Same reason the people who describe themselves as MAGA are fiercely in favor of Russia and North Korea.

People who think Israel is going overboard with the Gaza campaign don't support Hamas or Iran, they just oppose the violence. But then again, you already knew that.

There is a strong odor of strawman in this thread.

I do not understand people that support the horrendous things Hamas has done

but I also do not understand those that support the starving and needless killing of innocent Gaza citizens

I suppose it depends. Before answering I need a little clarification.

Is that terrorist organization an occupying force and hated by the populous, or were they voted into power by its citizens and generally enjoy the people's support for their barbarous actions?

I am progressive and I can tell no progressive support Hamas. They just want Palestinian to be safe.

But can you tell me what is the difference between Hamas and Palestinian?

Here is a simple fact. Hamas is a political party in Gaza with 40% support of Palestinian. Hamas is the head of Palestinian government in Gaza.

This chart is interesting. When I look at this chart , I just have one simple question “ Palestinian, why the f%% you start fight with a country you have ZERO chance winning”. No wonder Palestinian are getting killed, Palestinian going to war with pipe bombs and home made rockets while Israeli Army using US made lesser guided missile.

You want peace, then tell Palestinian to stop firing rockets toward Jerusalem.

Maybe you should have tried asking first "Why are people who describe themselves as "Conservatives" or "MAGAs" in favor of Hitler and Nazism?"

The last parliamentary elections in Gaza were held in 2006 and they were elected with a minority (44%).
Hamas started murdering opposition party members the following year

They have not allowed elections since.

Since you have clarification, feel free to answer

So the hypothetical being debated DOES involve an elected government. Interesting.

Being that Hamas civilian bombings have been an almost daily occurrence since 2006. What have the Palestinian people done to get rid of them as their leaders during all of this time? Have they made ANY attempt? Do the Palestinian people show support for Hamas' barbarous actions?

These are all very relevant when deciding where to put one's support.

So you don’t care that the majority didn’t vote for this
You don’t care that Hamas is killing opposition but instead blame the people for the actions of a terrorist organization and shrug at their genocide

    Not surprising

I don't care that Hamas is killing opposition? Huh? What do you mean?

Of course I care that they have targeted civilians without a legitimate military objective on an almost daily basis for the last 20 years. I cannot fathom how or why the Palestinians have not rioted in protest.

For the same reason they don’t riot in N Korea — they would be killed

Not only do you not have a historical record that would prove that assertion, a far more accurate and apropos comparator would be the people of Iran because it involves the exact same religious zealotry.

I recall many large scale uprisings against the terrorist Mullahs in Iran despite the dangers. To my knowledge, there have not been any comparable actions among Palestinians. Perhaps I this is an oversight on my part and you would be kind enough to point me to this type of uprising among the Palestinian people?

Lining up with those who want Hamas to have a cease fire before the leaders of that organization are captured or killed is like lining up the Nazi Party before the end of World War II. If Hamas had been in existence during World War II, it would have allied with Hitler.

That's a pretty weak attempt at trying to appear impartial.

You couldn't even bring yourself to condemn Israeli actions on any account. Smh.

Not true. Israel has Christians, Muslims, atheists and gay people. The other side has already won their religious was and has already cleansed their land of these people.

Yeah, and when someone criticizes Israel they're called "ANTI-GAY-ETIC"

Israel is fighting to claim their "historical homeland" declared as such by their religious books.
HAMAS is fighting to remove the infidel invader in THEIR homeland in defense of THEIR religious books.

It is clear if you choose to look.

Palestinian thinks they are like David? That’s fine. In that case the world should not condemn Israel at all. Palestinian ( like David) chose to fight with Israel ( Goliath). Let them fight and see who wins. As an American we will send our best weapon to Goliath.

Almost exactly what they are doing. unfortunately when your surgical tools machine guns and 250 lb bombs and your opponent insists on using their own people as fortifications, surgery tends to get really messy.

Ask a conservative that question. I am definitely not conservative. And it is not a strawman post. As a lefty I want to know what's left-wing about torture and rape. Or denigration of female or LBGTQIA+ rights.

This is what is mostly a strawman:

The vast vast majority of people who call themselves liberal or progressive do not favor Hamas.
