney... At the time of Paul/McCain, I felt that a vote for Paul would be a wasted vote, but I've come to realize that it doesn't matter. McCain & Romney are both RINOs and my vote is wasted either way. If I had a good choice, my vote would be based on economics, social policies and the constitution. Though, anyone who would actually read, abide by and uphold the Constitution has my vote. Though, Presidents continue to lie about "upholding" it, even though they swear to under oath... so how're you supposed to believe anyone nowadays? Time for a revolution, if you ask me. Screw the electoral system, which is busted anyway.

I vote for the choice that best fits my desires for what I want to happen. I know the choice isn't perfect, but it is a choice. So I don't bemoan the fact that I have less than perfect candidates to select from. I am happy I get to select.
I usually vote the party i agree the most ideologically , under special circumstances i vote the party i agree the most policy wise .
I voted other - since for me its who gives me the most stuff coming in for the least commitment aka work on my end going out so I usually end up voting for Progressive Democrats as far as I can.
In off-year elections, I mostly vote against the incumbent, hoping against hope that maybe the next person will do a better job. In the prez race, I really don't think it makes much of a difference lately, although if he decided to run I'd vote for Colin Powell, 2 or 3 times. Enjoy!
Government is evil....That's why the Founders did their best to hamstring it and make it answerable to the people. It is no revelation that we vote for the lesser of the evils.
I think the religious on this site are a little deceptive or they refuse to vote on this poll. There is only one reason that the moron known as George W. Bush was elected two times and it is because he was a jesus lover. I watched my own naive jesus loving relatives vote twice for that idiot for the jesus reason only! It is not suprising to me as I have been lied to and discriminated against more from the jesus lovers than the sex, drugs, and Rock-n-Roll crowd.
My religious beliefs play a huge part in who I vote for. For example, the Catholic Church is officially against abortion and gay marriage. Therefore, I am against gay marriage and abortion. And in turn, I will not vote for someone who is for legalized abortion or gay marriage.
The cathloic church is supposed to be " officially " against pedophile but as we can see this hasn't been possible for them all to live up to. It's very hypocritical of this institution to even begin to act as some sort of authority on the standard of what is "morally" correct and what isn't when it's impossible for their own to live up to the standard they themselves set. My advice is quit listening to these hypocrites, start thinking for yourself, and vote with common sense.
The Catholic Church is not hypocritical at all. The persons who committed the evil acts are the ones responsible and while the Church did not handle the issue very well in some instances, the Church has apologized for those times in which she did not handle the issues well. That said, the Church is improving and has taken steps to prevent pedophiles from becoming priests in the future. Simply voting against the republican, is always the 'more correct' choice. You can always count on them to be on the wrong side of every important issue, and to cater exclusively to the super wealthy so, the choice is never that tough.

I vote against the guy who mouths the largest number of platitudes, clichés, banalities, and bromides. As it turns out, it's usually the guy from the Republican Party. When I hear that pap, I immediately think "this guy's got nothing and neither do the people willing to listen to him."
I take two hits of acid, wait one hour, smoke a bowl of wahbuhdeedoo, and walk into the booth (sort of) and see what happens.
It's usually not that hard, there's generally a clear choice in the top of the ballot. At the bottom of the ballot or in off year elections is where you have to attend debates, and talk to the candidates to feel them out. I spoke with a few candidates for city council, and saw them all in the debate, and every one had an identical position on nearly every issue, and when they differed it was only by a nuance. Both Mayoral were identical on the issues too. It really came down a gut feel. Now in the presidential election it wasn't close, I mean, Romney was governor here, he is incapable of governing. Obama may not be FDR, but he's done a decent job for the most part. Elizabeth Warren or Scott Brown, puh-leeeeez don't go there, but I voted for the smartest candidate, with the best policies.
Mostly with liberty in mind. But I'm not surprised anymore that people assume that means I'm a Democrat. The difference is that for me liberty is all encompassing, not one or two issues/election.
