    The original Trump-Taliban Withdrawal Agreement called for withdrawal by May 1st...the start of the "fighting season."

    Pompeo graduated at the top of his West Point class. He negotiated the original agreement with the Taliban. Why did he accept the demand for the release of the prisoners and the withdrawal date at the beginning of the fighting season? A delay until the beginning of winter would have helped the Afghan government.

    Stupid and incompetent. The government is that way no matter who is in charge. I think Pompeo is one of the bright spots in recent government management but he did something stupid and incompetent. I do too, from time to time.

    No they are in our military trucks we the tax payers paid for.. the trucks were abandoned and left for the Taliban..

    Oh that. Yes a humiliating defeat doesn't tend to tie up loose ends. Or defeat in Vietnam wasn't particularly pretty either.

    What the strategy for US 'nation building' should be- airdrop crates of battle rifles and ammo to the people. The tens of thousands of Taliban cannot rule an unwilling tens of millions of Afghans if they're armed. The Taliban's first order of business after achieving victory- gun confiscation.

    The false narrative is we should keep troops there. The true narrative is Biden screwed the withdrawal up royally. There are thousands of Americans stranded that can’t get to Kabul.

    I love how few people commenting on here didn't even bother to see or read Biden's press briefing yesterday which answered, preliminarily, the difficulties they encountered with the Aghan officials, trying to strike a careful balance of preparing to exit but not creating a panic. A lot of these Afghanis didn't want to leave too soon, but the Taliban forced the situation and the Afghan military folded like a stack of cards, and so here we are with a panicked exodus.

    This is a developing story, which means we the public, don't have all the details and facts about what has or hasn't happened. In the weeks to come, we will know more. Of course, I realize that the minions will bitch no matter what. Better get used to the fact we are going to have a significant amount of Afghani refugees in the months to come, and according to crazy GQP logic, they'll all be Democrats in about 8 years.

    I vote because it is MY DUTY to vote as a citizen of this representative democracy. I do not see any point in voicing an opinion without taking any action. I believe there was a time that was called, "lazy", but things change, I guess. Nonetheless, I am free to ignore anything you write based on my belief that you do not have the guts to bother to vote.

    I have been on some sites in which some people are paid to monitor chatter and post dissenting opinions to gauge the pushback. I am not saying anyone here is doing that but it is common, in general.
