Seems like if you were really serious about it you would just steal the little box with the ballots and chip.

Too bad if you don't like it. Oregon sends out ballots to every registered voter, and there are NO physical polling places. It's ALL by mail for 22 years now.

There are always people comprising a significant portion of registered voters who will either forget to ask for a ballot, have a conflict that stops them from going to vote at polls, or for some other reason just won't vote. Mailing ballots to every registered voter eliminates much of that and consequently the Oregon voter turnout runs from about 75% to 82%. And before you dare think that percentage reflects crime, our Republicans in our state House and Senate have tried for 22 years to find an excuse to end our vote-by-mail system and they have always failed miserably to find fraud or other election crimes committed by voters which were capable of affecting the outcome of an election.

Well I have to say, if indeed the states which are sending unsolicited ballots, also sent them back in 2016, then he has nothing to complain about. However, is this actually the case? Some responses in this thread seem to say that.

So Oregon also sent out ballots to every registered voter in 2016?

    This is indeed possible.

In which case they can request a ballot - which they could forget to do, so really you're just left with your above point about them forgetting.

How the hell would sending them a ballot make them vote if they "just won't vote?" I assume that you're talking about the sort of person who is against voting.

What is the argument that people make connecting the voter turnout percentage and crime?

It's really very simple - if people want a ballot, they can request one. So then why does a ballot need to be sent out to every address in the database?

So then why didn't Republicans come out against mail-in voting in past elections?

What difference does it make to voting if someone is a registered Democrat or a registered Republican?

Yeah, for people to vote Democrat, right?

Are you promoting a conspiracy theory?

Yeah, but how does 'wanting to vote', mean that you 'don't want to vote in person and so want to automatically be sent a ballot?'

In my country there is a box you can tick in the household registration form that is posted every year or two asking if you would like to vote by mail. I think you can also ask to vote via the internet but not sure

First of all, yes, it is certainly absolutely INSANE that your election day is a week day! Here in Australia, we are sensible, and so our election day is a Saturday. However, isn't this what early voting is for, which presumably includes early voting in person as well as mail-in?

Just that you can "mail it in, drop it off at a drop box, or go vote in person" WITHOUT every registered voter getting a ballot. I don't see the connection. Also, if it was such a good system, then why doesn't even a quarter of the states do it?

Well I didn't think that it was worth looking it up, because I thought that it was obvious that there are NO states which don't allow mail-in voting.

Only for people who register AFTER the decision was made, where presumably it would be made clear to them during the registration process that they would be mailed a ballot. Even then, it's not REALLY a "request." It's more of a consequence of registering. They may know that being sent a ballot will be a waste of paper and money because they intend to vote in person. As for people who registered BEFORE the decision was made, there's NO WAY that it could be considered as a request!

So your country shouldn't have the problem that the US has, with outdated voter rolls, leading to ballots being sent to dead people!

Well then Trump and the Republicans have nothing to complain about, other than the states which are sending out unsolicited ballots for the first time, which wouldn't seem to make a significant difference. They can argue that the states which have done it in the past should not do it for this election, but that's a hard argument to make if they didn't make the same argument in 2016, which as far as I know, they didn't.

I'm talking about voter rolls which have information which is DECADES old! Whereas your country will have a maximum of one year's worth of wrong info.

What do you mean PROMOTING mail-in voting only? You mean if your state is DOING mail-in voting only?

Yep. But you won't need to if you already have one.
