Of course not, but we face those everyday. Currently, texting & chatting on the phone while driving is the worst. Pot is pretty low on that list.

 

It's not a competition for me. Yes, there are lots of other distractions...don't think we need to be adding to it with weed or alcohol.

 

driving distracted is simply irresponsible. period.

 

Most of the people who smoke weed don't do it while driving. And most DUI's are for alcohol.

You are more likely to get killed by a driver who is talking on a cell phone than one who is high on weed.

I base my priorities on what needs addressing the most. Yes, I have a few annoying ants in my house, but, in terms of the other challenges that come with owning a house, it's a gnat, so it goes lower on the priority list. Driving while high is a gnat-style problem. People shouldn't do it, we completely agree, but most pot smokers already don't drive high. The texting while driving thing is a much bigger problem to tackle, by orders of magnitude.

Deep South. Cops are notoriously crooked around here. All those Southern cop memes and stereotypes? Believe them for the most part, especially around smaller cities and towns.

I'm sure that cops are fine upstanding public servants for the most part, just be very careful around here and don't try any sovereign citizen "I know my rights" stuff or face some rather harsh, immediate consequences.

 

And again: That's if you're pulled over by a K9 officer and I'm well aware that the dogs mostly trigger off their owner.
A normal cop cannot make you wait though for a K9 or have one swing by to do a free air sniff, without independent cause. Most will be hesitant to simply engage in a fishing expedition if they have any care for the oath they swore. One would hope one's officers of the law hold to their oaths. Some won't, sure. But most will.

There are no equivalent marijuana studies that show significant impairment. In fact, in some of the studies peoples driving skills improved.

This is not to say that one should not wait for an hour after taking a big bong hit - the point however is that much of the nonsense surrounding pot and driving - comparing it to drunk driving and so on - is "refer madness". Such comparisons simply have no basis in reality.

I would far far rather get in a car with someone driving stoned rather than drunk no doubt.

 

The difference is that when somebody is texting or chatting, they can stop doing that in an instant, and be totally coherent. Can't do that with any kind of intoxication.

 

The difference is, people texting don't know they need to pay attention until they've crashed and killed someone. There is no evidence that pot is the main factor in car accidents on a wide-spread basis.

 

I don't actually know the driving statistics of pot smokers. Do you have any factual links to the claim most pot smokers already don't drive high?

Peer reviewed studies of this? I want to see some references. I believe no studies show impairment, but that's because I don't think many studies have been done. Please show me the studies that show that marijuana improves driving skills--peer reviewed and in an academic or mainstream (not pro-pot like NORML) source.
