5000 were released prior to the initial drawdown. The Afghan forces released more through prisoner swaps. Again, more blind assumption when there are several other possible answers. But feel free to pick the one that matches your partisan rhetoric.

I love how trump has nothing to do with it yet you keep bringing him up…

I have no idea why they chose that date — likely a PR stunt but trump would have not gotten credit for the final pull out except by his cult if it happened in May or October of 2021. There is zero evidence that ISIS wouldn’t have attacked if we followed the agreement (that had already been broken btw) made with a different terrorist organization. Saying so is quite frankly an insult to everyone’s intelligence.

the only mistake Trump made was not getting the people out right away, that should have been his top priority

Convoluting a few things now? 5000 Taliban fighters were released in exchange for a cease fire, no American soldiers attacked or killed, no road side bombs, 1000 Afghan soldiers released, 13,000 US soldiers brought home, and US 3 military bases evacuated. No ISIS fighters attacked the 3 bases Trump evacuated. No ISIS fighters attacked the 13,000 troops evacuated, No ISIS fighters attacked the 1000 Afghan's released. No ISIS or Taliban fighters attacked anyone during Trumps agreement for over 18 months.

If you don't know the Taliban started its seizure of Afghanistan May 1st, this isn't the place for you
If you don't know Biden was warned by the Taliban to get out by May or they would take over Afghanistan, this isn't the place for you
If you don't know that the Taliban took over Afghanistan prior to occupying Kabul, this isn't the place for you
If you don't know the Taliban released ISIS fighters, this isn't the place for you

You need to go back and get caught up before trying to nurse maid Bidens incompetence.

Just like there isn't any evidence that Americans would be trapped behind enemy lines if Biden would have abided by the agreement
There isn't any evidence that 13 American warfighters would be killed had Biden left before occupation
There isn't any evidence that 150 Afghans would be blown up had Biden evacuated before occupation
There isn't any evidence hundreds of Americans would be left behind had Biden evacuated before occupation

As a matter of fact, Biden evacuated our airbase 30 days prior to occupation without an ISIS attack or any Taliban interference which proves he could have evacuated without an ISIS attack.

In fact, all evidence shows based on Trumps successes, and Bidens successes of evacuating the airbase July 6th, that Bidens only task of 2500 troops and refugees evacuated shouldn't have been any different. Especially if he did it when he evacuated the air base

    You made three specific claims
    1) “ISIS-K fighters were released from Bagram airfield”
    2) They were released “by the Taliban”
    3) That the ISIS terrorists that did the bombing were “the” ISIS terrorists released.

Instead of proving these claimed you have moved on to childish insults showing both your narrative and where you “belong”.

Now please, pack up your indefensible strawman as no one has defended Biden, try to calm down and show your sources.

Kabul was where the mass of large groups were trying to evacuate. Those groups were primarily due to civilians, contractors and aid agencies not evacuating when the state department sent notices for months suggesting they make their way out of the nation.

They were given a specific target with a high potential of casualties. Yes, the Biden administration and intelligence agencies should have been more prepared but there was no way to evacuate people prior because those people did not want to leave.

    Your assumptions are just that.

The issue was that these people didn’t want to leave until the last minute.

From what I have read the groups primarily consisted of
    • Contractors and their families — who wanted to make as much money as possible or do as much as they could to rebuild or help their cause
    • Aid workers and their families — who wanted to help as many as possible
    • Non-citizens — who didn’t necessarily have the option to leave
The state department had been urging people to leave for months and very few did, probably because no one expected the Afghan forces to surrender so quickly while the President fled.

Afghanistan airport attack: Who are IS-K?
When the Taliban took over in Kabul on 15 August, the group released large numbers of prisoners from Pul-e-Charki jail. That jail is at Bagram
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-58333533

Video shows thousands of prisoners, reportedly including Islamic State and al Qaeda fighters, freed from Kabul jail by the Taliban
Afghan government troops surrendered Bagram airbase to the Taliban early on Sunday. The base houses Pul-e-Charki prison, which has around 5,000 prisoners. It is the largest in Afghanistan and notorious for its poor conditions. A maximum-security cellblock held members of al Qaeda and Taliban
    https://news.yahoo.com/video-shows-thousands-prisoners-reportedly-160907873.html

    This is not new news.

Meaning, If Biden would have evacuated the embassy and troops the same time as the Airbase, there wouldn't have been an attack on our forces. Because there wasn't an attack when they evacuated the base.

They were told the evacuation would conclude Sept 11. They were not told it would happen in the middle of the night August 13.

    1. You don't evacuate your only air support before civilians
    2. You don't evacuate your troops before civilians
    3. The reason they evacuated the troops before civilians in because Biden continued to ignore the Talibans approaching army warnings and got caught with his pants down.

I don’t know if that is the standard procedure or not — maybe on paper but the last few conflicts, Vietnam for example, quite a bit was left behind.

Wasn’t the vast majority of equipment seized by the Taliban owned by Afghan forces or was it US owned?

my unit was sent into Honduras to help supply the Hondurans fight against the communist when we returned home some equipment we had to leave behind because we didn't have room to bring it all out in one trip and we weren't going back for it
we destroyed at least 12 trucks a Willy Peat grenade ( white phosphorous )
placed on the engine block did a nice job of it burns a hole right through it

I would argue that it's actually a bit more important to NOT elect a terrorist to the highest position in the world. Just sayin'.

Again, all of this is assumptions outside of them releasing prisoners. No where does it say that any of the prisoners were involved in the attacks. You can retract your statement if it was made in error instead of doubling down. If he would have evacuated the embassy on the same day there would be even more Americans stuck there — is that really preferable?

Correct me if I am wrong but didn’t the Pentagon say they would be completely evacuated by the end of August when they evacuated Bagram Airfield in early July?

I completely agree with your first two points. To the third — troops were the final ones to leave Kabul and the air base was not not abandoned it was handed off to Afghan security officials as per the Pentagon after a tour and after destroying ammo that was to be left behind https://www.npr.org/2021/07/06/1013...ld-at-night-without-telling-the-new-commander

I do agree the air base should have been evacuated last but no one believed the Taliban would take over with as little resistance as the Afghan forces put up.

Funny, Nobody remembers any problems with Trumps evacuations.
He evacuated 3 fully staffed US bases and 13,000 troops without Taliban or ISIS interference.
Biden evacuated the last US airbase July 6 without Taliban or ISIS interference
Had he evacuated the last 2500 troops and the SIVs at the same time he evacuated the airbase we wouldn't be in this fix.

That is what I had read. I could head the fauxrage from the far right had we destroyed equipment that we had given to the Afghans. That would be the new excuse as why the Taliban took over so quickly.

I just wish people could take down the extreme partisanship just a bit to allow facts and truth to come through.

Too much to ask I guess…

This is very concerning to me. Do you have theories at all on why that was so mishandled? It just doesn't make sense. They knew and we knew that we wouldn't be there forever. Why leave out the most important part?

Keep asking anyway. We're all Americans and we're going to have to find a way to meet in the middle or it impacts ALL of us. I'm not partisan either and I'm not letting anybody take down my country over some nonsense. I don't care who you (collective) voted for or who you (collective) hate. Get over it.

That's not what America stands for. We are the UNITED States of America. We better start acting like it.

63 troops lost their lives in Afghanistan under the trump administration. That not a single one of you was outraged like you are here about a suicide bomber is disgusting. I wish zero had passed in the final days but I am glad Biden followed through with his pledge even though it was disastrously planned.

Part of it was due to apathy. The will to be there was gone both militarily and from public support. The deal signed with only the Taliban bypassing the Afghan government was another big F up and set something in motion that couldn’t be stopped. They understandably felt betrayed.

The big issue was no one knew the Afghan military and government would crumble in a matter of days seeing how well they were armed and trained.

The Middle East is not an industrialized nation and treating it like it is was a failure on everyone’s part.

I'm referring to the equipment and vehicles left by our military not the equipment given the the Afghan military

    not all of it
the US left millions of dollars worth of equipment at Bagram Airfield
