You mean the people who fought in wars so that you could have the freedoms which you now enjoy?

The human brain isn't fully developed until age 25. We should be raising the age, not lowering it.

That is just silly. Old rich people run the country and make all the really big and really stupid decisions!

The last war that was fought for Freedom was WW2. Vietnam, Iraq, and Afganistan had nothing to do with freedom for Americans. Korea is still open to question in my mind.

Dude, most old people call AAA for a flat tire and if they do try to change it themselves they will turn out to have been too addled to check the spare tire pressure since buying the car.

And better to settle disputes in the courts than with guns!

I think to be fair about it everyone should pass the citizenship test before being allowed to cast a vote..

Nope. They were young and smart and just got old and stupid. And if you are going to be stupid better to do it while young when your stupidity won't have consequences like war or economic disasters ( like Bush's recession)

No, the Rand Corp told JFK don't listen to former President Eisenhower, you can win a war in South Vietnam with just a few Green Berets.

And the proof to the claim being made by yourself is what precisely?

Because no one is capable of talking matters out on their own, without the intervention of the legal system? The art of basic, simple communication, is a lost art that cannot be rediscovered?

Experience doesn't seem to lead to more policy wisdom or rationality in the average American adult anyway. So I'm not really for democratic processes, but what seems most fair to me is to not base it upon age, but rather intelligence tests. Either in order to select leaders, or to allow people to vote. I know that has a racist history, but it still would be a better way to go than counting the voices of idiots as much as geniuses.

Stupidity always has consequences if one isn't too stupid to recognize them.

Why did you feel the need to specify which wars were faught for freedom?

      Does that answer your question?

The age for voting should be the same age as being able to purchase a firearm.

But if the Dems want to push the issue, set the voting age at 30 and watch the rats scramble.

It would be nice is people who voted had actually taken time to be informed.

The slippery slope of a poll test is so bleak and dangerous that it's not worthy of any consideration.

Ok, as long as we also raise the drinking, driving, gun owning and military service age to 25, and they pay no taxes until then.

Were you not agreeing with @wyly that old people should not be allowed to vote? It seemed that you were trying to prove that no one who fought in a war which was fought for freedom is still alive. Do you think that you achieved that?

No there are about 1.5 million WW2 vets still alive. They should automatically be allowed to vote. Everyone else over 65 should be tested using the Citizenship test.

I don’t know whether the voting age should be 16 or not, but I do know that 16-17 year olds would vote in such insignificant numbers that it wouldn’t change a thing. 18-24 year old barely vote. Younger people would vote in even lower numbers.
