please provide a link to these military grade weapons you are ranting about. Went to 5 online gun shops and not a one of them sell grenades, fully automatic rifles, or shoulder launched missiles. Am I missing something here or are you just making things up?

I saw you tubes of our boys firing M4's from firebases into taliban positions in semi-auto ... that's how I deduced that an AR-15 is a military-grade weapon ...

Consider that Madison's original draft was: "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; a well armed and well regulated militia being the best security of a free country."

The second clause is dependent on the first, and the first is independent of the second. While the order of the reading was reversed in the final document, the militia clause still remains a weak dependent upon the right of the people clause.

The first phrase (...Militia...) of the current amendment does not limit the second phrase. It's participle "being" simply emphasizes the reason for the amendment to be in the BoR. Imagine if the Constitution were to say "The car tires being flat, the right of the people to walk shall not be infringed". Would it make sense then that if the car tires were filled, Congress could infringe upon the right to walk? No one denies that the people have the right to walk, but if the car tires are flat, then people are just going to have to walk. Similarly, the people have the right to keep and bear arms, and if the militia needs to be called out, the people will need their arms.

no the M4 or colt model R0920 Safe-Semi-Burst and the Colt R0921 Safe-Semi-Auto are only available to the military. What Holmes used is a look alike which has only safe and semi capability. No burst or auto. You couldfind a full auto version depending on the state where you live if you have the money and can get a ATF class 3 permit, but you won't find one in Walmart. Class 3 licenses are not hard that hard to get, just time consuming since they require a full FBI background investigation but full auto guns are expensive to buy and expensive to shoot. One of the local business owners here has a HumVee with 2 fully automatic 50 cals mounted on it, or so I have heard, never actually saw it myself but some of my friends have. Every time one of those things goes bang it costs him a couple of dollars LOL

If the Soros trolls want to talk massacres let's talk about massacres. If you want to talk about military weapons let's talk about military weapons but not just the massacres that involve military weapons and forget that in this case the shooter also used a 12G shotgun and a hand gun. Can you tell us how many people were killed or injured by the military weapon opposed to the number hit by the 12g and the hand gun?? The 40 caliber hand gun may have been fired 10 to 15 times, the shoot gun may have been fired 7 times and shot 120 32 caliber pellets into the crowd or fired 7 times shooting over 300 22 caliber pellets into the crowd. The military weapon is no more deadly at the range the range we are talking about but to be hit by it the target did have to be in the direct line of fire where the shotgun would hit several people in its line of fire. Even though this was a tactical shotgun, not as cool as mine, even a long barrel duck gun can fire the 00 buck shot or the one number 1s.

As we all know; the 2nd A. was demanded by the public before they would accept the Constitution so that the people could have the same weapons that defeated the King. And there is also the right to protect your private property. Our founders saw the right to private property as the real foundation of true freedom and I agree. The liberal horde can't see the value in private property because they have no sense of value. They don't value the hard work and self reliance that it takes to create private property and wealth so the idea that our nations wealth should belong to them whether they have created anything of value or not is rational to them.

Thanks for the input ... and the Colorado massacre victims thank you too ... they'll be happy to know the tea party NRA'rs have classified assault weapons that distinguish a militray-grade from civilian-use because instead of taking hefty automatic bursts ... they need to feel lucky they only took a semi-auto burst ...

Because it was the official policy of the United States that Saddam should not be allowed to remain in power, a policy that predated Bush.

The rifle at the theatre is the same mechanically as every single modern designed semi auto rifle for the last 100 years. I see through you. Your trying to ban the design of very semi auto rifle.

Your the only one who talks 'military grade'. Even the military doesn't use the concept of 'military grade' what ever that means.

Semi-autos don't burst. M-16s do. If you get your facts right then your brain will follow.

My apology ... the Colorado victims will be happy to know that the tea party NRA'rs have classified assault weapons in such a way (design and manufacture) that they aren't responsible for what term is used ... so to legitimize Holmes purchase because he filled-out all the information over the internet(s) and that he was in his legal rights to purchase them from arms dealers for sportsmanship .... all under the umbrella of the 2nd Amemdment ... (founding fathers knew the internet(s) were coming)

Now that we've cleared this all up let's move on to projectiles ... also an important consideration where concepts in assault rifle design is actually designed around ...

    .....

    1) The 2nd Amendment ensures the right to walk down the street in safety...the NRA and gun lovers have REinterpreted the 2nd Amdnmant to suit their needs. It has been perverted to the extreme that the safety of the citizen is forgotten in the race to shield gun lovers. The writer, (Madison) of the 2nd Amendment never thought of the NRA, but only of colonialists that felt they needed a 'militia'...the NRA was not even formed at that time...AK47's were not built, nor were automatic weapons. God never gave you the right to keep guns...like, were you talking to Her lately?

There is a rebuke in the 2nd Amendment by Madison saying certain licentiousness of actions by arms carriers is to be forbidden. The NRA personifies that very image.

    2) Yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theatre is another warning about freedom of speech, in which the safety of the people in that theatre must not be abridged in any fashion.

DING DING !!! Those are Aurora bells going off...we don't even need speech anymore
    ...we've got GUNS!!!

    .....

For a person to buy some guns, tons of ammunition, cannisters, AND red hair dye does anyone doubt that it was going to be one hell of a 'deer hunting' recreational scene about to unfold?

you are showing your lack of reading comprehension/education again Exotix, burst and semi auto are oxymorons . Burst is the gun fires 4 rounds with each trigger pull which is one of the 2 available versions for the military purchase. Civilians without a class 3 permit can only buy semi auto means the trigger must be fully released and pressed between each round.

As with here ... I like the part about conservatives in hysteria because an assault rifle used in warfare is not the identical assault rifle sold to civilians because the tea party NRA'rs say so ...

The Colorado massacre victims are glad to know this ... especially the families of the dead ... they can bury their loved ones (as open casket) without too much mortician make-up.

not because I say so it is because it is a fact. For some reason it seems as if you feel like you have to lie to make your point. If so then maybe it is because your point is a lie

    [IMG] [IMG]

answer - neither, they are the same rifle just in different stocks. A Ruger 10/22 which is chambered in .22 rimfire LOL.- just because it has a black plastic stock it is not a military grade assault weapon

Why ask me ... I've never been shot ... ask someone who's been shot by an assault rifle what's the difference.

Virtually everyone was armed in 1776 and such matters of simply Impugning another person's honor could result in a gun duel. We may have a lot of privately owned firearms today but generally it's because of those that own more than one firearm but the percentage of the population that owned firearms in 1776 was much greater than what we have today.

Are we saying that the founders of America were suffering from deep paranoia and madness? How interesting because the ability of the People to overthrow a despotic government is actually considered to be both a Right and a Duty in the Declaration of Independence.

    http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/declaration_transcript.html

It annoys me no end when someone misrepresents the actual history of the United States in making an argument based upon what the founders believed.

well if you can't even tell the difference between a military grade assault rifle and a $200.00 .22 bought at Wally World then why are you posting nonsense that Holmes was using a military grade assault rifle.

Being shot by an assault rifle is far less damaging than being shot by a hunting rifle which has far more energy than a round from an assault rifle. Compare the ballistics below between a .223 Remington used in an AR-15 can the common .308 Winchester deer rifle.

    http://www.chuckhawks.com/rifle_ballistics_table.htm

The muzzle energy and energy at 200 yards for the .308 is basically double that of the AR-15.

This sounds exactly what the NRA does every day.

The idea that the founders would have wanted yahoos like the Tea Partier to be armed with banaclips and armor piercing bullets is silly beyond belief. They didn't even want nonlandowners to vote, much less shoot.

And of course the NRA myth that the Second Amendment was to protect the country from tyranny has be rebutted by so many law journal articles that it defies belief that anybody is still repeating this schlock history. The first executive order of Washington was to disarm a bunch of guys with guns who claimed to be fighting tyranny -- the Whiskey Rebellion.
