I think this is deserving of a real debate. However, I don't think this matters at all when it comes to the 2016 election. Ignorant protestors are actually saying that Trump should be ousted because he lost the popular vote and that the electoral college is unfair.

Well, it doesn't matter which works better right now. All that matters right now is that we HAVE an electoral college and it freely and fairly decided that Trump is President. There was no cheating. No one was cheated out of a President. Racism didn't cause Trump to become President. Popular vote is meaningless because that is NOT how our system works.

If we want popular vote to decide the President instead of the electoral college then we have to change our laws in order to do so. Congress and the Senate and I guess ultimately the Supreme Court would need to be involved in a fully legal and legislative process. That's it.

As far as 2016 goes, Trump deserves to be President and fairly won this election. The popular vote is meaningless because our legislation says it is meaningless. It's that simple.

The issue is, there really is no fair way of deciding the president. The electoral college is there because otherwise certain areas would have almost 0 say so in the election, while other areas and the people in them would have all the say so. This isnt fair either.

But we cant have it both ways. Both are unfair to an extent and have their advantages and disadvantages. We gotta pick one and stick with it. And certainly the electoral college is the most fair way we can come up with at the moment.

At least their misguided complaints might lead to a stronger political system, one unknowingly that will weaken the Democrats. Creating a playing field where the smaller States are equal to the big states means they couldn't complain about this result in the future. CA/NY will no longer determine the presidency more than half the time.

You bet he will. What are you going to do, sit during the national anthem, jaywalk, not watch his inauguration, have a weekly abortion, chain yourself to Trump tower? LOL who cares?

You'll live in Trump's America, you'll abide by laws Trump passes, executive orders Trump signs, policies Trump implements, you'll benefit or be hurt by his domestic, social, economic and foreign policies...

He WILL be your president.... unless you people put your money where your mouth is and actually move to Canada, then he won't.... BTW, I presume your moving to Mexico is out of the question, right? LOL :D

While I do think that we need the electoral college to a certain extent, a fully proportional allotment system would much better suit my sensibilities.

Personally speaking, I'm going to come out and say that while Donald Trump may be a President, he is most certainly not my President. The majority of the people voting on Election Day voted against him, I voted against him, he does not represent any of my views, and I would not invite him over for dinner, or accept any invitations to dinner with him. If Clinton, Obama or Bush invited me to dinner as part of some sort of randomized lottery, I would eagerly accept, I would act cordial, I would be honored; if Trump invited me over for dinner, I would slam the door in his face, likely while making a comment about how I didn't own any (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)cats.

While I would likely obey any executive orders he passed if they were trivial, if he actually passed anything that I disliked significantly I would not feel bound to obey it out of respect, I would feel compelled to obey it because otherwise I could face 'insert penalty here'. That's the difference between being held at gunpoint and being politely asked by someone with a gun in their house. I'm not going to move, because that would be untenable with my business situation. Once again, being held at gunpoint, not be asked by someone who owns a gun.

Also, I already jaywalk pretty much constantly and don't say the pledge of allegiance when that comes up. Nobody really cares in my area.

He will NEVER be my President.

    I shall not honor him.

    I shall no salute him.

I shall not stand at attention for him.

I shall not defend him against of his enemies, foreign or domestic.

I shall not abide by his criminal laws or Executive Orders.

I shall offer sanctuary to any illegal immigrant who was brought here as a child, and was given protection by Obama.

I shall march against him. I shall protest against him.

I shall encourage the Electoral College to vote against him on October 19th.

He will NEVER be my President.

at first, it looked like he might not.

Donald Trump called for revolution, if Obama won the EC but not the Popular vote.

    maybe he was right?

It may happen this time as well. Then where will your argument go. Again Trump is no constitutional scholar and what he thinks on this matters not. It would take a constitutional amendment to change it

not yet, but he will be on Jan 20. Say it with me. President of the United States Donald J Trump.

If you arent black and/or rich Obama isnt inviting you over so dont worry about that.

    The majority voted against Hillary.

Of course you would obey any executive orders, you dont have a choice not to unless you want to risk legal consequences. Can you think of any law thats not enforced at the end of a gun? Since the answer is no, why even mention it?

Also, I already jaywalk pretty much constantly and don't say the pledge of allegiance when that comes up. Nobody really cares in my area.[/QUOTE]

Aren't you glad you live in a country that allows you to do all of this?

I have been back and forth on the Electoral College, but, I think it actually saved us this year. One day you may come to realize that also. I won't hold my breath though.

    No, it would not.

Electoral College can make an unwritten rule for themselves, that they will from now on follow the Popular Vote.

no need to change the Constitution. the EC can vote for whomever they like.

Go ahead and revolt. These last couple days of liberal whining have been pure comedy gold. I hope they keep it up for the whole 4 years Trump is in the whore house.

Actually this is about 58 individual elections. 48 states, DC, 5 in Nebraska and 4 in Maine.

And while most can vote as they wish, not all of them can.
