Interesting. Can she divorce herself? If she finds a boyfriend/girlfriend would she be committing adultery? Is she eligible for tax breaks?

Of course, the anti gay marriage rabble will claim that this is a result of allowing same sex marriage - not that North Dakota allows gay marriage, but lets not let that stop them.

So...publicity stunt, or is she just plain nuts?

I don't know how old her kids are, but I hope they stay far away from her. Kids need stability and she's far from stable........

Well .... I guess that might be kinda interesting. Since she married herself, I guess she could divorce herself?

If she had had any hopes of attracting a sane, normal guy - she blew it. But the strange, weird, unstable ones will be beating a path to her door.....

How would that work? Would she be cheating on herself if she got involved w/one?

Interesting thing to point out about this. Whenever this scenario was proposed in the gay marriage threads, it was always batted down as impossible due to a contract being between 2 people. Guess we can put that defense to rest.

Does anyone remember when Dennis Rodman tried to marry himself? What about the man in the 1980s who married his guitar? It's more serious now though. Will she file her tax returns as a couple? Can she get extra tax shelters or more credit cards? Will her marriage be recognized in other states?

I hope she never becomes at odds with herself. If she does get divorced SHE would get half and HERSELF would get the other half. Overall they'd leave with what they started with.

Same sex marriage? It doesn't bother me that she screws herself.

Honestly though, she's trying to find what is good inside her. I suppose she's been unhappy about a great many things, perhaps looking externally for happiness. The gesture of marrying herself is the attempt to claim herself and find the value in that. Psychologically it could be a very sound move for her.

 

In the next episode she will turn herself into the police as an abusive husband.

Seriously, if a woman can be listed on a birth certificate as a baby's father then anything is possible in this brave new world.

 

If her spouse cheats on her, will she have an intuitive feeling about it, or will she remain unaware?

To be fair, it was a commitment ceremony, not a legal marriage, I believe.

 

Hell I would marry myself just for the tax implications, completely changes ones tax rate when filling married filling jointly. Unfortunately I know I would be a horrible spouse, so I'm torn.

Edit: Just thought of something, would I be able to claim myself as a dependent twice? If so I'm in!

 

Well, being that benefits for marriage exist, this seems reasonable. I should marry myself. I was actually considering asking my friends if I could marry one of their girlfriends while I was in the Army and give them half the money I'd get. Would have made more. BS that married get more than unmarried.

 

Seriously though when has your hand cheated on you with another man? With a girl sure, but I'd say that's a joint decision.

 

I want to marry my cat Mimi. Who is anyone to tell me who I can and can't love. She'll make a great tax deduction as it's obvious she can't work and is completely dependent.
