Why did Obama just send our oldest active duty warship to the Persian gulf?

Dude, are you an American or an enemy sympathizer?

No one is trying to "Start a war" with Iran. We're simply trying to enforce the international law.

Why do you have a problem with enforcement of the law??

Iran is a rogue nation that must be brought to heel and is being pressured by the entire international community and yet everyone keeps trying to put this 100% on the USA and ignores the "international" part of it all.

"Doesn't work", would, I think, be more appropriate.

Just because something has always been so does not mean that it ought to always be so. For the longest time, human beings took a (*)(*)(*)(*) in the woods, until someone deigned to dig a ditch. Change can and does happen.

There's no particular need for us to care, except to feed our power fetish. We could buy oil from anyone. We only have a desire to interfere because access isn't enough for us--we've got an irrational desire to try to control other people's access too. It costs us far more than we gain by doing so.

Iran would be wiped off the map by the retaliatory strike. They're not willing to sacrifice themselves to destroy Israel. Remember; Iran is a holy land in Shia Islam. Letting it be turned to glass by nuclear weapons would not be serving either their secular or their religious goals.

Ummm.. its not *just* the USA and Israel. The entire international community save Russia/China(big surprise there) is against Iran "becoming a regional superpower" including much of the Middle East.

It's too bad the USS Enterprise isn't loaded with a million illegal aliens ready to go down with the ship.

"Regional Superpower" doesn't make sense. They're trying to become a regional power, sure.

Again; the international community has no real authority to do anything in this case. The NPT doesn't include the sort of teeth you think it does--there is no punishment outlined for withdrawing from the NPT. Unless Iran uses a nuke on someone else, or attacks a neighbor, or some other aggressive move towards other nations... the international community has no grounds to attack them. The Us can try to hide behind international law, but there's no actual basis in international law for an act of aggression against Iran in this instance.

Sure, back in reality, the United States is a lawless nation that will do whatever it feels like doing in this matter... but to claim that we're just "upholding the law" is ludicrous. I would also point out that Russia and China objecting is rather more of an issue than you seem to imply. In other words, the other two big nuclear players think this isn't very important. I would also wager that there are a fair number of other countries in the "international community" who also think Iran is in the right here--maybe they don't speak up because they're weak, but some of them might also have dreams of being strong one day.

    LMAO

"The other 2 big nuclear powers" are dictatorship/olicharchies run by megalomaniacs and are little better than rogue nations themselves who gain financially from Iran! They're judgement cannot be trusted.

The fact that you call us a "lawless nation" shows just where your loyalties lie and it isn't with us!

Ok? So what? How does that make their opinions in this matter illegitimate? They are the other two major nuclear powers. They don't seem very concerned, and have in fact been warning us not to attack.

My loyalties are very much with the United States. I think we would be much better off if we did actually follow our own laws and international law to the best of our ability. I am promoting a path that I believe would be the best for the long-term prospects of the United States. We can't maintain our empire in its present form. We can't afford it, in either blood or treasure. It's time to stop pretending.

I'm through with the United States. I loved an America that is gone. What remains is your country...Amerika named after the novel by Franz Kafka. Amerika is worthless. Finish it off and let every one go his or her own way.

I take it by "intellectually honest" you mean full of cynicism and rebellious attitude towards anything that might be deemed "traditional American values" or even slightly center right?

Using the term " traditional American values" is intellectually dishonest.

So, yes, you helped illustrate my point perfectly.

To quote YOU, people who talk like you regularly show us just where THEIR loyalties lie and it doesn't seem to be with us! (The citizens of the USA.)

But I bet Big OIL likes people who talks like you very much indeed.

That 'brutal dictator', if you're referring to the Shah, was installed by America and the CIA-led coup which ousted a democratically elected government. All of America's issues with Iran are of America's own making; and all we hear is whining about how evil they are...and how wonderful democracy is. Anyone see the irony in that?

    Look,

I just don't live in a world full of "Bigs" and see them all clawing and scratching at my throat. I see them as providing much needed natural resources and services in the most convenient manner possible and at the lowest price possible given market conditions.

I do not live in a world full of evil "Bigs" trying to do anything to me except compete for my consumer dollars.

You are the one living in a frightful world where "Bigs" exist.

You see entities of evil. I see successful business models that provide me with a higher quality of life.

Why don't you just conjure up some aliens from outer space while you're at it?

You could cut the mindless hatred for Israel with a knife on this board.
