You're saying the Australian size 12 is equivalent to the American size 6?! Wow ... somehow I don't believe that there's that much of a vast difference w/the dress sizing b/t the 2 countries......
I can believe it. There's no real universal code for sizes, and nothing to hold anybody accountable if there was. I'm a dude, but I've noticed one company's 2xl shirt will be the size of the next company's lg, even though they both say 2xl.
I think we need to distinguish between the three types of skinny. Many people on here have suggested that "skinny" women are only skinny because they starve themselves and do it for pure vanity. These type of women most definitely do exist, but they are by no means the only type of skinny women. Here's my perception as a male of the different types. 3 types of skinny women: Calorie counters: These women often have eating disorders or are very insecure with their bodies. They often have almost no asses, small chests, and a sort of "deflated" look. They would ideally weigh about 10-15 pounds more than they currently do. These women rarely exercise seriously, only hitting the treadmill to burn calories or to lift those silly little weights to "tone up." Some of these women with "curves" may be mistaken for the athletic type, but they're always just a step away from gaining a lot of weight or developing a full blown eating disorder. These types tend to constantly gain and lose a lot of weight. Naturally slim: Some women win the genetic lottery and will be skinny no matter what. Some of them exercise and some don't, men can tell the difference, especially later down the road. Athletic: These women take pride in their physical fitness and work hard. They aren't afraid to sweat or lift weights. These types have the absolutely ideal body types in mine and most male's opinion. They can be a mix of large chests/wide hips and naturally slim. I know girls who are 5'8 and size 0s who are 100% healthy, toned, and fit (these types are unfairly criticized by large women as being anorexic). I also know size 8s sporting large chests that have fantastically fit and truly "curvy" bodies. Obviously I'm being very general here, but I think this more or less sums up the skinny types (low body fat). It's possible for women to be a combination of two of these types. In summation, being skinny doesn't automatically mean you have an eating disorder nor does it automatically mean your healthy. In my experience, women who describe themselves as curvy tend to be 20-40lbs overweight. Women who are actually curvy, have wide hips and large chests, and almost always fall into the "athletic" category of skinny. If a woman wants to have a truly ideal body, they need to focus a little less on counting calories and more on exercising properly. Too many women are scared of lifting weights which is an absolute shame. The best female bodies around are built with weights, not treadmills.
You sure got that right! One of the under 5' women I know is a neighbor and I used to visit w/her, but quit - to annoying.... for some reason she's so proud of being under 5' and to often would throw out the comments 'I'm so petite' - 'I'm only 4'10", you know'. I got tired of leaving w/a bloody tongue, wanting to say 'no, you're not petite, you're just plain short and there is a difference'..... and she's large! She has to weigh around 200#! I don't understand where her vanity & shallowness comes from..... Oh yeah - she's also an ordained minister. Wow..... 2 of my closest gal pals are prone to putting on weight easily - never obese, but easy weight gain if they don't watch the calories and they are the kindest and most thoughtful women. They have pretty faces, but beautiful personalities and they know the meaning of the word 'friend'..... and that's what I look for in people.
Oh dear ..... now that's really jaw-dropping. I've seen muscular women w/biceps that any guy would kill to have, but ...are you absolutely sure this really is a woman?
I once had a client that was like that. Except she was taller and had the nastiest feet that she loved to claim were "Barbie feet." You have NO idea how hard it was for me to not say "I think you mean Barbarian feet!" Insecurities of all forms help shape self perception on appearance but like you, I don't understand how they can be so far off base sometimes. I have one neighbor who is about 34, and LOVES strappy type tank tops. The only problem is she can't seem to find one that can go low enough over the beer gut. At least she doesn't pretend she is petite.
I am married to a woman that had lots of curves although it's hard to tell in this picture. 112 lbs and a nice size 5 Click on picture to make bigger
A lot of our perceptions of beauty are cultural based. In societies that value female fertility, plump women are preferred. When a woman's body fat reaches a certsain point, she will stop menstruating. In most of Africa and the Middle East, plump is in. Example, Amy Sacko, one of the divas of African music, often referred to as the "African Tina Turner," held up as one of the sexiest women in music:
Liz Taylor was one of the most beautiful, curviest women I have ever seen. Wasn't that happy with her when she went after Eddie Fisher, but she was one striking beauty.
I have a lot of friends who go after thicker women for the simple fact 90-95% of a relationship is outside of the bedroom and after kissing sexy chick's asses for years they want that 90-95% to be as much about them as the female they're with. A relationship where sex is for you and the rest is for the female are nightmares. Especially if you put a ring on the finger and the sex becomes less frequent. Many a men stuck in that sinking ship. Best to have 100% of the relationship for both involved. Those are the ones that last, and tend not to be founded on a basis of looks.
I wonder how this applies outside of the USA, though? If you go to the former Soviet countries, for instance, most women are lean and very beautiful, which I should think would help them and the men there to avoid the kind of fat vs non-fat mentality we have. Stereotypes aside, I'm betting you could find a woman who's both dead sexy and not self-absorbed in such a culture, whereas here it's bound to be much more hit and miss.
I've heard of such things. Many of men who are in the position to be international refuse to ever date an American woman again because of this. I am in no such position, as most of the men I know. If there is truth to this, the men and women would be wise to keep American culture out of their societies altogether.
Indeedy. Everything from chemical-laden foods and junk foods to the whole skin-deep mindset are best avoided. There's a joke I heard a long while back which I like to retell on occasion: What's the difference between America and yogurt? Yogurt has culture. I was in Germany in 2008 through a study abroad program, and I translated and told it there. Still got a chuckle! Well, if it's funny, it would seem to have some truth to it. We don't have much of a culture relative to the Old World, and what we do have is... different.
As a nation we are still very very young and there are pockets of cultures but none that are as pervasive as Old World because our Nationalism is based on more of an idea versus history.
I truly believe we have traitors at the top of every food chain. So it is hard for me to grasp what is a natural evolution of us as a people, and what is the results of desired destruction by those in control. The day the top became globalists and dropped their American title, any sort of analysis became impossible. At this point it feels as if America as a whole is nothing more than a work camp/guinea pig test site that the Nazis at one time would have thrown undesirables into. I know this seems off topic, but it truly effects every inch of our society.
She got that body with years of hard dedicated work, a very strict diet, and most importantly, STEROIDS. No natural woman would ever look like that. Women have about 10% of the testosterone of men. It's guys like you that keep women from hitting the weights and getting the nice and trim bodies we all want in women.
This is one of the silliest things I've heard on PF. You realize that U.S. "culture" dominates the entertainment industry (hollywood, music, iphone etc.)? Maybe it's because you're from South Dakota where there isn't much of anything.
There's a movie where Matt Dillon is an actor and "Outs" his former school teacher Kevin Kline. In it, Dillon is dating a runway model and she gives one of the best lines in a move ever. Dillon asks the model if she wants to go somewhere with him and she replies: "I don't have time. I promised to do that photo shot this afternoon. I have to shower and vomit!"
