She clearly makes some on the right feel intellectually inferior. That's a surefire way to get republicans to oppose such a person. An idiot like Trump who speaks at a 3rd grade level is much more appealing. it also helps if they are white and not a female.

They don't have to. The GOP didn't move to the center, and they are in power now.

I suspect the backlash to a Trump presidency will be...a very left wing president.

 

If the Dems move to the hard left, a centrist Rep could probably win rather handily. But 2020 and 2024 are a long ways off, so time will tell.

Well, for what it's worth, a centrist Democrat would also have a very good chance. I just think going hard left would be a mistake, but that's just one old guy's opinion.

Heck, Bernie Sanders had A LOT of support, and this is despite him running for the presidency after 8 years of a Democrat in office. If Trump gets 8 years, and if he's very unpopular, someone who runs very far to the left, basically the opposite of Trump's rhetoric during his campaign, could and likely will get elected, IMO.

 

I think almost any decent Democrat will be able to trounce trump in 2020. If trump isn't impeached first, he still won't be re-elected.

Besides, it'll only take donnie-boy a couple of years to destroy America's standing in the world, our economy, social safety net, clean water and air, etc., etc.

 

If the dems don't go far left they start losing their base. Plus Warren would have to prove that Indian heritage she claims to have and I am betting she can't do it.

I think the problem is that we are in an entertainment society now. Centrists, like Jim Webb (D), can't get any attention because they aren't screaming that "Trump is Hitler!!!!" and climbing the empire state building naked. Heck, even Hillary was too centrist for the Left. Maybe she should climb a building ... naked.
