White privilege and I get why so many here have problems with it

both whites and blacks are effected by bad cops, if you want to try to pretend whites are not, that is on you - this is an issue both sides should be able to agree on and both want fixed

 

I agree - they are. But if this is your contribution to a white privilege thread, I think you need a gut check.

 

It could be his attempt to make white people understand that they shouldn't be against the reforms just because blacks will benefit the most but that whites too will benefit. There is a segment of our society who believes that the blacks deserve what they are getting from the police and perhaps if they realize that they too could benefit maybe there'll be less resistance.

 

Could be - but I read it as an 'All Lives Matter' contribution.

 

if you want to attack all white people, claiming they have white privilege, have at it, not helping imo

 

all lives do matter, that includes blacks and whites - we are all Americans, we rise and fall together

people like Trump want to divide us, don't let them win

bad cops, could be racist, could just be a dick of a cop, we see too much of this

I keep also seeing cops taz people, then ask them to do something, but their muscles do not work due to being tazed, so they taz them again and again

these are either stupid cops, racists cops or just plain mean cops

 

If the cops lay hands on you, start yelling, "I am complying, don't hurt me," and do that over and over.

That will be on their audios and visuals, and they can't scrub them without scrubbing their yelling, "Stop resisting."

At what point have I attacked white people? This is a discussion about a reality in our society. If you don't see it or believe it, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And it doesn't make white people the villain - in most cases - it exists without their participation whatsoever.

are there white people that hire their white friends, sure
same as black people that hire their black friends

most of us do not know rich people in high places, that goes for blacks and whites alike - rich kids have rich privilege

 

Unfortunately, you are correct, and I think that is what raises people's hackles the most. The presumptive blanket accusation, without knowing a thing about the individual.

 

You usually aren't the "but what about" kind of poster... It opens you up to other examples where say police tased, and killed rich white kids and nobody looted or rioted.... Was that because it was a rich white kid and the collective just clapped and cheered? I suspect it is...

 

I thought the irony was folks asserting "white privilege" in the first place.... If there is this thing called privilege, and white folks enjoy it, why do white folks get killed by police more than any other demographic and for less violent crimes?

 

The irony here is that Milwaukee isn't the richest of cities. One hopes that since the nice BB player doesn't need the money, he won't ask for any.

 

Is the bolded part an attack, or just a statement of fact. Same thing with white privilege - not an attack, just a statement of fact. Those who take offence to it are, generally, those who don't want to admit it or can't see it.

the biggest "privilege" factor is wealth, rich people for the most part have more privilege, though I would not want some rich parents as I do not think it always means better lives

And rightly so, he thought the man was going for a weapon and his belief was justified.

 

Actually it was a false belief and not justified, anyone watching the video could see this cop was escalating a situation that did not need to be escalated

 

When you have a gun at your head, you've committed no crime and someone starts a shouting game of Simon says and the penalty for a mistake is death there's a serious problem.
Those two cops should have gone to prison.

 

So what? By far, we already know who commits the crimes, by demographics. And as a function of total interactions with police, the statistics are clear here. Your zoom out is meaningless. The facts don't support you here.

 

It was a reasonably held belief and perfectly justified, anyone watching the video could see this was entirely the fault of the person shot for his incredible stupidity, I feel sorry for this poor officer. But what this vid does show is that race is irrelevant in the actions of police in such situations.
