Old people still have to live in the here and now. The young would put us all on carousel.

    OP

Bad idea - 16-year olds aren't worldly-wise enough to vote. Then again, quite a few adults aren't either, but there's no need to aggravate the situation.

Some would say 30 for women and 40 for men. About the time they start acting responsibly.

Interesting post. I didn't claim you were 16 years old. Must have touched a nerve though.

You have an opinion and I have no respect for it, especially when you accuse me of being at war with the United States.

You might want to tone it down a bit. As it is, your post is completely meaningless.

It is a question of which age a person should legally be considered of age. With us in Germany this is generally the case in all things with 18 years the case, with you in the USA this is differentiated difficult:
at 16 you can get a driver's license and drive a car, at 18 you can legally buy a gun,
but only at 21 drinking alcohol legally in a bar
... and then again slightly different in the 50 states!

We had already had the same discussion for another reason, whether the kids should be allowed to vote at 16 ... but with all the bluster of the whole pages and experts or apparent experts then came out a no, because with 16 still too easily influenced be!

It would be the best option if it didn't involve the government deciding what qualifies as responsible.

Anybody who cannot be trusted to buy alcohol or a gun should not be trusted to vote, serve in a jury, or be in the military. Either a person is an adult or not. It all should happen at the same age. Why do we have 2 tiered citizenship?

I served in Viet Nam so I certainly was there. What a totally ignorant thing to post.

Parents of the 16 year old HS students you want to trust to vote. How would you like to go on trial and see a jury of 16 yr olds sitting to judge you?

Since you claimed that everybody protesting thecwar was a drugged out hippie you obviously weren't there on campus or anywhere near the anti war movement. My post stands as written.

Since a lot of us who were part of the movement were college students eligable for deferment or high enough on the lottery never to be called up your post is nonsense.

That said your opinion is probably why the draft was ended so that future wars would have less protests and the children of the rich politicians less likely to have to fight or develop phony bone spurs. Also of course our current system of using contractors to fight wars makes graft and corruption even easier.

if you're a black teenager how would like to go to trial and see a jury of old white folks sitting to judge you?...when it comes to the highly technical scientific evidence common in courtrooms the average high school senior is better equipped to comprehend the scientific evidence then some 65 yr old who hasn't been in a science class for 45+ years...

    No, raise it to 21.

ETA: Raise the age restriction on driver's licenses to 21 as well. And military service.

To believe that BS High School Senior is something one can oly hope for.
What if your hypothetical jury were white 16 year olds? You think stumbling through high school biology equips you for life? I've raised kids, your parents are probably still working hard at it. Talk to them about whether or not you should be able to vote.

I've got a high school kid that would humble you in a test of knowledge and wisdom...
your arrogance is evidence of the Dunning-Kruger effect...
you think being alive stumbling through blindly through life is a sign of wisdom, nah it's just stumbling...

I'd take them over the likes of you, so long as they were not kids raised by the likes of you..

I prefer 18, 18 is an adult, all adults should be treated as adults, regardless if voting, drinking, gambling or owning a gun, ect....

so you want to take away the rights of American adults to vote?

any other rights you do not think adults under 25 should have?

if you allow them to drive and marry at 16 both adult activities that require adult responsibilities and judgement how can say they can't vote?...I known many astute 16yr olds and many, many seniors who are as dumb as a post...

I agree 100%. I liked the 18 year old voting age when I was 18, and see the positive things it did for my now 19 year old son. I think the 18 year old drinking age is acceptable, same with gambling. Right now, here in FL, the age to buy a gun from a gun dealer is 21. The age to buy one in a private sale is 18, and that includes handguns. As Wyly said, if you allow them to drive and marry at 16, you should allow them to do the rest at 18.

You probably won't last this long, with your nose pointed skyward like that a cliff will inevitably get you or maybe one of those self driving cars your kid helps design.
